*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Well I’m not sure it will be November? I can’t see them releasing their two biggest games so close to each other(Battlefield 3 Oct 28th). Also COD 6 (lost count) is a November release too. I’m sure they want a release date where there is nothing else distracting people’s attention away from Star Wars. Maybe we get to hear something at Comic Con this week.:confused:

I think they will, just before Christmas, everyone will get both, plus BF2 is only cheap at £30...and how much you reckon SWTOR will be? £30 or more? How much do other mmo's come out at these days?

£29.99 normally.

So £60 for two great games, cant go wrong, and anyone that cant afford it can just ask friends/girlfriends/parents to buy them as presents for Christmas.

Wasn't one single call of duty game £60 not so long ago lol

People spend £30 going to cinema and one of my friends spends over £100 on a night out on the town....compared to my £30! lol.

Might be an idea to actually play them both, before labelling them as great games :)

Usually tho you watch trailers, read reviews, read forums, and you know which games to buy, I cant remember ever buying a rubbish game before....theres not that many amazing games each year, you only need to buy like between 5-10 good games each year.

Like assasins creed brotherhood, dirt 3, crysis 2, bc2, shift 2, L4D2, mafia 2, deadspace 2....my point is I pretty much knew all these games were gona be good before I bought them because of watching trailers/reviews/forums etc.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to like BF3 and TOR.

EDIT: my top 3 games am waiting for is BF3, TOR and Deus Ex 3.

It's just disappointing they seem to be intent on doing it with the absolute minimum of effort on their part -no day/night cycle, no swimming, scootie-puff junior speeders, no wookies, bland classes, instancing instead of writing decent netcode.

Yeah it is strange they didnt put those things in, but saying that I never liked swimming in wow or fighting in water, just felt too slow moving around, prefer to be on land.

What do you mean by "scootie-puff junior speeders" you mean like low level and high level speeders so at level 20 you get a speeder at 60% speed and then at level 50 you get a speeder at 100% speed or something?

EDIT: Will there be a weather system in TOR?

Well whether its october, november or december, I think it will release this year. The decision will be made that its ready "enough" for release (as is EAs oft made decision) and it'll ship. The MMO userbase now is a very harsh bunch and they dont tolerate "ready enoughs" as much as they used to, so we will have to wait and see if EA/Biowares "ready enough" is considered ready enough by the MMO crowd or whether it gets bad word of mouth for releasing too early. Hopefully it will be deemed to be ready enough because we've all seen how rapidly bad word of mouth in the MMO playerbase can slaughter an MMO.

On the other hand, lots of people watched trailers of Age of Conan, read reviews and read forums of it and ended up discovering how awful it was after the first 20 levels :D

Lots of people watched trailers of WAR, read reviews and read forums and ended up discovering how awful it was once you reached the high levels :D

Lots of people watched trailers of STO, read reviews and read forums and ended up discovering that after the gloss and newness and fondness of the IP had worn off that it wasnt a very good MMO. :D

I prefer to go with what the poster said and wait to play it thoroughly before declaring it to be a great game (and that applies to any genre :) )

I absolutely LOVE fighting in water, I've always adored underwater zones in MMOs, I find the third axis presents all manner of tactics and strategies for PvP etc. One of the things I am loving about Guild Wars 2 is their underwater areas and combat.

Having said that, I'm not sure how well it would work in a Sci-Fi MMO, so I can kind of understand why it was left out.

Howcome they didnt do a public beta? Are they not going to have a public beta before release, and if not, why?

I imagine they will do a 3 week public beta or something right before launch, a stress test. At least I hope they do, because in my experiences every MMO which hasnt done something public involving large numbers has invariably not turned out well.
