Does anyone know if there's a way to get a more granular volume scale at the lower end?

The first notch is way too loud for me a lot of the time when I just want some background music or radio.

I've got a Playbar and 2 x Play 1's in a pretty small room and it's so frustrating not being able to turn the volume down lower.

Is that the same when you just use the Play 1's? Mine take a few bumps up before they're OK so maybe it's just a soundbar thing, which may be a work around if you just want background music. Set the 1's up as a group and see?

Ah, thats actually a good idea!

Problem is, I don't think it's possible to split off speakers from an existing 'Room' and make a new 'Sub-Room' and have them both exist at the same time.

I'd have to delete my current room, set up a new one with just the Playbar and Sub, then another room with both Play 1s, or maybe even two rooms with a single Play 1 each, and then combine them all when I want the full effect. But I'm not sure if surround sound would work properly if I do that.

What a faff, it seems some other people have requested the same kind of profiling where you can split of speakers from an existing room, but it's not possible.

Will have a play and experiment when I have time.

For the Playbar + Sub + Play 1s, presumably you have the play 1s set as the surround rears....in the advanced audio settings you can turn down the volume of the Play 1s for music, so that you only have the Playbar playing.

If that's still too much you'll have to mess around ungroup/regrouping afaik.

Or just have a guest wifi network? Agreed it's annoying when people can play with the playlists etc. One of the reasons I think I'll set up a guest network.
I thought about that but I didn't want 50 people hammering me wifi....only get 8mbit here in the middle of nowhere!

What difference would it make if they're on your own or the guest network? You don't have to have guest open, it can be password protected.

Made the mistake of popping into a Sonos stockist earlier today and really liking the Playbar. However....can I just ask for someone to check my homework on how I'd set this up?

I've got 2 Play 1's already and so my thinking is that I'd have the Playbar in the front room so as to have music and a much better sounding TV (Samsung H6400) most of the time and for 'film night' grab the Play 1's from the other rooms for a surround sound experience. So....

1. Does this sound a reasonable idea?
2. For anything streamed direct on the TV (Netflix for example) the TV optical output will pass the required 5.1 signal?
3. For anyhing else (Sky/Apple TV etc) I would need to connect the optical output from the Sky/Apple TV directly to the Playbar if I wanted 5.1 (normally with just the playbar on it's own it will be fine in stereo?

As usual - any feedback/suggestions gratefully received :)

1) Moving speakers while great in theory is likely going to get boring quick and either a) you'll not bother or b) buy more :)

2) Only if your TV supports 5.1 over optical (you'll need to check)

3) To get 5.1 from other sources when their TV doesn't support 5.1 over optical most people buy an optical switch.

What do people think of the Sonos Play 1? I've been thinking of getting one. It would just be to play music from Tidal off my iphone in my bedroom at night.

Is the sound quality worth the price? I am in Canada so it would be well over $200 for me up here.

Thanks folks.

If you just want a single speaker there are probably better speakers out there, but for a multi-room setup Sonos is the awesome and the Play:1 is excellent.

I keep changing my mind between buying a Sonos play 3 or a Bose soundtouch 20 for the living room. With a view to buying either a few additional play 1's or soundtouch 10's for the kitchen and bedrooms at a later date.

Hello, wonder if you guys could advise me.

Moved into a new flat with coax cables wired into a central media cupboard which can enable me to use sonos connect amplifiers for a multi room system. I already have the sonos play bar in my living room but for the kitchen/bedroom/office I need to buy ceiling speakers that are compatible. The only dubiety I have is that the kitchen is large, with 12 foot high ceilings and the room is about 8 meters by 6, each room is wired for two speakers.

Obviously it's just for general listening to music and podcasts, doesn't have to sound perfect I'd just like it to sound decent. So i'm going to buy three sonos connect amplifiers and I'm not sure what speakers to get, either:

Dali PHANTOM E80
Canton 980
or perhaps even KEF CI200RR-THX although that'd be significant move expensive.

What do you guys reckon?

Thanks,

Simon

After deliberating between the bose soundtouch and sonos range, I've bit the bullet and gone with sonos. I've just come home from John Lewis with a play 3 and a play 1.

I've setup the play 3 in the living room and the play 1 in the bedroom. Everything was fully setup and working within 5 minutes and I'm very impressed with them :)
