Ok thanks

and I read the playbar doesn't have many inputs..
My samsung KS8000 seems to have like a "hub" which all the HDMI etc go into.. I presume optical will go from that to the playbar?

Will this stop it from outputting 5.1 etc? or will it only play stereo?

KS8000 does not pass 5.1 via optical (nor do most Samsung sets, yet another reason to avoid the brand). The TV would pass 2.0 would then be mixed to virtual 5.1 by Sonos - which will be pony. A way around it would be to buy a HDMI switch which will convert HDMI input to 5.1 optical output.

Oh damn, I better leave it then? shame really liked the look etc of it and meant to be decent even though it's costly.

Thanks Chris

Just get a switch, use HDMI out from the into a octava switch and then optical from the switch to the Playbar, this would give you 5.1

Play 5 down to £350 at Superfi. Just bagged myself one for a joint christmas/birthday present, been waiting for the price to drop for ages.

Won't be here in time though :(

So I got a Play 1 for Christmas yesterday. What a bit of kit :D

Have thoroughly enjoyed using it, so much that I'm looking to buy another. I'm guessing that they won't be discounted anywhere in the Boxing Day sales though?

On sale until 3rd january, Play 1 is down to £149 from £169

In the same boat - got given a play:1 for xmas and already want to buy another 2!

Only gripe is I have to have my SSID unhidden for it to work.

Zero point in hiding your SSID anyway.

So much this.

You're making your life, and that of your family and friends life harder for ZERO benefit to convenience or security.

If anything you make yourself a target by being "the over paranoid one" that stands out.

I even did a wee google to see if there was any benefits that I didn't know about, literally every article lists why it's a bad idea... Stop doing it. Enjoy your Sonos. Never look back.

So. There is one thing that annoys me about Sonos. Guests on your wifi network can control it.

This is fine until some of said guests get drunk and think it's funny to keep whacking up the volume on 21 speakers.

Once I realised I had severe words with said people to get it stopped.

A volume limit setting would be handy.

Fortunately Sonos uses a simple HTTP API so I think I'll make a little app to monitor the player volumes.

Or just have a guest wifi network? Agreed it's annoying when people can play with the playlists etc. One of the reasons I think I'll set up a guest network.
