** Official ** Season 2010/2011 Pre-Season thread

Arsenal for my (crap) lot in a bit. I wonder if we can actually threaten to score in this match. Not banking on it, that's for sure.

Nasri Chamakh and Arshavin will all be attacking against the pensioners, i can see us winning this match pretty easily.

2-1

Here's the official Castrol speedmerchant list for the premiership (based on 2007-9 data I think):

WALCOTT 22.72 mph
CAMPBELL 22.50 mph
DROGBA 22.27 mph
TORRES 22.27 mph
ANELKA 22.05 mph
FABREGAS 22.05 mph
A COLE 22.05 mph
CLICHY 21.82 mph
ROONEY 21.82 mph
GERRARD 21.60 mph
ROBINHO 21.60 mph

Yes, that's Sol Campbell, not Frazer :)
The likes of Lennon and Agbonlahor simply couldn't live with him in a footrace, try harder boys.

That may be top speed, but aspects like the length of time they could keep that speed, acceleration ,etc, Lennon and Agbonlahor would rip Campbell a new one. And these boys would be running while keeping the ball under control, something you'll never see a defender do. I say they should have an annual premier league race for charity, and have them all racing each other. :D

The probable formation in Italian newspapers this morning was:

Abbiati; Antonini, Nesta, Yepes, Papastathopoulos; Gattuso, Seedorf, Flamini; Abate, Borriello, Pato. If true that's 33; 27, 34, 34, 22; 32, 34, 26; 23, 28, 20.

Not pensioners until we stick any from Jankulovski/Oddo/Zambrotta/Kaladze/Ambrosini/Pirlo/Inzaghi at the expense of youngsters.

Nice to know you think we'll score...still can't see it for the life of me if we play anything like we did against Varese...or as predictably as we've done in 90% of our games for the last 12 months.

Same old story at the back for us. Papastathopoulos is a central defender we'll use at right-back and Antonini is our only half decent left-back but in some games he'll struggle and we've nobody of equal quality to replace him with.

As we can't even give Oddo, Zambrotta, Jankulovski and Kaladze away, we've extended the contracts of the first two (yeah because that makes sense) and Allegri has 'chosen' to keep the other two.

We might be two weeks further behind in pre-season but I fail to see how our usual problems will go away without getting rid of the dross and signing real replacements.

Decent game so far, Koscielny looks good and has dealt with almost everything that's come his way, Fabianski hasn't made a mistake yet but looks a little bit shaky and it was nice to hear the crowd getting behind him, especially when he came out to stop Borriello. Chamakh has looked great with some excellent touches and a nice finish considering the pressure he was under from the left back and the goalkeeper. Wilshere and Frimpong haven't impressed me very much so far and the former has given it away a few times and seems to be dwelling on the ball a lot.

Nasri has looked quite sharp with a lot of good play coming through him, Rosicky has been a little bit sloppy although that was a great bending cross by him just now that nobody managed to get on the end of. Brilliant play by Arshavin to put Chamakh through for the goal, let's hope we have a good second half. :)

We scored

If only Seedorf took our set pieces more often. Pirlo would've sent that one into the stands.
