Senderos joins Fulham

Good signing, shame he never made it. Odd he signed before the WC on his behalf, if he had a good WC he could have increased his wages.

Happy with that, we have four quality centre backs now. Like for like pretty much too, Hangeland is covered by Senderos, Hughes is covered by Baird. Good stuff. It's also the biggest indication that Hodgson is staying too, he wouldn't be commenting/making signings if he knew he were to go. I hope...

With Senderos off that leaves us with only Gallas, Campbell or dare I say it...silvestra to resign.

Wenger better have a good plan up his sleeves. Shame Senderos left, I just think he needs to play more and he will become very good.

Good signing for Fulham, wouldnt have minded if he stayed tbh

Proves not all players are money grabbing.

didnt he originate at barca? if it was really a place he dreams off, why did he leave to begin with?

that makes little sense to me,

A lot makes little sense to you tbh Nick, I would have thought you would have come to terms with that by now.

Hello. Got a lovely pair of Grey and Yellow Ciero's here, and White/Red/Blue Americana's

Every man and his dog has the grey and yellows, the Americana's are nice but not half as sweet as the SS version ;)

Could it signal us going after big Brede Hangeland?

I dont think we have won anything with Fabregas anyway, so we can only go up from here :p

Well that's a possibility but equally... :p

Have you never heard the saying "the one that got away"? You could say that is analogous to Fabregas and Barcelona - for both parties the other represents unfinished business. For Fabregas he apparently wants to prove himself at the club where he started and didn't get round to/was poached from before making it, for Barcelona they want back someone they invested into training and they've got a certain amount of affection for who is now one of the best midfielders in the World.

Maybe they just weren't the right pairing at the time but now it's a few years down the line the club and player could potentially make beautiful music together or something like that. I think that's enough with the dodgy metaphors anyway.

I'd be surprised. Fulham needed another centre back regardless, and replacing a £10m fee for a free is good business. I'd hazard a guess at Hangeland staying while Hogdson is still in charge. He's probably the next captain too. It'd cost a lot to get Hangeland now he's still got three years left on his contract.

So do I. A backhanded sweetener. ;)

What like dodgy 'Arry is/was famous for??;)...

Glad that Senderos has signed for Fulham...he wasnt the best for us but he was ok...sad to see him go as id rather have him than that utterly useless french muppet Silvestre:p

Hopefully Hodgson will get the best out of him, which Wenger couldnt do.

That would be good. That wouldnt be as good a deal for Fulham though if that was the case.

It'd mean quite a fair bit of money though. However I think letting Smalling go, probably indicates the fact that Hangeland has probably said he wants to stay. Hughes is the rock of the defence, either way!

Young ambitious players that played together for 4 years if I remember correctly.

Barca lost Pique as well at the same time because Barca were unwilling/stalling to offer them adult wages and a chance in the first team.

They kept hold of a few mind, in particular a chap called Lionel.

Nick is the resident expert on MU and their players so I would have thought he would have known about that

I thought Barca couldn't offer them a proper contract yet because they were too young?

That may well be true but there have also been suggestions that his opportunities would be more limited at Barcelona than at Arsenal so moving made sense from that point of view, I'm not sure that anyone would ever get to be World class if they're almost always behind 2-3 other players in the setup. It's rather difficult to get playing time in situations like that unless one of the others gets injured and there's no guarantees of that happening plus no player with aspirations to be World class is likely to be happy always sitting on the bench, waiting for an opportunity for a year is one thing, waiting indefinitely is quite another.

Well it worked out good for him and Barca. And hopefully we wont do too bad out of the deal in the end. The money would certainly help go towards buying a new defence, which is in effect what we need with CBs and a GK.

If we sold Fabregas and got two or three CBs and a worldclass GK I would be a happy man. A DM would be nice too but im not greedy :p

How has it worked out well for Barca?

They had him in their pocket and will now have to pay upwards of 30 million for him.

Aye, great deal that.

yea they let them go because they didnt theink they were of quality to offer those wages...obviously they got pique back pretty cheaply from us - and they saw that he had improved when he was loaned back to zaragoza. in 2 years he played 12 games for us...he was given a route back to a big club who must have said they would play him, wheras at united with vidic and ferdinand being such a tight pairing it was unlikely that he was going to get much action - despite his performances in spain. but that doesnt mean he dreamed of playing at barca when he was at united. otherwise he wouldnt have left if he had had the option of staying opn originally...

I didn't at any point say that Pique dreamed of playing for Barca again.

I said it was Fabregas' dream move.

Merida was a Barca boy but they didn't say a word about him when he left this summer. Barca are only doing this because of the player he became

If you are going to be sarcastic you better put in some rolleyes ;)

Not too many though or the thread will be closed :D

Because they got to keep their best players playing and won titles, whilst Fabregas was off learning his game playing at the highest level.

They now have the end product who is able to play at the highest level for a good ten years or more. £30m over ten years isnt too much to pay for a worldclass player

I think most big teams would be happy to pay £30m for someone of fabregas' class at his age.
