"Liverpool

Konchesky signed a three-year contract with Liverpool in August 2010 for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £3 million. He was reuinted with ex-Fulham manager Roy Hodgeson and is looking forward to playing for the best team in the country under Roy's guidence."

Which one of you went on Wikipedia?

Konchesky looks likely to be having a medical ahead of his move to Liverpool tomorrow. Rerported fee as much as £4m :o

That's the Mascherano money spent then.

Edit -

Apparently we've (Liverpool) signed Raul Meireles. Breaking news on the Guardian website.

Liverpool have moved quickly to replace Javier Mascherano by agreeing a £10.7m package with Porto tonight for the Portugal international Raul Meireles.

Meireles, one of Portugal's more impressive players in the World Cup, is understood to have agreed personal terms and, if everything goes according to plan, the deal will be completed over the weekend, dependent on the 27-year-old passing a medical examination.

The transfer was rushed through this evening after Mascherano finally got his wish to leave Anfield, joining Barcelona in a £20m deal that freed up the money for Liverpool to bring in a cheaper replacement.

Meireles is available for a low fee because he only has two years of his contract left and Porto have been trying to sell him rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in the future.

The player has been prominently linked with Manchester United over the past month but does not fit into the club's policy under the Glazer family of not signing players for big money if they are aged 26 or above, Dimitar Berbatov being the exception to the rule.

Liverpool do not operate with such restrictions and the manager Roy Hodgson will hope Meireles can make his debut in the league game at Birmingham City tomorrow week.

Raul Meireles isn't a bad signing for Liverpool tbh, he's no Masch but he's not bad.

Poulsen is Masch's direct replacement. Meireles is more of a replacement for Aquilani and/or Lucas if he ends up going too (unlikely).

It will be interesting to see if there will be any money left over for a striker now though.

Dont know anything about him, but seems to be getting a very good reception from those that do! Look forward to seeing him play.

Football Manager's usually spot on I guess ;)

I've only seen him play a few times and he looks a tidy player, I can't say he's particularly stood out though.

As for people solely refering to his performances at the WC; I'd be very worried if we've signed a player simply on the back of the WC.

Fixed.

Other than knowing Meireles once bummed Giggs I know absolutely nothing about him. Got big boots to fill so I hope he's ready for the fight.

As above, I'm not sure he's being signed as a direct replacement for Masch. We've already signed a vastly inferior player to replace Masch. On paper Meireles is more of a replacement for Aquilani.

Strange you need a replacement for someone who never played... :p

Does anyone else not rate Huntelaar at all?
When he has a run in the team, whatever team, he does well. He just doesn't get chances.

Im not sure if I'd be happy with Ibrahimovic signing tbh.
If some of the loans that Milan have made, especially Amelia, get made permanent next season then I wont mind, but if they cant be made permanent because of Ibra's transfer now, then I wont be happy.

As good as he is, Milan don't NEED him. A strike force of Ronny, Pato, Borriello & Inzaghi is still capable of a fair few goals. Milan's problem hasn't been scoring the last season or so, its been what they've conceded.

I'd rather see the same money spent on a few defenders tbh. A left back & centre back would be ideal tbh.
