Cooling perhaps isn't the best - I think there is one fan in the front but it's covered by a "door" (my case is the Antec P100) and then one to the rear!

My thermal paste application was a bit questionable because the cooler backplate was loose and so I had to hold it on with my left hand while trying to line up the cooler with my right!

It should be fine as long as you used enough thermal paste.

It's been shown to be a myth now that how you apply thermal paste matters. The reality is that as long as there is enough it will spread and cover the IHS. The only bad outcome of using too much is that it might seep out over the edge, which again isn't really a problem (unless you've emptied a whole 20g tube or something).

Had an old Arctic Cooler Freezer 13 connected to an LGA775 board that is gathering dust. Found some mounts for AM4 and now running 10 Celcius Cooler. It just fits my Carbide 240 though.
While removing the stock cooler, I undid the 4 screws, removed the back plate and gently twisted the cooler a little, and pulled. To my amazement, the CPU also came out. Everything is working fine, but I am sure this is not supposed to happen

Gave in and ordered the AM4 bracket for my 2700x, had enough of the jet engine that is the stock cooler! It sure does look pretty but I bought a load of Corsair ML140's to try and keep the machine as silent as possible but having the CPU cooler spaz out every 5 seconds as it jumps up and down is making them a waste of money! :(

That and it's topping out at 84 degrees when in Prime95/5-6 hours of PUBG which i'm led to believe is normal as its OC'ing itself, but would like to bring it down a bit.

Could somebody do me a big big favour please? Send me a screenshot of an AM4 MB or AM4 CPU purchase please? Personal details removed/blurred of course.

My pc is currently dead and can't use it at all. Its a suspected PSU fault but its an ageing 2500K system so I'm going to take the opportunity of upgrading to Ryzen whilst replacing PSU, I'll probably wait for 3000 series CPU no doubt.

Unfortunately my CPU cooler doesn't have an AM4 bracket (Antec H1200) but I can request one from Antec if I send a screenshot proof of an AM4 order and my cooler. Obviously I can supply the cooler screenshot but I don't yet have the AM4 components and I'd like to order the bracket ASAP as its sent from the Netherlands.

That's nice of them. Corsair wanted £20 for the AM bracket I lost

I have ordered:

After resetting the BIOS back to optimised defaults I have so far not had any lockups during bench testing or BFV crashes when playing for 3+ hrs.

I am however running the 3200mhz RAM at 2133mhz.

I opened a dialogue with OCUK support.

Response was:

Hi there,

Sorry to hear that you have have these issues.

We have sold many of these systems with the 600w power supply without any issues so it is unlikely that this would be the case. The CPU temps are also within tolerance.

Could you try removing one of the RAM sticks and testing them one at a time and see if the issue occurs with each one?

If the issues still cant be pinpointed then we will need to arrange a collection and take a look at that here onsite.

This prompted me to try the BIOS reset again and so far so good.

I need to go back to them and ask about the memory speed being too low.

I've recently built a ryzen 2600 on an msi b450 tomahawk motherboard and bought a 16gb kit of the team group vulcan 3000mhz. It wouldn't run dual channel so I RMA'ed it for a refund. What would you guys recommend as a good memory kit for this motherboard? Is Samsung memory preferred or does it not matter?

I have the MSI Mortar board B450m and have 2 sticks of this in Corsair CMK8GX4M1D3000C16. Running at 2993Mhz (they defaulted to 2400Mhz on boot) and have had no issues.

Have they confirmed the memory is faulty? It should have run at 2933mhz, dual channel fine.

Unfortunately you have missed the sale on B-Die memory.

That seems like cheapest available B-Die currently.

Pretty much exactly what I did (although I went for the Gigabyte B450 motherboard) and my Vulcan RAM was faulty also so I swapped it out for the Team Group Dark Pro 8Pack Edition and so far its working like a charm!

I've set the XMP profile in the BIOS and it's running nicely at 3200MHz!

Christ, the stock 2700X cooler is loud. Mine goes into complete jet engine mode when doing any kind of gaming. I didn't want to spend on a replacement cooler as I am planning on water cooling with a custom loop, but I just couldn't take it any more and ended up ordering a Noctua so that my hearing has a chance to recover.

My case cooling isn't the best (and nor is my thermal paste application for that matter) so I'm looking for an aftermarket cooler for my 2600 - I couldn't justify a Noctua so am leaning towards the Cooler Master 212 - anyone got any experience of this cooler on the Ryzen chips? (Or have any other recommendations?)

Thanks for the suggestion - I did see that one and it gets some great reviews but an installation video I saw on Youtube showed that you have to install it while the motherboard is vertical because of the screws being tightened from underneath?!?

My thermal paste application is average at best - I dread to think what it would end up like if I had to hold the board vertically while doing it!

@StevieP - yes, you screw it from underneath. What's maximum height cooler will you be able to fit into your case? Have a look at the CR-M9A and M9A Plus, for single fan/dual fan respectively - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cryorig-m9a-single-tower-heatsink-for-amd-hs-00b-cy.html and https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cryorig-m9-plus-cpu-heatsink-with-2-x-120mm-fans-hs-011-cy.html

My case is the Antec P100 and so I'm believe I'm good up to 170mm in terms of cooler height! Do the M9A and M9A Plus models have the same installation process as the H7? (ie. screws in from the underside)

I've heard a lot of good things about this memory, but bit expensive for me. I have ordered a 16gb kit of corsair vengeance 3200mhz that is on the motherboards qvl. Hopefully this works ok.

Nope, they screw in from the top. You have some bars that screw into the existing AMD back plate and then the cooler screws into each of those bars, on the topside of the motherboard - so more like the Noctua retention system.

Thanks for the advice - I'll take a look at a few reviews over the weekend and decide what I'm going to go with! (I might even be brave and give the H7 a go!)
