Yeah they were talking on TalkSport this morning saying it's a done deal

They did break the Tevez to City one months before anyone else did last summer......

I didn't hear anything about / from talk sport or that the deal was done.

Just that it was a strong rumor that Torres would be on the move, after Champions league football, which he's more likely to achieve with money bags.

Ignoring the source being Talk****e, I amazingly doubt any deal involving Liverpool is a done deal when nobody knows who will own or manage the club by the time the transfer window opens.

a lot of rumours linking us with a bid for Van de Vaart, hope it's true but as has been said earlier in this thread, cant see anything being done transfer wise until ownership is sorted

Fernando Torres is concerned his health is at risk by playing for Liverpool in the Premier League and fears he could be injured for life if he stays in England.

All the recent speculation has seen the Reds' star striker being linked with £60million move to Manchester City in the summer.

But the former Atletico Madrid marksman has hinted he will leave the British Isles if he does say goodbye to Anfield.

"The Premier League is such a tough competition and I have always admired this championship and the players who are here," Torres, whose season has been scuppered by a knee injury which could see him miss the start of the World Cup with Spain, told The News Of The World.

"This is my third season and I'm still amazed to see (Steven) Gerrard, (Wayne) Rooney and (Frank) Lampard, players who have been here a long time, still playing at such a high level and with such impressive rhythm because the English league really wears down a player.

"I just can't imagine what state I'll be in within five or six years if I continue to play here - it could easily give me problems when I stop playing. The physical level is superior to all other countries."

Torres has admitted that he would not have come to England had it not been for Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, who has the right managerial approach for the 26-year-old to improve his game.

"If I score twice in a game I want to hear that I played badly to help me do even better next time," he added.

"Rafa is ruthless and sometimes it is tiring but he knows the right way to deal with me.

"I have put in a lot of effort but you always need someone who brings the best out in you, someone who is very demanding.

"If Rafa had not been here I would never have come. He has taught me a lot and he has helped me go beyond my limits and to be the player I am today."

Sounds like El Nino needs to strap on a set

haha english league too tough for these spanish girls. ronaldo coped with it, even thrived on it, it made him the player he is today. henry done much the same, apart from he had the ability not to get clattered because he was sensationally quicker across the first 10m so could avoid the contact.

i personally believe if you can succeed in the premier league you can be great anywhere. the spanish league is just a joke in comparison to ours. 25 points between top and 3rd. the spanish bank's bankroll the top 2 with ridiculous money and they just fight between each other for the season. Arsenal prove you can play a wonderful game and still do well in the premier league. they are just missing a few players to keep the consistancy to challenge for the full honors

Rafa might have helped him progress as a player in previous seasons but this season he's ****ed him over big time. He's brought him back from injury far too soon because we rely on him for goals and look awful without him and he's constantly asked him to play upfront with absolutely no support whatsoever.

I think he genuinely loves the club but I wouldn't be surprised if he does start to look elsewhere because we're going nowhere fast and his talent is wasted in our team.

Torres is right (obviously he is, he's the one getting smashed week in, week out), this league does have a tendency to ruin the more skilled players, too many crushing tackles, too many limited managers coming up with the ingenious 'get stuck into him, let him know you're there' speech. Wenger has said on occasions that players like Hleb were walking off the field every week with his legs black and blue (the reason he left the prem imo) and barely healing before the next game.

Too many enforcers in the league who's sole job is to ruin the players with more ability. It does drive off a certain type of player (we'll never seen Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldo again etc.) as they just don't need to be kicked by English boneheads.

Well you basically suffer from the problem we do. There's no backup for your star player.

Take Rooney out and we start to struggle. It's not even like Gerrard has had a good season to mask over the loss of Torres for long periods.

^^ It's the way most English teams play and have always played. We've always been know as a nation that like to get stuck in and if players don't like it they can **** off. Our league shouldn't change to accommodate players that don't like being tackled.

I never said we should change, just that it's no surprise that many talented footballers will never come here, it's a shame but we're obviously never going to change, we'll always be this way and 50 year down the line we'll still be wondering why our national team is consistently terrible

I'm sure culture, language and weather are more to blame for players looking elsewhere than footballing reasons. Besides, a lot of very talented footballers have played on these shores and been very successful ;)

Is it coincidence that its AW / Arsenal players who complain the most about this - every other team and players get on with it.

Im not doubting that its full - blooded in the EPL, but if you cant stand the heat......

Torres is the kind of lightning forward imo that is likely to get injuries due to bursts of power he uses, but the amount he gets also indicates there is something else wrong, whether its man management when he is recovering or the way he moves or something else - but no way should he suffer so many

As to the national team, I dont believe its anything like that , its something ingrown thats been lost. Personally too many young kids are after the fame and wealth rather than the love of the game - whether its Lamps or Rooney (and whether you love him or hate him as a person Lamps has an incredible ratio of played / missed games for club and country). Its very rare to see nowadays and think we are in the middle of the nintendo/xbox generation - where all kids wanted to sit infront of the tv instead of being outside with a ball (Im talking 10 years ago so they would be on the verge of making it big now if they had been outside)

I suppose Henry slipped your mind? Pires even? I would say they have both had their fair share not better or worse.

Just out of interest how long was Pires' top flight career (not just at Arsenal) - it always appeared that he kind of came from nowhere, had a really good but relatively short career at Arsenal and then dropped rapidly.... this may be completely wrong just how it appeared at the time

edit - Metz (6 years), ify 2 years in Marseille, 2000 - 2006 Arsenal early years where a little iffy but from 2002 - 05 had a decent time (with 05 probably his best season) before running down his contract in 06 and leaving for Villareal where its been a mixed bag of huge highs and bad lows it seems from Wiki

edit 2 - maybe loved by Arsenal fans which is fair enough really - but seemingly an pretty average player (could have been a lot better without a few serious injuries), not to the standards of Henry, Evra or Cantona
