S2 is rubbish (but so was S1).

s1 and s2 works fine for me

but I don't use the music player function, I just use the app to setup the speakers and then never touch it again

also I use the app on iPhone, I've heard the android version of the app is much worse than the iPhone version

Same here, I don’t use the app at all after setup. My usage is mainly Spotify and Airplay.

Looking online, there's a suggestion that the Sonos alarm is 'impatient'. If it isn't able to access the source you've pointed it at immediately, then it reverts to the chime straight away. So I wonder if it's possible that the issue is my router is going into some kind of sleep mode overnight, and isn't waking quickly enough for my Sonos liking?

A bit of experimentation shows that if I ask the alarm to play a pre-defined music list from Spotify, it works fine. It's only when I'm asking it to play randomly from my liked songs that it has an issue. I also wonder whether it going from occasionally failing to always failing is because I have added enough liked songs to pass the sweet spot where it just takes too long to build the playlist, so times out and uses chime instead.

I will try to speak to Sonos Customer Care about this. A search of their forums shows a topic from a couple of years ago where some people had this exact problem and it was closed with a CS person saying 'the issue should be fixed now'.

Anyone fortunate enough to have the Beam and Arc? I'm looking at getting the Beam for the bedroom and the Arc for the lounge. Bedroom has a 40" TV, the lounge is 55".

Got a Port plugged into a Onkyo in the lounge at the moment with a pair of Kef speakers and a centre speak I can't remember the name of. Thinking of getting an Arc for the TV, then removing the existing centre speaker and re-installing my Audiolab 8000A for audio with the Port connected to that.

Got two Beams and an Arc. Arc in living room with surrounds and subwoofer, one Beam in bedroom with surrounds and subwoofer and one Beam in conservatory with surrounds. Love them :D

How much do you using the arc for music, I’m expecting my audiolab and kef setup to be better for hifi still etc
I use the Arc with the surrounds set to full with the subwoofer for music a few times a week with Spotify. The set-up sounds good to me but I've never had a dedicated stereo music set-up. FYI my open plan living/dining room is approx. 7.4m x 3.5 and the Arc 5.1 set-up fills the room with sound. When I watch films I'll turn sound up to around 40-50% and I get "are you deaf" off the OH :D

I've been waiting for the Beam for about 3 weeks now at a retailer I'm going to use due to discount, their stock is stuck at customs. I could order from John Lewis today, but the couple of products I'm getting it's circa £30 off.

Pending what I think re the Beam, I then may consider the Arc for the lounge and the AV Amp gets ditched. I'd still have hifi there, but it'd be an Arcam setup, Kef speakers and the Port.

The Audiolab 8000A is currently plugged into the computer audio, so I'd have to source something else. CA USB DAC to Audiolab.

Getting so close to pulling the trigger on the Sub...

Just do it, you wont regret it. I was really happy with my Arc but I felt like it was just lacking that extra something. After about 5 minutes with the sub made me realise it's pretty much essential

edit:

Just wondering how Sonos works in multiple rooms? Thinking of grabbing a few of the IKEA speakers (1 for the kitchen and 2 for the bedroom to use with the Apple TV for TV audio) but wondering if you can use all the separate rooms to play the same audio? so if we wanted the same music throughout the house could we group all the rooms together?

That’s exactly how it works. We play music from the Beam and the SL’s in the living room then link it up with the Sonos One we’ve got in the kitchen.
