well before the time I followed football in general rather than club specific , so no I hadnt heard of this incredibly famous person before tonight

laughs at you quoting a journo's opinion (from 3 years ago) as fact

either way just because he was known (for a twenty minute period) in England , doesnt mean he is "world famous"

imho the likes of Tosic will have been long forgotten in the same time frame we are talking about, and I cant see how he could ever be described as "world famous" (and tosic probably played for more than 20 minutes at Utd)

Bloody hell Frank it's not a personal slur at you, what's wrong with you lately?

It's like you're on the rag constantly :/

God above. He's not famous for just being ****. He's famous for managing to con his way into a Premiership game with nothing more than a friend pretending to be George Weah during a phone call.

Do you remember Man Utd's "invisible" grey kit? Pires' and Henry's terrible attempted clever penalty? Same thing. Like I said, it's just modern footballing folklore. You don't remember it, didn't notice it happen. Big deal, move on.

What makes you think he will end up being a "what if" player?

Because Benzema has, Sniejder was heading that way till he left, Owen's downward spiral started when he moved there and I could go on and on

Madrid = the place where to ruin your career

And how many has that been since the Figo & Zidane days?

Agreed, from players that are already world class that MOVE there, don't seem to go too well. Beckham did OK, then got completely dropped, then got his place back. Not a very safe place. I guess most recently its Ronaldo, who's actually carried his form to them.

I'd say that's debatable, obviously he wasn't helped by injury last season but he didn't look like the same Ronaldo to me

Will be interesting to see how he does this season...

I guess, but you can't argue with his goal return though, and in a way playing out of position? Not to mention the other players that score too, so imagine if he was the only one scoring high amounts

True Ronaldo always guarantee's goals through

Personally though I dont think he's ever returned to his 07/08 form, even in his last season with us (probably because he didn't want to be there anymore). Arsenal have all that to come this season with Csec :p

His goalscoring for Real Madrid has been phenomenal.

29 league games
26 goals

6 champions league games
7 goals

Total
35 games / 33 goals

If Madrid ruin anymore players under Mourinho, I'll be very surprised indeed.

Ozil's a good signing for them, I guess he'd prefer to play in the more technical league where he isn't going to be kicked to pieces every week.

It's a shame for United to miss out, he could have been the definitive replacement for Giggs, and they could have forgotten about Nani's inconsistency... still you have Bébé right

Don't like posting till it's confirmed, but looks like we've signed Moussa Dembele;

Moussa Dembele traded in AZ for Fulham. Both clubs have agreed on the transfer of the 23-year-old Belgian, who in West London will sign contract for four years.

The move provides the Alkmaar approximately five million euros. Tuesday he had to undergo a medical examination, Wednesday is Dembele presented by Fulham.

AZ gave him last weekend off together with his agent to complete the negotiations. The international screened some time with interest from Birmingham City, but opted for Fulham last week anyway.

Not a bad deal, meant to be one of the best players in the dutch league.

Ronaldo was absolutely superb this season, if he hadn't gifted half his penaltys to kaka to stop him being completely embarassed that would have been another 4-5 goals in the league, and he missed several fairly easy chances in pretty much every game, most of which he made himself.

Diarra's been brilliant there, Alonso has been his same over rated self, Benzema/Kaka's reputation seems to have stemmed more from Championship Manager than actual ability and it showed :p

Real's biggest problem is adjusting to a new manager with a completely different style every season, it just doesn't work. AS for Beckham, he was playing pretty well to be honest when Capello dropped him for no apparent reason, decided probably that Beckham was getting all the headlines rather than himself, looked an idiot, reinstated Beckham and the team did better.

Too many ego's at Real Madrid, and often the managers ego on top of that which is at fault. With the board perfering anyone hyped up or off the back of a great season instead of geniune world class players, and also they'd sign a more famous/expensive player for a position they have covered, rather than the best player for the position they need to improve in the squad. Alonso has been no where near as good as Diarra, but he was famous, and Spanish and a big name so they wasted millions on him, rather than buy a competant right or left back.
