*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Just watched the Coruscant gameplay video from betacake and seriously those graphics looks sweet, well polished, and I like the atmosphere of that world, everything looks perfect to me. You know what it reminds me of aswell, it reminds me of how it looks in fifth element but I guess they also based it on those new star wars films aswell coz I think I remember seeing a city like that in those new films.

But I only watched new ones a couple of a times...all real star wars fans know those films arent proper star wars!!! the only star wars films that exist to me are the original three!!! :D

Its not so much based on the films, as a few thousand years before them.

How would you take that quote?

Hard to say as MMO devs seem to change how they define words to suit whatever purpose they want.

I am assuming that by "shards" he means "channels" or "instances" rather than UOs original meaning for "shards" ...ie... Tattooine 1, Tattooine 2, Tattooine 3. Like in Guild Wars 1 or Aion for example. So rather than simply everyone on one server being on Tattooine, some players are in Tattooine 1, others are in Tattooine 2 , others are in Tattooine 3 etc, multiple versions of a zone on one server.

If it is instancing, then that’s a good thing right?

So what’s the biggest news out of CC then?

I read that you can change how companions look now. Also read that the CE vendor within the game will only sell things for cosmetic looks and not affect class changes in terms of balance. I know they going to announce some PVP details.

Anything else?

Arghhh

This is my first time pre-ordering a game and judging by the official forums I have fallen into the same trap/misunderstanding as a lot of people. I expected the charge on my card to be for the £5 with the remaining to come out on release of the game. However my card appears to have been charged for the full amount :(

Ive read up a bit and it seems when its all processed I will end up with the £5 being taken out of my account with the remaining balance placed in hold. This is just as bad as charging the full amount as I am not able to spend that cash. Normally this wouldnt be a problem but im going on hols tomorrow and need all my monies

I thought it was that too.

I know at Game, I just paid a deposit got my code and when I want to pick my CE up, I will have to pay the remainder, I might just get lost on the way :D

Not sure its a good thing or a bad thing per se. I think its a very personal choice.

For example, I really dont like instancing at all. If there are 100 people around me, I like to see 100 people, not 50 people and the other 50 are in Zone Version B of my zone. If my mate logs in and stands next to the bank waiting for me, I like to run up and see him stood next to the bank, not arrive there and find that although I am stood next to him I cant see him because I am in Zone Version C and he is in Zone Version A.

Other people though will like instancing. :)

what I meant when I said "good thing" was they might not use it according to that quote, personally don’t like it

I just think it's a good thing from the point of view of at least with the initial rush in the first couple of days where everyone is in the starter zones that they either don't just limit the capacity such that large numbers of people can't actually log on, or if they don't limit capacity that the game performance isn't good enough, be it lag or not being able to click on things because of hundreds of other people trying to click on the same thing.

As Vuvu says, it's a good statement to hear because it seems to suggest the game won't be permanantly instanced, but they have the ability to do it as an option to alleviate overcrowding.

CaptainRAVE I have some more questions for you mate if you dont mind answering all of these :eek::

  1. How is the agro system in this game, does it work much the same as in other mmo's like wow, I guess thats a big question, maybe you know of some articles to explain the complex details of the agro system like in raids agro devided betweem multiple mobs etc?.

  2. Also if your levelling, say I'm level 10, you come along and your 3 levels above and you kill my mob after I've tagged it, do I still get xp but say like just 10xp as opposed to 100xp that I would have got it if you hadnt of come along and I'd killed it all by myself. And do you share any of that xp or does it only go to me because I've tagged it first?

  3. Also are the mobs in the game labbeled like in wow, gray/green/orange/red for difficulty?

  4. Are there elite mobs out in the world that you can solo yourself that are harder then normal mobs of similar level and you have to be really skilled to take them out, but you can still solo them if your good? - And they drop better loot then your average mob

  5. When you were levelling was there a lot of group quest?

  6. I think this might have been mentioned before in this thread and probably been asked 50x already but is there a group finder for flashpoints?

  7. Are the flashpoints 5 man and 10 man?

  8. Also is joining a party/instance/flashpoint just as easy as in wow in the sense that I'm level 23, I been questing for 2 hours, I'm starting to get bored...I want to queue up for an instance(flashpoint) I open the group finder window, it searches for 4 other people, and then it teleports me to the instance(flashpoint) and then once the instance is done it teleports me back to where I was questing?

  9. Are the flashpoints 5 man and 10 man?

  10. Also is the loot the same like white/grey/green/blue/epic/legendary etc?

  11. Once we reach max level 50? Do we have to get attuned or do anything special before our guild can begin raiding in the Operations/Raids? Like do special quest to find keys or get attunement with honor for a certain faction or something like that? Or do we just reach level 50, jump straight into a raid and let the good times roll?

  12. Does the game have Diminishing return in PVE and PVP?

  13. Do certain classes have class skills/talent points to reduce agro?

  14. Did you have an addons folder in your installation directory or see an addons button when you logged in the client?

  15. Are the auction houses linked for both factions or seperate?

  16. Can we craft new items and sell them to opposing faction and can we speak to the oposing faction in-game?

  17. Are there daily quest to do which are repeatable but only once a day at max level, so we can earn vast amounts of money each day?

  18. Do our items have durability and get damaged as we fight and die in PVE and PVP? And do we have repair bills?

  19. When you were levelling did you notice or see any armor sets in-game for each class type, weather it be from doing flashpoints or quest or grinding honor? Do you happen to get any set pieces yourself for your classes and if so did they seem good, look good, have good stats and good bonus attributes?

  20. I know we have speeders to get around but how much do they cost and what skills are needed? Also what other methods of transportation is there to get around, I think we saw on one of the videos a train of some sort, is there anything else to move around a planet...I'm presuming already from planet to planet we just use our own ships, unless theres other methods to get from planet to planet like teleportation...but then again, this isnt star trek lol.

Sorry for all the questions but just kinda bored of seeing people type "I pre-ordered mine from amazon for £30" or "I got the CE eddition for £130" for the last 5 pages of this thread....it's kinda gone boring...and I think these are valid questions and am sure other members on here will be just as interested as I am to know some of the answers to these questions.

Thanks in advance...and may the force be with you! lol :p

Apparently EA have been 'Pinging' Accounts, as in taking the full amount and then immediately refunding it in order to check there is sufficent funds to pay for it at the moment. This might be the reason

Well, just to play devils advocate, but Aion originally said it wouldnt be permanently instanced too ;)

As I say though, some will say its a good thing, others like myself wont. Lag and not being able to click things doesnt bother me. 100% non instanced stuff appeals to me the most in MMOs. Its what I "grew up" on and its what I will always prefer.
