Although he seems to be like Carragher, new change - and likes Hodgson. Mascherano is the one I can see leaving to get some budget.

Are you implying that Masch is more likely to want to stay now that Hodgson has taken over but he's going to be sold to raise money?

If so then I don't think you could be more wrong; Masch is only still at Liverpool because of Benitez and had all but signed a new deal before Benitez left. Now with Masch only having 2 years left on his deal, and wanting to either join Benitez at Inter or go to Barca, we're in a position where we have little choice but to let him go.

As for Torres; although Benitez leaving wouldn't have helped, it's still very difficult for him to leave. He's still got 3 years on his deal (and I believe both parties have the option of extending that by a further year too) and we're going to demand massive money for him which possibly only City could afford. So unless he kicks up a fuss (which I can't see happening) it will be difficult for him to leave.

No, that was about Gerrard (staying). Mascherano I can see leaving, sorry my quote was a bit confusing.

Oh I get you. Gerrard's an odd one, I don't think he can leave now regardless of the manager, after what's gone on in the past.

From the clubs point of view, it's probably 'economically' sensible to sell him now as this is possibly the last summer we're going to be able to get a big fee for him.

Don't want Mascherano to leave and don't want the rumours about us being interested in Gilberto Silva to be true either.

Can't see how he can stay now. If we don't sell him now, his value is going to halve by next summer and I can't see him signing a new deal now Benitez has gone.

personally, I can see gerrard leaving this summer and as Baz has said it's probably for the best so we can get a decent fee for him. I really hope Torres/Masch don't leave, I'm not looking forward to the season as it is, if they both go and we have to play Ngog upfront and Lucas in midfield. I'm going to kill myself!!!

One for the newcastle fans. Don't know if it's all been mentioned, but Forests james perch has signed up for the toon.

Tbh it'll be hard for the lad, he's never played at the top, often looking bit part even when we were league 1.

In saying, his best game was at saint james last season, after taking weeks of flak before it. Just think out of the forgiving comfort zone he had, he'll struggle to put in week in/out, he's never done it for the reds.

I've just heard that Spurs have signed up different sponsors for League, Champions league and FA/Carling Cup. Premier League sponsor to be announced later in week.

Has that ever been done before? I didn't even know it was possible.

EDIT: And just found this on a forum:

I can 100% confirm the sponsorship deal has been agreed for the PREM SHIRTS ONLY. This deal alone is worth MORE than the mansion one (8.5m)

We will have one other sponsor for cups which we have yet to find.

I can't give you the name of the new sponsor but it is a very big company.

That's a nice little money earner for the club. I can't imagine fans will bother to purchase more than one shirt though.

Shirt sponsorship is about getting their name on tv at the games more than anything else, and in pictures with the players in magazines and so on and so on, numbers of fans buying the shirts won't matter that much, but most will be buying the prem league one anyway so the PL shirt deal will be far bigger than the others.

The liverpool deals still surprise me, how they, Utd, I think Chelsea, Real get such big money for shirt sponsorship and Arsenal ended up with a 10 year 100mil deal, which is also for the stadium name, means its 10mil a year for stadium and shirt, when Liverpool, Utd/Real are over 20mil a year just for the shirt aren't they? Not sure how they became a good value deal for us at all, ask for less money and throw in the stadium name to boot?

Any Arsenal news, still need 2 CB's imho, and 2 great ones, as we always seem to take 2cb injuries a year by overplaying our main pair with little rest, is it 3 seasons in a row both our main CB's have missed the best part of the last 1/4 of the season with very little rotation before that?

Still got no real wingers, and still hope we get shot of Sagna and get a replacement and offload Diaby and Denilson and get much higher quality backup players in. Wishful thinking though, likely another naff 4-5-1 year, with most of our strikers rotting on the bench, Diaby starting games for some unknown reason and leaking goals left right and centre.

I still have no idea where Wenger is intending Chamakh to play.

I think we received all of it at the beginning of the contract, and lessened it slightly as a result. Other sides renegotiate theirs as time goes by I think, we've sort of lost that privilege.

Koscielny was training with the youth team and reserve team players (now debunked reserve team)

You can no longer buy Gallas, Silvestre or Campbell on your shirt either.

That and the fact that Arsenal aren't a big club when compared to Liverpool, Utd or Real :p

To be honest I don't know why clubs haven't done this before. I'm sure there are enough multinationals such that a slight bidding war could start. Or perhaps

The most ridiculous thing is when we started building, finished building and made the deal(i think maybe midway between the two) we were a team who had just been in the Champs league final and won cups the season before. Frankly its a complete embarassement we couldn't negotiate something massively higher.

Considering I think a couple teams are pushing 35mil a season for a shirt alone, a recent in champs league final club should at the very minimum be going for 20mil a season for shirt, let alone the stadium naming rights. Oh well, as for needing the cash, I don't think so, we'd long since secured the loans, and have been, afaik, paying off the loans regularly and didn't pay off any bulk 100mil in one go, so that likely went into club profits. We've more recently paid off some larger amounts but thats from finished and sold flats not anything else.

Without the 100mil we were completely fine paying off the loan, with money to spend on players, increase profit and thats excluding the property deals, which mostly is just profit for the owners, which is fine by me, its their business their money, their profit. I just can't see where the 100mil fits in as desparately needed, seeing as it doesn't seem to have been actually used for anything directly.

I can't quite tell, was that in response to me saying we need 2 CB's or something else?

I think having lost 3 CB's, of which one was a rock solid starter when fit and one played when we had injuries, we need 2 cb's total at a bare minimum, I still think we need two more decent quality CB's on top of the one we've bought. Djourou is just pants, theres a reason Senderos starts ahead of him for the Swiss, he's just miles and miles better, reads the game better, makes fewer mistakes, is immensely stronger, and just better. Senderos will likely do very well at Fulham, all he's ever needed is a bit of form.

People forget that way back when in the youth euro's I think it was when Rooney at 17 was tearing apart teams, Senderos had him in his pocket the entire game, and Senderos has been a part of one of the most impressive defences in world football for 6 years. I don't however think he makes a great backup player, he's one of those that will be very dodgey for 4-5 games, then fantastic for the next 30. He was also part of a makeshift back four, with Flamini, and can't remember who else, that shut out teams in so many games in the champs league and premier league.

As of this point in time we have 2 cb's who are worth a damn, and fit, and only one is proven(Verm) and thats an awful position to be in going into a new season, off the back of a season with a terrible defence.

We need 2 CB's and really another 2 younger/youth/backup cb's aswell to use in cups to give the main guys a rest and for the odd league game. The fact we need a goalkeeper is not in question, but it looks like Wengers looking for a budget buy and hope they are good, rather than a long term quality keeper. I think we need some real wingers and a few DM's(first team, backup, youth) and then get rid of the dead wood, of which there is a lot.

I dont think there are going to be many deals done until nearer the start of the season with players having a break from the WC.

We have got one CB(Or is virtually a done deal) and one Striker at the moment. I cant see us getting a GK or DM. Would be a nice surprise though.

A couple more CB's are our priority now and we will have to do with what we have.
