*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I cant see this failing, but we have been so wrong before Warhammer, Conan and Star Trek have all failed hopefully this will be different. From the footage I have seen it is looking good.

Sadly anything is possible, they didn't think star wars galaxies could fail, til one simple decision destroyed it almost overnight. Anything can happen. All that can be done is to hope they get things right, not just at launch but also in all their decisions for the years afterwards

I'm a star wars but for some reason just can't see this being any good. They seem to be trying too hard to satisfy the single players with a great story and MMO players at the same time and I just haven't really been convinced by any element of it yet. Biggest problem I forsee is that 90% of players will be Jedi and unless Jedi can fill every role in game it will be unmanageable as everyone will be Jedi (I know I will :p) there will be a few who go different classes but can see everyman and their dog wanting to play Jedi though I suppose that would make pvp easy to balance "nerf Jedi!!! Oh wait i'm a Jedi... nerf them anyway *whine whine*"

Just my opinion though :) the only reason I haven't completely dismissed the game is with BioWare being involved

Can see why you'd have concerns about the number of players who follow the jedi/sith route, but having played in the initial beta I was so impressed with even the early stages of playing a bounty hunter I think a lot of people will experiment and subsequently enjoy the other classes. I know I will, even though I'm also a jedi fanboy :p

Much like yourself I have faith in BW to deliver so I am optimistic for this game, and having done an awful lot of reading up on it too I'm really looking forward to playing. But only time will tell I suppose!

I was thinking something similar but instead of Jedi with Bounty Hunter.

Everyone will want to be Boba Fett :)

Which kind of goes to prove the point that everyone is different and will want to play it differently.

It definitley plays well! I dont think there will be trouble with people being jedi's
I think the opposite, theres classes i hadnt considered at all which im contemplating now, like the Imp Agent and Soldier... IA handles very nicely...

Indeed, 14.99 would be too high. They will be looking to pull a few people away from WoW and some may be put off having to pay an extra £6 a month.

Aye, I'm expecting around the £10 mark, obviously they have a massive investment to start reaping back but I don't think they'd risk alienating people before they've even played the game, not with the success it needs to be.

We'll see, but I really wouldnt be surprised. I honestly wouldnt be surprised to see a price scheme of :

£14.99 /month
£35 /3 months
£65 /6 months

Wouldnt surprise me in the slightest.

At the end of the day, the game has so much hype, the company has so much hype that frankly they know full well that they could charge that much and regardless of how much people whine , a massive amount of them would still pay it, maybe begrudgingly, but still nevertheless.

I reckon it will be comparatively high, the star wars name+inflation+eu tax on top+hype. I think it will be around the £14.99 region myself.

Hopefully this won't be the case. Star Wars Galaxies did not have an inflated monthly fee because it carried the license.

Inflation hasn't affected the price of other MMORPG, in fact more are going Free-to-Play.

Hype is the same for all games, look at DC Universe.

Unless paid MMORPG raise prices across the board for tax or inflation reasons(which I doubt), I pretty certain Bioware aren't stupid enough to alienate themselves from potentially hundreds of thousands or more potential subscribers.
