*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

There was talk of a SWTOR guild being set up for the people of this forum, however I'm not sure if that is going to remain at talk or progress into something.

Me personally I'm looking for a bit more of a casual guild and most likely on the Republic side, so the complete opposite of your guild really :p

You guys have a good website and I hope you succeed, however it isn't my sort of style so I won't be joining you.

Yeh i heard that too thats 1 of the reasons why i registered to find out. I know the PCGAMER european guild is called "PC Mint Imperials" and www.thesgl.com community's is called "Hate" just on the look out for more uk/eu communitys.

thanks :)

They really need to put wookies in this game as a class choice...they've put a lot of good class/roles in the game already but am sure loads of star wars fans would love wookies, they'd look great aswell.

Instead, Bioware went for the "cyborg class" - that well known race from Star Wars

Some of the design choices in this game boggle the mind sometimes.

To be fair there was a kind-of cyborg in Empire

Really starting to dislike race choice.

You probable have one of the most interesting selection of races to chose in any ip.

What do we get mostly human with very little differences.

Check out the dev comments on this subject. The character models are like they are for practical reasons. When you take armour and animations in to consideration strange alien models are a huge overhead/cost. They may add some later if the game does well I suspect.

But if they put all the good races in now, what would they sell to us later in the expansions? ;)

It's a clever choice, concentrate on standard hit-boxed character models, get the framework & combat system down pat, then once they've patched a few times, release a wookie/twilek expansion in a year...

I'm getting tired of hearing that excuse

That's as bad as the 'we can't make speeders long' one. Again, SWG managed it years ago, why not SWTOR.

Doesn't make it any less true. After all they are in it to make money so why not make it as good as makes financial sense? The other obvious one is everyone is free to not play the game if they think it is poor or taking advantage of players. I for one will reserve judgement until I've played it ;)

I'll reserve judgement until about two months and a few objective reviews after release.

I've got no illusions that I'm entitled to a certain type of game, it's their cash they're investing in developing what they think will sell.

It's just disappointing they seem to be intent on doing it with the absolute minimum of effort on their part -no day/night cycle, no swimming, scootie-puff junior speeders, no wookies, bland classes, instancing instead of writing decent netcode.

But hey, if they make enough kick-ass cgi trailers, people will buy it anyway ;)

To be fair to Bioware they seem to have spent a lot of time on the story element and also on the metrics concerning player habits. The effort to this point seems to have gone on gameplay and the overall experience. I expect the nice to haves and enhancements to come later, like swimming ;)

I'll be very surprised if this doesn't feel well polished by release if lacking in a few areas. The instancing from what I've been reading seems minimal and I'm expecting most of the world to be open and players to be able to interact freely with one another.

Bland classes seems a bit harsh as the advanced classes effectively create 16 pretty distinct classes and there is a lot of detail unreleased on the skill trees. I'm sure it will be less sandbox that SWG but if it's done right it could be a fun game, I hope!

I'm joining up with a load of people I used to play SWG on EU Farstar so it will be very interesting as I think some of the opposing Rebel guilds will be joining us :)
