Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko will remain at the German side next season, according to the club.

Dzeko has been touted for a possible big-money transfer to one of Europe's big names, with the likes of Manchester United and neighbours City both believed to be interested in capturing his services.

The highly-rated Bosnian netted 22 goals in 34 Bundesliga outings last season and was free to leave the Volkswagen Arena on Monday had a release clause in his contract been met.

No offer for the 40million euros (£35million) fee was forthcoming, though, and Wolfsburg sporting director Dieter Hoeness revealed the 24-year-old would be staying put.

The news will come as a huge boost to new Wolves coach Steve McClaren, who had described the front man as "immensely important" to his side's cause ahead of the new season.

McClaren has been charged with reversing the club's fortunes next term after a disappointing eighth-placed finish last time out.

The ambitious outfit are looking to challenge for honours at the top of the table after winning the title in 2009 and Hoeness said in a statement: "The conditions have not been met.

"We are very pleased that the period of uncertainty is over. He is a player of huge quality who would have been very difficult for us to replace."

Glad if that means City wont be getting him. also means we wont be either :(

Slightly o/t,

Just seen the headline "Breaking News - Ramsey signs new contract for Arsenal"

They could've phrased it different

Good news but lol at the headline though.

I hope he makes a full recovery after his legbreak and gets back to playing regularly.

Rumours that we could get Gourcuff for £21mil, looks like it'd be a good bit of business for Arsenal if we could sell Cesc for roughly twice that figure...

oi! no! keep your hands off!
you're supposed to be performing your usual annual trick of stumping up large for a spurs player! :D

/me waves a giant poster of Modric at the United Fans. MODRIC. You want Modric!

It's ok, I'll take Eden Hazard instead ;)

Don't want Arteta, ugh.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp believes out-of-contract Chelsea star Joe Cole has already agreed a free transfer away from Stamford Bridge.

The 28-year-old, named on Tuesday in England's 23-man squad for the World Cup, appears set to leave the Premier League champions this summer and has been linked with a number of clubs, notably Spurs and Manchester United. Arsenal are also said to be in the running for his signature.

But Redknapp, Cole's old manager at West Ham, said he would not be heading to White Hart Lane.

"It looks to me someone's going to make a great free transfer, if he doesn't stay at Chelsea," Redknapp told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I genuinely don't know who that is. I don't think it's going to be Tottenham.

"I've got a feeling, I may be wrong, that he's already agreed a deal with someone, and it's not Tottenham.

"I'm not saying if he hadn't agreed a deal with someone and he was available and didn't stay at Chelsea that we wouldn't be interested.

"I'm a big fan of Joe's, but the feedback we've had is that he might well have already done something."

Cole struggled with injury for large parts of last season and on his return to fitness was often overlooked by Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti.

5/4 on to be a United player next season

Pleased with this to be honest. If Elokobi doesnt continue improving, then he can slot in there, if not, he'll probably be in midfield? I can't see Mancienne coming on loan again, and I think the money would be better spent up front than on defence

Elokobi whilst being a crowd pleaser is too big imo.

I've heard that Mancienne may well be staying with Wolves permanently, dunno how true that is though.

Someone to partner Doyle (if they keep hold of him) would be ideal, Wolves need to play 4-4-2 at home and then Doyle or A.N.Other up front in a 4-5-1 away.

Fletcher for the price he's been banded around at is ridiculous.

Why have so few deals been announced so far - surely all buying clubs want a deal before the WC, and I cant see many at all being agreed now majority of players are with their countries until the WC finishes (albeit not in SA, so I guess its still possible)

Given that it is a WC - surely players will be going absolutely full tempo, so possibility of injury is probably higher (pure guess though) so even selling club would be nervous of high value player (who they might need to sell) coming back injured

Cant think of a single high-value deal in England being announced - Arsenal's new striker on a free is the only major announcement really (sorry however big he is in Mexico, Utd's new striker must be even lower down even if we paid £10m for him)

Only Villa to Barcelona has hit the headlines from Spain, nothing from Italy or France (admittedly JM has only just completed his move to RM( - I was just expecting a lot of deals to be announced before the players all went to their country's boot camps as it were......

None of the players you have mentioned or indeed the clubs and the amount spent are significant in getting the market moving.
Valencia cant spend any of the Villa money as it will be servicing debt, there is nobody left of any large value that madrid can buy who will substantially improve them (bar say Torres).
Until Barca make a proper big bid for Fabergas, and all the smaller teams managers have seen if they can poach any unknowns on the cheap from the tournament, no money is going to move.

can't see Fletcher working, Mick needs to be cleverer.

Nope me neither, so I don't see why they would even entertain the idea of 7 million for Fletcher :/

MMc has never been clever, this is the bloke who ****ed his best player off before a WC ;)

Yeah plus some players will be focused on the international scene and not want the distraction, away at training camps / friendlies etc.

Then bear in mind that officially contracts usually run until the end of June, so the likes of Joe Cole will still be getting paid by Chelsea.

Most clubs will have around a month after the world cup before they need to be playing official games again so there is plenty of time to do some deals then. If you look back historically a lot of deals get left to August even.
