Some decent rumours floating about with Stephen Ireland to join Fulham - I can only see this happening if we are already ready to install Hughes or Eriksson as boss. Although apparently Hughes doesn't get on with our chief exec (who was from Man City). Odd one.

He'll fit in with the Joe Cole category of potentially great signings this summer (depending on his cost of course)

I think Benny was delayed due to Rafa's sacking. the deal was in place just needed ratifying. He wanted out, fair enough I think.

Jova he had no say in has he had signed already. I think he definitely said yes to Wilson and Cole, I don't need words from him to say so; his interviews after their purchase tells me he rates them.

No idea whats happening with Insua, so don't know what to think. Personally think he will stay anyway.

I understood that part. I just don't agree that 'even if' we only got 50% of a transfer fee to spend, it would be a good idea to sell him.

50% of his fee wouldn't be enough to replace him let alone improve the squad as a whole. We've seen from experience that Masch still puts in 100% (you'd be hard pushed to find a more committed player for us last season) and isn't disruptive, even when he wants to leave.

It wasnt the money why I was suggesting it was a good idea to sell him, the money was simply a side issue. For me its a good idea to sell him because he doesnt want to be there and thats the way I work.

As for disruption, I will agree that he doesnt cause disruption on the field, but unless you are privy to the behind the scenes at Liverpool (I am not) we dont know if any disruption is caused behind the scenes by him wanting to go. In my experiences in life, people who dont want to be somewhere tend to be moody, miserable and not wholeheartedly into whats going on around them, which causes disruption and negativity. Maybe he is different, as I say I dont know because I dont know what goes on in private. My belief as a manager has always been that if someone doesnt want to be somewhere there is little point in keeping them against their will, so I would let him go.

As for the 50%, I still say that there are options out there who can do as good a job as Mascherano for £15m. It merely seems logical that it would be the case. I wonder how many people thought beforehand that Hyypia would be a good defender? Unless the person has a massive knowledge of scouting footballers (and lets face it , none of us on here do, we tend to only know a bit about the bigger name players and even then nothing compared to what a scout knows) then we cant possibly say for certain.

Yup I agree. The only way I can see us getting him is if we get Hughes or Eriksson (probably Eriksson) - his wages will be high, as we don't normally go over £35-40k. Apparently after Utaka for £1m although I don't think we need him.

Ireland would be perfect though, and I can see him turning down other clubs in favour of us, as he'd get very regular football, long term too - as Murphy is probably in his last season of regular football.

If Torres and Mascherano leave then Liverpool will need to buy really, really well if they want to improve on last year. Could be very troublesome if they both go

I think Hodgson would want Masch to stay, but if he sold him for £20-30m + Part Exchange he'd be more than happy with that.
