Okay... after being a Humbug for so long, I caved and bought my first ship. What have I done???

It should look nice on the new Pred X34. Got a joystick also.

If I like it, I'll buy a few more ships.

Any advice for a complete newbie?

Start with the hangar module if you haven't been in it before, movement of the character is pretty dire still but it's a good idea to have a look around, check your FPS and tweak as much as you can then try Free flight so you've an opportunity to get the basic controls nailed.

Then it's really up to you, I'd say racing, vanduul swarm were worth messing about in, I grew bored of the racing quick quickly but always enjoyed swarm :D even though I was never great at it!

Haha fair

Just a cheapo one. Personal transport as wasn't about to blow 100+ bux quite yet.

Exactly where I started. Mapping controls is near impossible but all good. I'll have another go tomorrow

Really don't like that front end, looks like a bus.

I love the doors on the Auroras, have since day one - Cockpit visibility is pretty awesome especially when head tracking was working (not sure if it is again yet).

Am I doing something wrong to only get about 20fps in the new stations/flight or is it just the way it is right now?

I get 70-90fls in the hanger & arena commander. Just wondering, love what they've done so far!

Server side issues Muska that they're working on fixing. Can't really be improved upon, although some are using custom user.cfg but I've not experienced much if any difference. At times my FPS can get as high as 50 FPS and as low as 5 FPS but tends to average around the 20 FPS mark too.

Having spent a couple of hours with the Aurora now i have to say i do like it.

Its not quick, turning is lazy.... its a brick, but i mean that affectionately.

The Omega and other more expensive ships turn and react faster but i find that's not always a good thing, tracking the target is easier the Aurora because you can't get so close, with the Omega i find myself getting sucked in to my target until i'm flying in its jet wash and everything becomes a blur of constant big direction changes and G-Force fade-outs.
The Aurora is a much gentler affair, it still handles well enough to keep the target in your crosshairs at a comfortable distance.

Its also tough, much tougher than the Omega, in The Omega if someone does mange to land a strafe on you its torn to shreds.

I was up against 6 pirates on my own in 2.1 with the Aurora and she had no problem taking a few hits so i could keep my targets in sight, where as in the Omega i had to break off to take evasive action because a good strafe landed would be game over, the Aurora just shrugs it off....

In 2.1 pirates don't just sit around like they do in 2, they move at speed, they come after you and they do land their shots if you let them, its more challenging, more fun.

The LN model also has a good amount of fire-power, still fixed wing and fixed gimbal so you still use ship turning to aim, but i'm getting used to that now.

Oh and yes, i too like the Doors. :)

Yet again i'm stuck with... two ships now that i want to keep, well... i might upgrade the LN to the LC for £7.60 later.

Then i might get another Basic ship and use that as an upgrade line, i'm looking to get to the point where it would cost me <£25 to get to the next ship, i don't know but i think that should take me to the $200 region of Ship class.

Is that the Ship that was a freebie loan on 2.0 PTU testing? looks like it.... if so thats a really nice ship, handles beautifully.

Before Beta; this sort of thing is my goal from gradual upgrading over 6 months.

Anyway. the only complaint i have about the Aurora is EVA'ing back in, its impossible, or i haven't managed it yet, i bounce off trying to climb in.

As for my Omega, i'm keeping it, i hope it will eventually become genuinely rare..... so i can show off.

Take guests round my hanger,

This is this ship, i use this one for this. and here i have this... but in Bay 5 i have a classic Mustang Omega, all original in mint condition. on a Lazy Susan :D
