******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Overall i'm impressed with Citcon.

Yeah its a shame we haven't seen SQ42, but the planetary tech was awesome, and showing off the tools they have is really encouraging. They can really make planets in a few days, so that should not be a problem.

Yes it took them a long time to convert the engine, and set up the pipelines, but since then the development picked up pace, and they are pushing out content faster and faster.

Have to agree there...

Here is my reaction.....

And the outtakes lol

I agree, the planetary demo was very impressive - the scale, level of detail and seamless transitions did get me properly hyped. And the speed of building, and the different environment of the second planet.

I can see huge potential for natural hazards in exploration with those dynamic weather effects and environmental conditions. So I don't know why people feel let down - sure I can understand disappointment about not seeing any SQ42 but the planet demo for me more than makes up for that.

I c am looking forward to them finishing SQ42 (which I'll be honest I don't particularly care much about) so they can pool all resources for the PU and getting the remaining ships finished.

My only criticism was the use of QD in atmosphere - but I guess either they might have a system that prevents that in the future or leave it in for crazy players to have a go at the "Adama manoeuvre" in their Javelins/Bengal. :D

This looks amazing, without me having to look through the entire thread, how far off completion is it? and does it already support VR?

A couple of years :( it does look like a game that development will drag on forever as they constantly find new things they want to add.
It's still good timing for an MMO. This game is far bigger in terms of features than any other game ever.
People are so used to single and multiplayer games which usually only take 1-2 years to make.

A couple of years sounds about right to me as well, though I'm a off-hands observer with SC mostly so bucket of salt in regard to what I say tbh :) . The interesting thing for me will be the state of Elite Dangerous at that time and how Star Citizen's gameplay actually all marries together as a whole. Having seen a couple of videos of ED 2.2's new station interiors I'm not even sure SC will have a graphical edge, only probably a marketing and accessibility one. However being easily able to control a character does not a good game make. When it comes down to it, famous last words, I'm waging both ED & SC will end up in about the same place with content-scope & graphics & the only difference will be the size of SC's marketing budget and the cost of making it.

It looks impressive at first. but then you get closer and it looks just what it all is, a low poly prop, it looks nothing like as good as SC, for a start space stations are not props, they are high fidelity user environment.

To me the look of this is very typical of MMO's, looks like something spectacular from a distance, get close up and it looks like the 3D equivalent of someone model world in the attic.

lol come on now, I know you're a fanboi but spare us the made-up marketing buzzwords :P

ED and SC are both fine looking games but have a different design aesthetic going on.

There is a fundamental difference between ED and SC. you can't even compare them because SC's Space Stations are not just props, you walk around inside them, land on them, they have a purpose, you use them.

So you need that fine detail at arms length, it not a choice or deliberate design, its the difference between making something that looks good at just 3,000 Metres to 20,000 metres vs 1 Metre to 20,000 Metres, there is a massive difference between those two requirements.

Its inherent to the differences between SC and ED. in SC i point at something random, go there and land on it, can you land in one those streets in that station? no. its just a prop, it doesn't need to be nor is anything like detailed close up.

I get that but there's nothing special about SC over ED. ED is a straight up spaceship sim about flying spaceships and it looks great. SC is a first person and spaceship sim so their LOD0 stuff is a lot more detailed.

They're all props and they all look great for the game they're designed for.

ED is a game that tries to cater to ever single person playing be by doing that you have split up instances all of which affect the online universe. Have a problem with someone attacking your faction at a cg, no problem they can log to solo and do it without any way of you doing anything about it other than doing the same. Instead of good security measures and development they chose the ****** system they have now. If you want to play solo or private it should not affect the wider universe. The route cause of all problems in ED starts from here, whether it's related to
Pvp or not.

Probably because its paper thin and boring as **** lol. That said it has its place in the gaming world and hasn't done too bad out of it.

Both completely different games with different ambitions, scale and backing.
