******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I actually transferred mine onto a Mustang Beta (love my mustangs!) as I'm going to melt my Superhornet shortly, never gel'd with it despite trying and I'd rather use the credit for subs tbh.

Plenty of time to get ships in game and I doubt I'd be getting a SH anyway!

Struggling to see a need for me to get a Hull C tbh, got a Merchantman and not intending to spend my time hauling cargo - will see what the others in the org go for :)

Like the "A" at the moment, seems like quite a cool little ship.

I don't see the point if you have a merchantman tbh, you're going to need an escort for these especially C, D and E. Since I have a MM I've grabbed an A and B as they may be handy to have and are disposable if I see something I prefer lol

If you think you might be interested mate, create an account on the RSI site and back for $6 on a ship skin and you'll start accumulating the backer rewards. Then if you decide to back later on you've got some additional goodies already waiting.

You won't be able to take part in alpha/beta testing until you buy a game package but at least you're getting the bonus stuff when it comes out, normally around stretch goal time (nearly at the $80 million one now).

The full feature list so far can be found here.

Worst case scenario you have a $6 loss, although in reality you could almost certainly sell that account for a profit when the game comes if it's accumulated enough rewards. For example we got a bonus 10K starting cash about a year ago, not a lot but always nice. That's just one of quite a few backer rewards.

I really enjoy Arena commander tbh, takes a bit of practice but vanduul swarm is pretty damn cool, it's one of the reasons I find Elite: Dangerous combat so damn boring. Mutliplayer is still pretty iffy from my experience though but that's mostly down to me not using my 400K+ REC points to equip my ship better!

Mustangs are faster, more maneuverable but weaker than Auroras. The Delta variant is great fun though and I must admit I've got 3 Mustangs as I love how they look and handle. The Aurora however is far more of an all-rounder though.

Both will have a very hard time against dedicated combat ships like the Gladius, Hornet and 325 but then again this game isn't meant to be balanced. It's genuinely a bit of a toss up between them, I'd say go for the one you like the look of.

The only one I'd pick on the Aurora line personally would be the CL, it's just a cute little cargo ship and should be pretty versatile, however I do have a soft spot for the Auroras doors (they are ******* awesome) and it's glass coffin cockpit. There's plenty of vids online for both, you can't really go wrong with either though tbh.

Mistakes in funding are only made at higher levels as the ships can get very, very specialised.

Best thing is you can always melt the package for store credit later and buy the other package if you change your mind, all you need to do is wait 24 hours since buying it before you can melt.

If you back the project now you can't get alpha access on anything, you have to buy individual passes (like the arena commander pass). you can however still get full beta access and as that's standard on packages you can melt/rebuy at will as you're arena commander pass wouldn't be part of the ship package.

Alpha phases passes ran out around 10 months ago so only beta is now included. People without alpha passes will have to get individual ones (FPS, arena commander etc) if they want to take part in that alpha test phase - nothing preventing them from simply ignoring that particular module and waiting until it hits beta though.

Those have arena commander, not alpha access. alpha is all alpha phases, Arena commander only being one of those.

You can still buy arena commander passes and they're still included as standard in all ship packages (along with full beta access). So there's no issue melting/rebuying.

Looked into this a bit more this morning, the following packages all fall within what i want to start off spending.

Mind blown what the differences in all of them are !

AURORA MR AC STARTER (Arena Commander pass included )

MUSTANG ALPHA AC STARTER (Arena Commander pass included )

MUSTANG BETA

AURORA CL

AURORA ES

AURORA MR

AURORA MR PLUS

AURORA LN

300I

I take it only the first two have Arena Commander and the others all require a seperate purchase of that 'module '

Without AC what is there actually to do then ?

can you link the pages, you need to ensure it's a package you're buying, not single ships - in the description you want to see:

Squadron 42 Digital Download
Star Citizen Digital Download
Beta Access
X Month Insurance
Starting Money: (some amount) UEC
SelfLand Hangar

If you don't have all of those listed in the details you're buying a ship that won't give you the game, which would be pointless. Any of these packages will do, I'd suggest considering payingin Euros as it tends to work out a lot cheaper (you can change currency in the cart).

And yes if it doesn't state that it includes Arena Commander you'll need a pass for it if you want to play the dogfighting/multiplayer dogfight "simulation" It's quite good fun tbh, I've spent around 50 hours in it in total :) By playing in it you get REC points which you can use to get loaned equipment and ships to use in Arena commander too so if you're considering changing ship it's a nice way to try before you buy.

The ship specs page over here might help decide, it's all subject to change but you can directly compare ships: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/ship-specs

LN and 300i are fairly comparible tbh, the 300i is a lot more nimble though and is the more prestigeous of the two. Think Vauxhall versus Mercedes. Hopefully someone can confirm but the entire 300 series is getting remade as it was one of the first ships to hit the hangars but they didn't include the bunk functionality and it was meant to have a bed etc in it.

Personally out of those two I'd grab the 300i, much better ship all round and if you decide to upgrade later the 315P is a superb single seater exploration ship and the 325i is going to have quite a few nice weaponry touches. The Aurora could be upgraded to an LX later which has a jump drive (like the 315P) but IMHO isn't quite as good as the 315 as it's not aimed at exploration.

I don't think it will ever become good value for money, the Witcher 3 only has $30 million budget!!

Depends on what you want, I personally have never got into the Witcher series despite owning the first two games! There's nothing to stop you flogging your account/ships for a profit now and backing it later on if it seems like fun when it comes out.

I should have known better than to upset a cult. :p

That's a bit childish and adds nothing to the debate on here, can you at least put in a bit of effort rather than post and run? I do actually agree with what you posted but I also get the impression you know very little about Chris Roberts, it's likely the people he employs spend their time thinking up new ways of funding the project and tbh that's what they are employed to do. Sandi for example is VP of marketing, her entire job is about getting money in.

Cult? Nope - A cult doesn't constantly criticise it's leadership and that's one thing the Star Citizen community is incredibly good at, some simply supply more evidence and reasoning than others (typically the general chat lot like to shout instead of talk.)

A cult would more akin to what's going on with the PCMR on Reddit at the moment, their leader has "backstabbed" them so they're having a mutiny.

I don't expect Star Citizen and Sq 42 to be the best game ever, I expect it to be good and for the community to add to it (including the OCUK orgs), I'm not naive enough to expect them to meet even a majority of their promises especially when it comes to timescales and from my contacts in the SC community and from chatting to OCUKers in PAGAN and other orgs I don't think any of them are either.

Hopefully, with the D & E, they will make it worthwhile trading large volume, low value bulk goods and have a real dynamic economy. Not like in Elite where you only ever trade a handful of high value items between 2 or 3 station and never bother with other stuff. Sure, you take a risk and fill a large ship with highly expensive commodities but you would make yourself a massive target to pirates.

I'm hoping they learn from Elites mistakes with trading especially around risk. I'm also hoping that early days trading is pretty harsh and they open it up gradually to profit rather than starting it off at insane levels and dropping it down.
