Yes it is.
Dont get me wrong, it doesnt mean everyone is now worth astronomical amounts of money, but the market has shifted quite significantly due to the fact there are now more teams with money to spend wanting to sign top players. Personally I would say Fabregas for £40m would be a bargain.
Firstly no, in the 90's Lazio spent 237MILLION in the space of a few years under Sven, they spent big money on big players. Real have been spending 40mil + on players for a DECADE.
Its not new, you're simply not remember, 3-4 teams buying a few 50mil players does NOT make everyone more expensive, it has happened for well over a decade and the prices aren't going to change this year because 3-4 more big money transfers will go through.
City have spent a large portion of what they will spend, they just spent £11million on a new CB, not £45million. If they get another £30mil striker it will be while selling one.
These numbers are not new and they most certainly do NOT make Milner worth more than he's worth, which is 10mil at best(though he'd probably go for more because people are stupid).
People seem to have not noticed that Chelsea arent' spending big anymore and are cutting big wage players rather than give them big wage increases and that will continue.
The best clubs in the world spend big, for a few seasons then calm down massively. Chelsea went from 200million a year to Anelka for a BUDGET 16mil, and Ivanovic who has turned out to be one of their best buys in years and best value buys. Sorry but if Chelsea spending 200million over a couple years pushes EVERYONES value up, why were Anelka and Ivanovic so cheap, how did Shay Given go for £5mil, when he's actually worth significantly more than that.
Rubbish, history has shown big spends come and go, players are worth what players are worth and massive stars are worth more in commercial rights and tournement winnings.
Whoever said tourny money isn't that big, is stupid. the CL is 25mil, and a run from top to bottom, all gates and winnings at every level is estimated to be worth close to 100mil, I can't remember what the league titles get in various countries, but its not nothing and also DRAMATICALLY increases what clubs can charge for shirt/stadium sponsorship and in stadium ad's.
Ronaldo is actually worth 80million, if they manage to win the title next season and they wouldn't have won it without him, thats 10million in the bank, if they go all the way to the CL final next year and couldn't do it without him, that might be 30-40million extra in the bank purely because of Ronaldo.
IN terms of sponsorship, media coverage, shirt sales he's worth way more than his transfer fee.
Its pretty simple, the only time transfers seem to go up insanely, is when bad managers overestimate how good a player is and massively overpay for them, like, Adebayor. He isn't a 10million pound striker thats increased in value to 30million as will everyone else who was worth 10million. He's a 10million pound player who the manager THINKS is as good as a 30million pound player, those are two very different things.
If Milner goes for 28mil, its not because he's worth that, or all 10million pound wingers are suddenly worth 20(+ 8mil for being english) its simply managers over estimating how good he is.
Source is a little dodgy but still nice to be linked with some good keepers:
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is preparing to make a big money move for Lyon keeper Hugo Lloris. The 23-year-old has been voted best keeper in France for the last two seasons.

Not heard of this guy though
Wenger is also monitoring Palermo goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu. The 23-year-old Italian is also being watched by Inter Milan but Arsenal have the advantage because they can offer him first team football.

Lloris is supposed to be very good, he was completely uninspiring yesterday in the France game, he fumbled the ball more than once in simple situations and really wasnt' good throughout. Infact his fumbles and dropping of the ball in simple situations rather emulated Almunia when he's having a bad game. I haven't seen much of him but Lloris looked entirely unimpressive for France, hopefully he'll show that he's much better in the next couple games.
