Love it, do sick damage, can go down fairly easy if in poor cover / no healers; but for the most part with dodge and shield can do ok

If you are using the rage tree you aren't a tank, don't think like one. Rage (and focus) are pretty much one trick ponies built around aoe bombing and with fairly rubbish survivablity. I usually PvP as defense on my guardian, makes me a pain to kill usually but my own ability to solo someone is pretty non existant.
The few times i've tried dps on the guardian it's been fine until the enemy realises you are dps and starts zerging you.

I'm not new to the whole PvP scene, as i PvP'd avidly in SWG, but i've found it easier when my camera is zoomed out to a relatively far distance so i can see what's going on around me, and using LOS to my advantage which i've noticed a lot of people weren't doing in my warzone.

PvP takes a bit of time to get used to, its not the same as PvE and you'll need to get your head round it a bit :)

4-5 deaths per WZ isnt that bad :) its PvP you're going to get killed!

If you're lvl 50 and just starting out then you'll get owned for a while until you get your gear level up - you have no expertise and you'll be fighting people like me that have lots - for example I'll be taken 10% less damage from you and you'll be taking 10% more damage from me simply because I have PvP gear which you might not

(if you're not in the lvl 50 bracket then ignore that)

keep playing and you'll soon get the wz commendations and can buy the gear. It doesnt take long to get PvP gear now

Yeah i think the problem for me is ive reached level 50 last week and have played WZs for the very first time. Im in the process of trying to get better gear.

I have WZs commendations but when i go to look at PVP gear at the fleet all the gear there is not as good as my PVE gear i currently have?? , though i have spent a fortune upgrading all my PVE gear throughout the game and have always improved my PVE gear, my gear is getting better as my health etc.

Also thanks for McDaniel and robmol regarding the times for dailys.

You can trade the WZ commendations for mercenary commendations so you can buy the purple PvP bags (I forget the name, it's been a while since I've done much PvP - champion bags? someone else will clarify) You need 200 wz and 200 mercenary commendations for this.
 
Champion Bags are correct.

You get them from Daily PvP/Ilum quests and Weekly ones too.

They award 15x Centurion Comms and 7x Champion Comms - with a small chance of a token piece too (such as Champion Boots) - there are 4 Vendors per Class in the Combat Training Area of the fleet near PvP Terminal

PvP Armour Vendor
Centurion Armour Vendor
Champion Armour Vendor
Battlemaster Armour Vendor

PvP Armour are the Level 20/40 sets

Cent/Champ/Battle are the Level 50 Tiered (Battlemaster > Champ > Cent)

Use your Comms/Tokens to trade in for relevant gear, there will be a set per advance class - so Sage will opt for a mix of Force Master/Mystic gear and Shadows will opt for Stalker/Survivor gear.

Battlemaster Needs Valor 60 (a lot of PvP!) to get; until 1.2 anyway
 
only just noticed a lot of people on Frostclaw from OC :) same for me

The other thing to remember with PvP is what your job is? Its not all about damage and kills. There is little point getting top damage and still loosing the WZ, it doesnt get you a tick on the daily/weekly quest.

If you're a tank then you're about soaking up damage from the likes of me, guarding you're healers, staying alive longest to stop people capturing turrets/doors whilst people respawn etc etc etc
dont get focussed on dmg and kills - if you're a DPS class then sure, look to be top and work at it but a healer or tank probably has other goals.

Finally have fun with PvP. it can be very annoying at times. When it is, take a break and come back to it.

wz commendations can only be traded for merc. commendations at the PvP vendors (next to the pvp quest terminal) or inside voidstar and civil war WZ (until 1.2)

you cannot change wz commendation into a belsavis or daily commendation
 
I decided to cancel my sub after taking an extended break due to family illness and then realising that I just didn't feel the need to login again after it was all over.

I'll be keeping an eye on the thread, hwoever, as I can see myself coming back at some point for a blast :)
 
Next to the PvP Terminal on the fleet are 2 vendors - both sell Merc Comms - these are at a rate of 30 Warzone Comms for 10 Merc (3:1) - you can use these to buy bags 200 of each (800 WZ effectively)

Going to hit Level 50 tomorrow and it will be exactly 3 weeks since I bought a new copy of SWTOR and started on my Juggernaut. Going to be tanking Immortal spec. Exciting times ahead. Mind you I did have a week off work so I was able to level hardcore during that period lol.

Been using Jaesa since I got her but she's really starting to annoy the hell out of me now. Attacks targets other than my own and just randomly leaps into usually the furthest one, or taking ages to stop and switch to my target when I CTRL+1 ask her to. Caused me to die a few times on Corellia now because I like to nuke targets down quick one at a time, but she's just spreading our DPS meaning I'm taking more damage, like when fighting 2 Strong mobs. Going to gear up Vette using Market and finish the last 2 levels with her.

Guard is annoying me as well. Drops whenever I mount up so I have to keep reapplying it.
