*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

holy crap you're rayeme! small world..I've seen you in pvp warzones a lot.

Bax, Republic Smuggler :)

I know the name, was with you last night I think?

Aye, been PvP'ing a bit lately - Rayéme is my 2nd 50 and was mainly PvE focussed so like 0 champ gear thought I would do some PvP on my non-raid days - my main was Serenté who is a Sage Healer - she has full Champion gear and PvP Valor 50; i say was as I tend to prefer to DPS in raids now so don't use her as much.

:)

I spend a lot of time in PvP in between our raid days, hit valor 67 Sunday and pushing to get 70 before 1.2....a bit of friendly competition in my guild to see who gets the war hero title first, its certainly a lot easier now to gain valor ranks, getting to Battlemaster the old way took me ages!

Raid DPS is good fun, came from playing a main tank in LOTRO and switched to DPS for a change, enjoying it I must say.
Its a shame more people dont prefer ranged DPS in raids...its hard to find ranged DPS classes to recruit at the moment.

Agreed - always see people wanting ranged DPS in Gen Chat - that and the party buff were the reasons I went for Slinger as my 2nd 50, along with a healer I've got a good base to find a group.

What guild are you on; what is your raid progress?

Mine are Valor 50 (Sage) / 31 (Slinger) - not to worried about the BM grind with 1.2 changing things up.

I might buy the PvP Mount before it goes for good though - I know its Valor 60 or 65 to use, but can you still buy it without it?

I'm sort of annyoed with the 1.2 legacy thing allowing people to get other class buffs....smugglers are not the most popular choice (not really sure why) and I've heard people already say they'll level one up to the legacy point needed to then get the class buff on their main....

Divine Retribution
5/5 Karagga HM
4/5 EV HM (damn SOA!)

We've had a couple of problems with getting people to move fast enough on phase 2 SOA. Getting there now though, should down him this week.

There are two PvP mounts - one is valor 50 (from memory) and the other is 65. You cant buy them from the vendor unless you have the right valor rank.

Ah yea, seen a few of the Divine Retribution guys about.

SOA is a pain, some of it is luck (more so on Nightmare!)

We've done (Devotion)

5/5 KP - NMM
4/5 EV - NMM - SOA on Nightmare is a git, managed 4% as our best try.

Devotion are pretty good, but this is my 4th guild now as many die out or just run normals despite being geared for hard - was in Unitee / AoE / Exile also.

Devotion are raiding guild though so not on much other then to raid bar me who is on a lot more!

I was going to buy this and play for a month or so while waiting for Terra, but everyone is quitting now? Is it that bad? Or just nothing to do once you've reached level cap?

Is the leveling process still worth going through? I read that the story lines are quite good, but it sounds like an RPG with MMO bits bolted on to it.

You can definately play it that way - if you like KoToR you will love this.

As a game (genre undefined) - it's excellent, the story telling is great, the gameplay is fun... as an MMO it lacks a lot of features - but either way it is a worthwhile game to play for the experience.

So yes, the levelling process is definitely worth going through, stories range from ok'ish to very good. A lot of people are cancelling as end game is short, gear is relatively easy to get but this will is being addressed, for some to little to late.

Personally - I still love it, hitting the 700hour mark now and with no desire to stop.

Ive enjoyed the storylines for all 3 of the classes Ive played, they are done very well imo.

Logged in last night after an 8 week break and was shocked to see only 14 people on fleet (!) Niman server, rep side. only 6 people online in the immortals guild - was used to seeing 40+ late January in the guild, and 70-130 on fleet.

Whats happened? People waiting for the 1.2 patch?

I was annoyed to see some combat animations still not fixed (mortar volley :-( ), and still being unable to abandon certain missions that I have long since outlevelled ("Stay Frosty" and a couple of others).

SOA on HM is hard enough! I bet on NM its...well...a nightmare! TBH i think our problems are down to tactics and positioning on phase 2.

Normal modes are pointless once you get even halfway decent gear. We can clear EV NM in about 55mins and about the same on karagga. its just not a challenge. We run them to help casuals and new people get geared up and for a bit of fun

Luckily we came with a good core of players from previous MMO's and have had some really good people join us so we're nice and stable...just need a few more to fill out a 2nd raid team but recruitment is a nightmare at the moment (oh the joys of being a recruitment officer)

I really enjoyed the levelling process, class story lines were good and engaging. Planet progression was a nice pace and there are plenty of things to see and do.

End game is currently all about 2 Ops and hardmode flashpoints - though the flash points are very easy once geared up.

A lot of people have quit its true. For some I think the new shiny game part has worn off and its not the panacea they were looking for in an MMO. For me I'm loving it and the 1.2 changes are going to be good!

Aye - for the 2nd phase it's best to stack up with tank turning SOA away from RAID - then when the Balls Spawn those targeted run from the stack into their balls and return. Healers just spam the AoE Heals (works really well with 2xSage Healers).

Obviously downing Mind Traps when they appear and also not setting the next phase (30% HP) if someone is being chucked about.

Sometimes it is about luck, like not having your tank Mind Trapped, or being balled and then flung in the area = insta death!

Well if you ever need help with a healing Serenté is not guilded so happy to help out if i'm not raiding myself.

They need to bring in server merges to help as people are leaving due to low numbers; Frostclaw is still fairly good at over 100 - but even that is flatlining on non raid days.

I've pretty much quit now - can't raid at the hours that seem popular for Frostclaw and can't be bothered rerollong on a none EU server.

I like(d) the game but the social side of SWTOR is the worst I've ever seen - it's basically a single player game with a bit of pvp thrown in.

Having a play with Pathof Exiles and tera ATM but can't see either of them holding my interest either.

sounds like you have to play non eu hours?

social side is a bit odd, I've got to know quite a few people from the PvP scene but there isnt anything big going on Frostclaw socially.

My main hours tend to be 10 pm onwards at nights - and afternoons on Weekends (I work from home so often get on during the day as wellbut can never guarantee it).
I joined the none entity which was the OCUK guild on Frostclaw and a few others and unfortunately my hours never gelled with any of them.
I've done everything with my main you can do bar heroic /nightmare raids and frankly got sick of lfg for heroics (having no lfg system in a game so hyper instanced is just crazy)

I got my money's worth but despite the hype I didnt find the solo quests interesting enough to make me do the same set of quests again - I might revisist it in the future but not for a while.

Have a question please:

Ive always had slicing with my toons for some income, but ive just started a smuggler (level 11) and i have chosen:

Cybertech

Scavenging

Underworld Trading

Now, should i drop Underworld trading for slicing? or is underworld trading needed for higher level with cybertech? if so i would have to buy the underworld trading stuff from the GTN.

Ive given my toon 100k from another character but that wont last long, so i have a dilemma of chosing slicing for credits, or keeping underworld trading for material later on when using Cybertech?

To make any "blues" or "purples" you will need to run the UT missions - the other way is to buy them, which you could use the cash from slicing to do; but the cash was nerfed early on so it's probably not the best choice - you can level Cybertech or any skill without the mission skill it might just be more expensive

Having a case of the blah's with this game at the moment - I'm level 16 and I just cba to level right now.

I would fault the stagnant nature of the noob areas, bal morra is about as uninspiring as they come, it seemed forever to complete the dromund kaas quests and I just can't face sticking around this boring bal morra place doing the same thing all over again.

Graphically the game is a gopping turd.

Don't think I'll be resubbing at this rate, GW2 can't come quickly enough.

Thanks for the advice again :)

I will keep Underworld Trading then i think, im surprised how good smugglers are tbh, very good experience so far, i started some WZs at level 11 and i was nowhere near the bottom as i im when playing my jug level 50.

There were level 25s other classes and i wasnt getting owned at all in WZs, unlike my level 50 Jug which i struggle with, getting better though gradually
