*** Official SONOS Thread ***

Yeah, maybe uncompressed audio will come in the future on streaming platforms when broadband speeds are higher, or maybe the codecs on the compressed stuff are good enough to not notice any difference really and it isn't needed.

I watched RPO 4K BD on the Sonos ARC, my word.. if ever you need an ATMOS demo use this. Some of the netflix atmos stuff is so weak in comparison.

The height reflection stuff is really well done in the film. Going to set aside on evening for BR 2049

Watched Pacific Rim last night on Sky in uhd with atmos. Was very crisp and clean and a good test pretty much from start to finish.

So my arc arrived this afternoon then the fun began. Had to remove existing wall plugs fill them and the current hole, as the arc needs to be at least 4 inches below the TV (recommended). Did all that, created new hole for cables, turns out the power cable from playbar does work with the arc even though Sonos told me it doesn't, so just ran the hdmi cable as I cut the plug off my original one for in the wall action. Painted the wall mounted up new one and away we go.

Haven't really had a chance to properly test but confirmed I am getting the compressed Atmos from Netflix and sky. Quick first impressions the voices from programs are much much clearer. Ran the Atmos test I had on usb stick, sound does actually work all around me. Didn't tell the wife the difference and she was looking up at the ceiling in the rain part.

Deffo thumbs up from me on improvement from soundbar. Will report back once had more time to test.

I never thought the PlayBar looked 'dated' until I saw this / got the Arc myself. Massive upgrade isn't it?

Yeah pretty much the same, always thought the Playbar looked really smart. The Arc just fits a 55" tv perfect and really does look super smart if you mount it. The true test for me was the wife said it looks miles better and that she could hear a noticeable difference, as she usually doesn't comment on anything techy :p

Need to try find Gravity now with the Atmos track as I have heard really good things about it.

I ended up buying a Nvidia shield earlier today as needed to use a Xmas voucher that's been sitting there for ages :p Been watching loads of reviews and ended up seeing my mates one who has same TV as me (lgoled55bv7) and the AI up-scaling sold it for me. It is absolutely incredible how well it improves HD content.

Not entirely sure why but the sound quality is 10x better than it was watching apps directly off of the TV... I've tested netflix, amazon and disney+ and all sound much sharper, but also they are louder if I keep the volume the same and compare the same app on each device.

I wonder if the shield is negotiating a greater bandwidth compared to the TV app. Can't see any difference in picture quality so not too sure why or if it is the case, however the actual surround around me seems miles better too.

I've also managed to grab Gravity with the dolby atmos track, so going to kick that off shortly and see how it is.

Enjoy it mate. Deffo get trueplay tuned as makes a massive difference.

First 5 minutes of toy story 4 is also good for the rain effect of you want a nice demo to start with.

Reading the official Sono forum, there are many people complaining the ARC sounds like a tin can and that the playbar is a deeper warmer sound.

Sonos support says they will look into the EQ settings - so yeah if your ARC sounds like 10 pound Logitech tim cans, hope that Sonos can fix it with new firmware

Mine sounds fine, but clearly an issue somewhere, perhaps bad batch or software issue.

Cheers but I’m already using a 30% trade up on a Play 5 so it’s already £279.30, I’ve just had a very expensive month and penny pinching if I can.

We've got a couple of Amazon Echo speakers, that get used reasonably regularly. But I think they sound a bit to base heavy for me.

On holiday this year, the hotel we stayed in had a couple of Sonos speakers playing in the bar, and I have to say the sound was impressive for such a small unit.

Is there anything else I should consider, in the same vein? Any pit falls or quirks that the Sonos speakers may throw up. Or just anyone's options one way or the other.

I'll probably only use my current Amazon Prime subscription and the included free music. And maybe my own music if it's easy enough to stream to the Sonos speakers.

Thanks in advance.

If you have your own music on a computer connected to the same wifi network, then it will play it with no problems at all. This is what I did for the first few months I had my SONOS set-up. I did make the mistake of using a 6 month free Spotify premium voucher though and now I'm hooked on that (but if you buy it a year at a time, it's £99 for 12 months which isn't too bad). There are a few advantages - the voice control works more seamlessly, and of course you can access pretty much any piece of music.

Overall - and this really is their major selling point - SONOS stuff is just really easy to use and to set-up. I'm definitely very pleased with what I've got.
