*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

This actually sounds promising :

"While BioWare is not yet talking Warzone numbers, we are promised that it's not sitting idly by preparing the bare minimum while the competition soldiers on. Both PVP and PVE servers will certainly be available at launch and every server type will also feature purely PVP zones – again, details on these remain under lock and key"

If they're actually bothering to do whole zones dedicated to PvP for launch it might actually be half way decent.

Sounds promising. I did see a mention elsewhere along those lines that some contested areas players would be automatically flagged for pvp. The more I see of the thought processes Bioware have put into this game the more impressed I am. I expect this to be the most polished MMO we've seen at release, not prefect but I reckon it will be very good.

Hmm, there's a difference between 'polished' and 'complete' though, and they are still very, very quiet on the endgame.

Let's face it, Rift is very polished but it doesn't stop people racing through the content that's there and then quitting.

I've just been through too many mmo launches to be anything but extremely sceptical at this stage, especially for a developer's first attempt.

As I have warned before on this forum with MMO games, be wary of having high expectations :) , all too many MMOs are billed as godlike, greatest MMO ever candidates prior to release, the hype engines for them whipping into such an incredibly absurd frenzy that people are inevitably left disappointed that its ended up not being the greatest MMO ever.

I think thats actually by far and away THE most sensible approach, imo its far better to be very grounded, skeptical and suspicious about any MMO release, by any company, than it is to get massively carried away by a tide of near erotic proportions about one. Far better to keep the expectation bar low and be pleasantly surprised than have the expectation bar so high that no matter how high you stretch you are left disappointed that you cant grab it.

(unless of course its the original Origin team making a UO2, in which case no amount of erotic proportions is enough to convey the wonderfulness of the release :) )

Yeah I've always wondered why people do it so often, I've never thought another MMO could ever be so succesful on the scale of #1.

I really hope Bioware have got Mythic to help with the PvP part of this game, as although Mythic may not produce the best games around, they have experience with PvP in MMO's and should be able to make it very enjoyable.

Does anybody know if the OcUK SWTOR guild is still going ahead, as I haven't heard anything for quite a while...

yea becausew warhammer onlines PVP was so great...

guess you didnt play it though and see the massive class nerfs straight after launch when they realised how OP some classes were lol

Well okay there was problems with balancing, however capturing battlefield objectives and keeps was very entertaining and if Bioware introduce something like that for Open-world PvP I will bow at their feet.

Plus considering WAR has almost no PvE, surely the PvP must be decent to atleast have some sort of fanbase left...

Also from what I have seen SWTOR doesn't have the same clipping problems that WAR had, which is good as getting stuck on terrain that you should never be stuck on annoyed the **** out of everybody!

war doesnt have much of a fan base at all? didnt they just merge the eu/us servers together?

Sorry, WAR had a decent fanbase, the only reason it is in decline is because it has had almost all of its funding removed and been left to die.

Lots of people enjoyed the PvP WAR offered but with nothing new being offered and glaring mistakes being ignored by the Devs people moved on.

You appear to have missed the point of what I was trying to say, Mythic should design the open-world PvP objectives and scenarios etc. and then leave the balancing to Bioware, then we would get the best of both worlds, or are you so Anti-Mythic you can't let them go anywhere near this game...

Mythic are an enigma to me, they got so much absolutely brilliantly done with Daoc. Really was probably my favourite MMO for PvP, yet got so much wrong with WAR.

I cant help but wonder if its largely down to Matt Firor, if it is, its going to be interesting what he comes up with for his new MMO for Bethesda/Zenimax. Maybe it will be an Elder Scrolls or Fallout MMO designed by him which would be quite interesting.

war had a lot of subscribers at the start but nearly everyone had given up on the game within a few months because the endgame pvp was boring

Hmm, with the news that SW:ToR Downloads will only be available via Origin, does that also cover BF3 as well, because I daresay thousands of people are waiting for BF3 on Steam, which may not appear at all!
