So will there be progression and unlocks etc in this. Sorry if its on the main page, but in work so limited websites!
Ranking, ribbon and medal system would be great, simular to what BF2 used to have. That rank system was outstanding. Needed like 5000 hours to unlock some gold badges! I would have spent my life playing that game just to unlock the stuff haha.
Excluding the cheaters, you know when you had a 1 - 4 star general in your team he'd be an absolute boss!
Please put something like this in! I need a reason to keep playing and working towards something haha.

There will be stats but you will only be able to see your own. Stats are pretty meaningless for this type of game and the majority of the community don't want stats and rightly so. No unlocks either. This is game is taking us back to the days when gaming was bloody good fun and not all about stat whoring! With stats you get people doing their own thing just to get their own new ribbon/medal which then screws over the rest of the team.
We are going to be fully supporting modding so I expect someone will create some stat page *thing* for you to cream over
Got my graphics and screen freeze sorted yesterday so gave it a good go, I must say I really enjoyed it. Played a few maps and seems a bit bias towards the american's at the moment what with scoped rifles and on one map we got pushed back to a spawn on a hill and pretty much all got raped trying to get out
I have to agree about the stats, i think it will kill some of the team work and bring on the rage!
I could only see a couple of servers with any real amount of people last night so I'm guessing some of you guys must have been on the same server, so whoever kept killing me with a RPG.......NOOOOOOOB!

BF2 did it well, VERY well. You cant say it has no place in this type of game imo. End of the day, in RL army medals and ranks are fundamental.
I'd like to have a reason to book half day say and sit there and progress/work towards a particular medal.... If done well they can be rewarding as anything. Plus, if you're going to have to have some form of squad leader etc then surely people will need to be able to look at his/her rank and know they are capable.
CS didn't have the rank system because it had an active competitive scence of low - high players.... this game wont be on that level, so you need to add another dimension to play, otherwise i'd bet you i'l eventually have no reason to do the same thing over and over.
/I say this as someone who's not yet played the game. I'm sure the game play is great judging by the feedback.
Further more, Arma 3…. KOTH, one of the biggest mods, yet basic as they come…. Made good by an achievement system. Its not just about stats “to cream over”… Completing missions/capturing the area/dropping players in AO/Revive or healing team mates increasing your rank and earns you money to buy more high powered vehicles. Wastelands, more kills you get more cash you get to spend. Dayz/overpoch, no rank system but a willy waving comp of who’s got the most supplies and biggest base.
Not asking for a childish BF3/BF4/COD system of perks, unlocks etc….. Just SOMETHING to work towards.
And lastly, taking us back to when gaming was good? Didn't all these dev's create PR from BF2? Which is exactly what i'm talking about... Forget the unlocks fair enough.... But legitimate hard to reach ranks/medals do give more reason to play the game.
Been there thanks.... and thew it out as rank, perk and unlock system was childish and overrated.
As said above, can hardly say it "ruins team play" when its a "thing" in the real army..... And you really think that by not having a rank sytem will stop people doing their own thing to achieve what they want HAHAHA. Players, random players will do what they want. In fact by not being rewarded for team work will infact do the complete opposite and eventually be *****.
Game will be good for a few months, then once you've done everything will prob get boring and mundane. Its aimed at the mature gamer, surely a mature rank based system would only add to the immersive-ness.... People played CS to improve on skill and improve in rankings with 4 other team mates, ranks etc weren't needed..... Squad will have 100 random people playing at any given time, after a while mark my words people will get bored!
Agree with you goon Bf2 was great at it takes ages to rank up which I loved not like all of the games today rank up in 10 mins Bf2 was more like a month

Exactly.... BIG difference between a mature rank system and modern rank system! They wont change it tho.
Like Insurgency, no rank system. Died quick... Tho Squad has a lot more to do so should have a slightly longer shelve life.
If there was a proper mature RL army rank progression i bet this game would be around for a very very long time!! Just people naturallly hear "rank system" and are put off by the whores of the market!

October Monthly Recap 2015
November has come.
It's that special time of the month again! This time we want to flesh each of the items out a little bit more than usual and give plenty of WIP shots and eye candy for our hungry hungry fans.
Here we go!
Systems
Steam Integration
We will be migrating onto Steam in the coming month, meaning that we will be able to put out much more regular builds and updates. We are currently on a Monthly update system because of the stress of distribution and the lack of an incremental updater. So once we are on Steam it will mean we can tap into Steam's automatic updater, release more regular content updates and take the stress of searching for updates off YOU as the player.
Vehicles
The groundwork for networked vehicle movement and player interaction has been laid out mainly over October, however as we had found the native Unreal support for vehicles lacking in a few major areas so we are writing our own code to give support for ideally all vehicles going into the future. Once the system is in place, we can allow our artists to literally bang out vehicles of all kinds, with vehicle positions, weapons and configurations.
Emplaced Weapons
As a bonus of the work being done on Vehicles, enter-able emplaced weapons are made possible and are being worked on in earnest. Currently we have an emplaced M2A1 50.cal whose art has been featured before in previous Monthly Updates, as well as mounts for smaller machine guns that are ready to be implemented.
Art
Russian Forces
As seen in the previous Monthly Recap, the Russian Armed Forces are well on their way into the main build of the game. We have made big strides with the texturing and are proud to present a preview that would more closely resemble the final product.
Militia Forces
We are also announcing the decision to have the Militia as the next faction to be given the player model treatment. The decision was made in light of the fact that the Militia having a lot of the same weapons as their Insurgent counterparts, but also they will be making their debut in the new Fools Road map, hopefully with a compliment of light armor vehicles to differentiate them from the Insurgents. At the moment the Militia are still in their early stages of modelling, but we expect by Early Access you will be able to see them in action.
Asymmetrical Armaments: IEDs
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) are player-placed, remote or victim detonated explosive devices designed to maim and kill anyone unfortunate enough to be within its blast radius. Often constructed from surplus munitions, they are easy to make and are the mainstay in any Insurgent sappers inventory.
Environment Art
A lot of ground has also been covered in the environment department, with new features like modular building components for an urban Afghan set, train statics, farming equipment and eastern european housing components all serving to make the experience on the ground feel authentic.
Mapping
Fools Road
The Project Reality classic map Fools Road returns not only with a fresh coat of paint but we dare say, an entirely new lease on life! Updated with current generation graphics and top of the line environment assets, this oldie never looked so good before.
Fools Road focuses on dense forest-style combat. Lateral roads hemmed in by forests force vehicles to largely stick to the asphalt giving infantry a distinct mobility advantage to traverse the map from diagonals and launch surprise attacks on unprotected vehicles.
Utilizing the original terrain and reimagining the battlefields littered throughout it we hope you guys are excited as we are for the return of a classic teamwork map.
Chora Green Zone
Wrapping itself around the trickling streams of the Kmaisen River the Chora valley lies approx 3 hours north of Kandahar along the Bamyan-Kandahar river. This is our take on classic Afghan Green Zone combat.
A warren of fields intersected by canals and overlaid with a maze of roads, Chora will keep the American heads and turrets on a swivel as they try to pacify the insurgent forces by destroying weapons caches or flushing out the endless number of enemy compounds.
This 4km x 4km map will be our next step in pushing the capabilities of the Unreal 4 Engine to give us vast but highly detailed battlefields.
Sumari Bala
Our next mapping venture takes us to the mountains near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border to a place called Sumari Bala. The terrain for this 2km x 2km map is taken from real world topography and the central village is based on satellite imagery of the actual Sumari Bala. This map is all about close-quarters infantry combat, tight spaces, long alleys, and everything you can expect from a dense Middle Eastern village.
The U.S. Army will have a forward operating base on the edge of town and will have to clear the village of insurgents, protect the local police station, and destroy enemy weapon caches. Gameplay will involve small and large compounds, marketplaces, narrow roads and alleys, rooftop shooting positions, irrigation canals, and more. The key to survival on this map will be security; ensuring you move as a squad and constantly watch exposed doorways and open windows.
Training Range
This simple training range will be available via the main menu to allow players to get acquainted with weapon systems, player movement and target acquisition at range. It features steel targets at various ranges that will produce an audible impact sound when hit, in addition to falling over to give the shooter a positive hit confirmation. Targets will also automatically reset. Our plans are to expand the Training Range further when we include more advanced features like emplaced weapons and vehicles.
We hope you've enjoyed this month's recap, and stay tuned to all our social media outlets as well as the front page for more news on Squad. A reminder to all that you can still Pre-Purchase the game and enter the Closed Alpha via the Pre-Purchase link here (and along the top navigation bar).
Offworld Out.
Phew! Oh and my last comment on stats. Project Reality has never used stats and it's still going strong after 10+ years...
I'm really glad I backed this now, I don't agree with kickstarters as I think the majority of the projects stink of quick cash and grab but you could sort of tell this one was for the right reasons.
