*** Official Ryzen Owners Thread ***

Doesn't really make sense to upgrade from a 7600K/7700K though, probably won't make much sense to upgrade from Zen to Zen+ either, but I guess time will tell.

Though thinking about it, I might drop my current dud 1700 and get a Zen+ chip if they improve the IMC so getting higher RAM speeds isn't such a hassle.

True. 7700K is fine and still better than Ryzen in nearly all games. 7600K was just a bad buy alongside the 1600/1600X.

However, there are people that like to change things every year if they can do it cheaply. If Zen+ can get to the low 4ghz and have a more refined IMC it makes it a decent performance boost as well.

Whilst the 8400/8600K/8700K are the better chips now that is a large outlay for anyone that already bought a system in the half year before their release. If Ice Lake and Zen 2 come out in 2018Q4/2019Q1 then again the AM4 platform looks better now for anyone upgrading once a year.

I don't think value conscious people will change parts that often though, Zen+ would need to be a fairly substantial upgrade to attract those people.
Zen 2 will probably attract more of the first gen Zen adopters.

I considered Ryzen a... bit too close to what I've got for gaming to be worth it (still an amazing chip). A small increase in IPC/clock and more cores was needed. Zen+/Pinnacle is likely where I jump on board.

The 1600 seems to be getting a fairly big price drop on a few websites, I’ve just seen one at £136.
I had re ordered an Xbox one x but really tempted to cancel it and build a ryzen

Price is plummeting for these today. Seen an amazing price on a 1800x that has tempted me but i still think i should wait till next year (icelake/Zen +/2) to upgrade.

All of them are, 1800x and 1700 just had a big £80 to £50 price drop. Good time to be in CPU world for Intel and AMD. Just a shame about the DDR4 prices, now that's a big turn off.

Worry not did you see how many factories China build to produce memory? They have been cut off by USA so they decided to built their own through a massive investment.

I’d do it, the 4K experience on those is already looking a bit ropey. You can basically pick between upscale 1080p at 60hz or 4K at 30hz with lots of missing detail compared to the PC versions with most titles.

but then the PC would be at least twice as expensive to run 4k reasonably well.

Really good price cuts if these are the new prices. With current pricing they're more attractive than Coffee Lake offerings, R5 1600 for £136 is a an easy buy.

Ok my luck with Ryzen is either really bad or I am just unlucky.

Went to switch on my my system this morning and it refuses to post. This is exactly the problem I had with my original Ryzen build. :(

I have tried all of the normal things like removing battery, trying RAM in different slots, minimum components to pass post etc with no luck. All that happens is the error code LED just cycles constantly (doesn't stop on anything to aid troubleshooting).

Up until this point (well a week or so ago as I haven't used the system in a while) it was working fine.

Does anyone have any advice before I start a RMA process? (Please note - I cannot access the bios at all right now)
