playing rooney despite his apparent lack of form was also terrible. watch spain, torres is completely the match of rooney and spain had no probs chopping him at half time. and they dd NOT bring a heskey on, or even someone nearly as terrible as heskey.

Haha, you must be kidding. Spain dont have anyone nearly as bad as heskey TO bring on. Rooney played poorly but got no service at all. A poor rooney is still the best england have to be honest.

yea but when someone is clearly off form you HAVE to bring them off.. theres no point in hanging them out in 4 games consecutively. i know you have to play into form, but at what point do you say, the kid isnt fit.ready.in form and swap him out?

my point is that we should not have taken someone as bad as heskey and therefore couldnt possibly have had the ability to bring on the worst striker in the tournament.

I would consider buying Ferdinand, Rooney and Berb as big spending. Even Carrick and Veron despite them not all doing well.

don't forget they splashed the best part of £20 mil on that useless Anderson, the same for Hargreaves, and the same again on Nistelrooy. They paid more for Nani and Valencia than Carrick too...
so yeah lol at the idea of them not spending much! But hey, at least it's within their means unlike their bloody neighbours.

Even when he got the ball he messed up, poor is such an understatement for someone of his ability. Even Utd fans must admit that they would have taken him off. I think it would have done him good to sub him or leave him out of the starting line up.

Out of the choices I wouldnt have had Heskey come on in his place though. I would have given Crouch a chance for something different.

At one point we even took off Defoe and had Rooney and Heskey up front with neither of them having scored a goal for about a year. Poor performances from them and the Manager.

Still surprised there are no big deals down worth shouting about yet.

Crouch and Defoe at front would have been my choice as clearly the Heskey/Rooney partnership isn't working. We can all see that.

look right. what do germany do? play Klose through the middle, and their version of rooney on the left wing...

that would be like playing Crouch up front and rooney on a wing. its not ungeard of. out of this world etc

yet we get this huge mega over reaction, our players are too terrible, the league is run by foreigners...we need younger team...

all poppycock.

we had a bad tactical manager who put players in positions that were not great considering the form that they were on. bad subs of bad players...

the germans have about 4 foreigners in their team. they just had a better tactical set up its pretty obvious.

yes because they realise that having somebody small like rooney up front doesnt really work very well. and they are a team who passes the ball and not just lump it up the pitch like we do.. and it still works for them!!

crazy huh?

and yes podolski has been pushed left for a little while now, but how many goals has he to show for it? 40 in 78 by wikipedia. rooney has 25 in 65....

so the net effect of this has actually done well for germany, wheras playing rooney centrally effectively crippled our world cup?

How many years are left on Torres' contract? If he leaves and Liverpool don't replace him with someone equally as good then I see them being 7th or 8th continuously until they do.

There's no chance we'll buy someone equally as good because our owners won't want to spend money on that type of player when they can pocket it. We'll sell him for £40-50 million and buy another striker like Ngog for £1.25 million. The rest of the money will simply disappear.

There was a big reaction to Englands performance but it wasn't that much of an over reaction. The players were terrible.

I dont agree with the foreigners as they make the league more interesting to watch. Imagine if we only had that England team to entertain us

Picking a younger team isnt a bad idea if we stick with them for the next two years like France and Spain did. Both have had a great success with it.

I do agree with the manager making stupid choices but the players should be good enough to play well in most formations. Especially a 442.

Looking forward to the Spain Vs Germany game as we might find out if Fab is staying or going after that game. I keep swaying from one way to the other, at the moment I think he will be staying.

IIRC most of them were as a striker. Look at him at Koln, that's him playing Left Wing.

I honestly dont see Torres leaving, I suspect he will say , new manager...I will give it 1 year. You fail to get back into the champions league then next summer I am off. You have 1 year.

Gerrard on the other hand I am not so sure about. I think its 50/50 with him at this point.

but look at the world cup, i cant comment on koln too much because i havent seen that much of them. put himin a decent team and on the left and it seems to work. he has almost kept his 1 in 2 at the world cup so far....

look at who else has enjoyed good form as a smaller striker moving to the left, David Villa for spain. he gets the ball out wide and can then cut inside he has gotten a lot of goals that way.

Although he seems to be like Carragher, new change - and likes Hodgson. Mascherano is the one I can see leaving to get some budget.

Yeah, problem is, the Germany/Spain team is better than the English one, so the other attacking players help him too.

I agree. Seems that he has been wanting a move away for a while now, either to Spain or Italy at one time or another.

Plus if you change the playing style, he doesn't NEED to stay. Hodgson plays an old school type game, big centre back, big defensive minded midfielder, big striker. So you'll probably end up similar to that.
