** Official ** Season 2010/2011 Pre-Season thread

Start strong, finish uncertainly.

Story of our matches
Story of our season

Frimpong is not ready for the 1st team
Wilshere is ready but needs to work on controlling his aggression and timing his tackles, he tried to do a little too much
Koscielny looks good for the season, he made a bad tackle that lead to a goal but he's performances have been solid
Chamakh looks like a great addition, he was a bit quiet today but he looks promising this season
Walcott is just terrible. He accidentally set up the first goal and missed about 3 chances to assist. He needs to be more decisive and pick the right pass.
Gibbs looks better than last season but still has some time to go, he attacks a lot which sometimes leaves our flank open and his positioning is not the best.

"we have quality goalkeepers" - Arsène Wenger

Not exactly what I want to hear from him, we need an established #1.

Boris 1-0 Liverpool

Dangerous pass by Cavalier but Ayala lost concentration for the second game running and gifted the Boris striker a free shot and goal with a poor first touch.
It was shocking play by Ayala.

The atmosphere in the stadium was great up until that goal, it just went really flat afterwards.
We were awful, quite possibly one of the worst games of football ever.
Neither team created anything for the next 82 minutes. Rubbish.

Shame really, but it's only a friendly and I hope that it's not indicative of our league campaign.

It wasn't as bad as it looked. The pass from Cavalieri was shocking and the only thing Ayala could have done was kick it straight out for a corner. He shouldn't have taken a touch (and his touch was poor too) but he should have been given a call. It's a typical mistake from a young defender, but he wasn't hepled in anyway by Cavalieri.

As for your concerns about our performance; it was the first game back for all the senior players that started the game, what were you expecting?

Just checked on the chelsea page on BBC and i was quite shocked:
unday, 1 August 2010 | Friendly Match
Eintracht Frankfurt 2 - 1 Chelsea
Thursday, 29 July 2010 | Friendly Match

Friday, 23 July 2010 | Friendly Match

Not a great pre season :/

It was a Chelsea 11 ie their reserves

Still lol at all the other defeats though, bet they beat us next week though :(

To be fair, he played a lot better than yesterday. What matters at the end of the day is that they scored 3 and he assisted 2.

What I'm more concerned about is the 2 sloppy goals we let in right at the death. That cannot happen in the League.

No, Theo was appauling yesterday and terrible today.

Running a bit on the wing, isn't good, his goal was when everyone worked the ball down the left wing, he was left unmarked a fantastic dummy to let the ball run to another dummy and he managed to score, big whup, he was terrible for every other second he was on the pitch.

Was so glad someone said he accidentally set up a goal, he got the ball in miles of space and for the, I dunno, 5th time since start of the second half simply jogged directly into someone, got lucky the ball came back off the defender and tapped it to Nasri. So so many chances in the first half if he had half a brain or a good touch he would have been passed in behind, but almost every time the pass gets trapped under his feet, gets away from him, touch takes it into a defender, he's just crap.

His crossing in both games was abysmal, he gets the ball, runs 15 yards, doesn't look up and blasts it, none went near an Arsenal player, when he passed it into the box he had, about 4 occasions to pick out 2-3 players unmarked and scred each and every chance, he's unbelievably bad.

Wilshire's agression isn't an issue, people get yellow cards, who cares, the penalty was laughable, ok he pulled him down a bit as he went down but it was more obstruction against him, no other ref would ever give that.

Kos has made one of those lunging desparate tackles in both games this weekend and both were missed and should have led to goals against us. Djourou is out of place, Frimpong didn't look even close to as good as he did in his pre this weekend games, Song mark two, out of position, getting drawn to the ball, missing the runs, not checking behind him, some of his passing was agressive and quick getting forward, a few too many times he tried a thread the needle type pass and lost it.

Sagna got a nice goal but otherwise was his usual can't cross without it being blocked self. Eboue looked like he picked up a knock/tweaked a muscle or something, hopefully not a proper injury.

Wilshire, Chamakh, Nasri, Vela, Clichy, Vermaelen and Rosicky looked awesome, great movement, great linking up, all inteligent passers able to both create attacks and read other players intentions.

Theo just doesn't gel in the team in any way at all, he can't pass, cross, read other players intentions, defend, position himself, and he had a lot of chances on goal, lots of attempted chips and long shots and none were close to good. WE have soo soo many better options than Theo, and while he's constantly starting games when fit he seems convinced he's world class. He needs to be sent out on loan, or dropped into the reserves till he puts some effort in.

Have to give it up for Almunia today aswell he was superb, we could very easily have lost that without some great saves he made.
