******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

very much for it but I don't agree with some of the tactics used by CIG over the years. this includes claiming lifetime insurance isn't a big deal then when the grey market is going mad over it suddenly LTI becomes a marketing ploy officially... it's more complicated than that but basically I think the marketing had been pretty sketchy at times. All of my org know how I feel about that side but I'm a fan of the game and Chris and Erin Roberts

For it absolutely, I was in it for £400+ but I instantly got a refund (£300, for some reason?) when they started selling land on non existent (real life) real estate. How can a new player, when it launches, compete when clans, and others own half the system that you spawn into? I want it to work. Unfortunately it has already shown that it will not.

Honestly they've sold a tiny amount of land, it's not even going to be a fraction of one of the several hundred planets. Consider that they will likely limit it to some core planets also so it's divided up in some fashion also.

The game balance isn't really an issue IMHO, it's more the fundraising and partnering that's annoyed me. LTI and partnerships with Intel for Optane drives.. I mean come on.

You can rent some Ships in game with in game earned currency now.

Auroras 'Various'
Drake Buccaneer
Drake Cutlass Black
MSIC Prospector
Tumbrel Cyclone
Drake Dragonfly 'Yellow and Black'
Anvil Hornet F7C

Its not persistent yet, tho once live will probably last until the next big patch, or maybe it will be persistent once live, i don't know.
Still, if you want another ship you can now earn it in game.

That the game will be broken on launch due to many spending £££ on ships and **** instead of completely wiping out everyones accounts so everyone starts fresh
lol, seriously? the entire KS campaign etc etc was based on buying ships etc and you want it all negated? probably because you're sitting off to the side and don't want to take part, therefore everyone else who's supporting the game through development and buying things should be penalised, right?

I'm not spending a grand on real money on a ******* ship . Come on !

They have an advantage at launch
so what? boo hoo. pay and you can too, otherwise stop whining or don't play at all. same thing happens any time you join a game where others have been playing since launch, i suppose you'd want all their progression wiped out too just so poor old you could have an even playing field after turning up late?

everyone who's been playing in the PTU etc etc has a massive advantage too, dogfighting experience and what not, guess we should ban all them from launch too until he gets a similar level of experience.

Indeed. You'd have to ban all public & semi-public beta testing to remove any advantage achievable which would probably have quite the negative impact on software quality during development. Nothing non-cosmetic in Star Citizen, afaik, is locked behind a micro-transaction so unless you plan to just play it on the day of launch the only thing that stops you getting what anyone else has is yourself.

Those without jobs and/or family commitments etc will have a time advantage post launch, shall we have a time quota to ensure everyone can only play 1 hour per day also? Just to KEEP IT FAIR?

Bloody nonsense.

A very fair point, one reason o never minded people being able to pay a few quid to unlock X car in an online game or a gun in battlefield. If I can play 20 hours a week but my friend can only play 3 them we will instantly have a huge difference in equipment / level. A few quid to those working and wanting to remain “competitive” isn’t a tall order to ask.

It’s certainly not a requirement to pay though.

Like life some are born into wealthy family’s. Does that give them an advantage in life? Yes sure but it doesn’t stop a more talented, less well of person from being better at something than them.

The same will be true in game, just because you bought a good ship, doesn’t by a long shot mean you are going to be a good player who can excellently command 15 players to maximum efficiency. You could get taken out by Dave in his jerry rigged cheap as chips mustang by himself should be out skill and manoeuvre you.

This stuff happens all the time on eve.

New player spends money to buy a battleship ie an navy apocalypse.

Skilled player destroys the battleship singlehanded Woth a Rifter by our skilling tje battleship owner.

Edit sorry for any spelling I’m on my phone at work.

Harry the annoying thing is that most people I know with big expensive real money ships don't even intend to fly them personally, they have them so they can be shared amongst org mates. There are also many cases where people have clubbed together to get a larger ship they can share.

I don't remember the same people screaming that I shouldn't have got my Cobra MK III for backing Elite Dangerous in Kickstarter, oddly enough within a month I was miles behind those who had time to exploit in-game market mechanics due to having the free time to do so whilst I was at work. Pirating, despite being in kickstarter as a profession quickly became damn near impossible unless you WERE a trader who worked up to an insane ship/loadout and had huge cash reserves first. Additionally the fact that I can still spawn a Cobra MK III whenever I wipe my character isn't an issue - because like start citizen it's the modifications to the ships which make it more powerful, the base ship itself isn't much of a threat to anyone who's play the game for a while now.

But there's nothing to win. Putting aside for a second that the game is unlikely to be released any time soon - and there's a strong argument that it might not make it all - this isn't a competitive game where you can 'win'. You might have more experience badly flying your over-priced jpeg spaceship which you paid real money for but that doesn't help you 'win' a game that isn't winnable.

What exactly is your point anyway? You seem to flip-flop from being SC's number 1 fan to then doing a 180 and berating it.
