Fulham linked with Jan Schlaudraff - don't know much about him, but apparently he's a quick striker...about it really.

Also apparently 'set' to sign Fabio Aurelio...if that's true, he'd be a great signing for us. It does depend what happens with Konchesky and whether we sign Shorey too though.

How do you feel about Hodgson for Inter, Syke? Fairly baseless rumour, obviously, but do you think he might be tempted, again?

That's the problem, he said he has one big job left in him. In his mind, it's England. However if Inter come back to him, he could be tempted, whether he wants to for a third time though! Be terrible should we lose him though, no idea who could possibly replace him. Hoping Capello gets the job so Hodgson is safe, the problem is it seems that Hodgson has been planning for one big job, as he is just signing rolling contracts, season by season - whether that's in anticipation for England/another big club, or incase he falters and could have left easily :p

Just wait for a summer playing football and possibly becoming world champions playing alongside Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Puyol, etc, etc, then come back to Arsenal, think I've just been playing with the best in the world, they are winning titles, I can win a world cup/euro cup with them.......... and now I'm back in London with a bunch of saps who can't win anything?

At which point his trust in Wenger might just slip and he might again request a transfer.

Its not the end of the story, and its bad news really, the only thing that will keep Cesc at Arsenal, is Cesc lacking ambition which isn't great. Lets be honest not moving to Barca, seeing Barca win their first 10 games and watching Arsenal struggle in the top 6-7 at the same time with again no improvement, do you think he'll be at his absolute best? He's professional and a class act, and he won't be bad, but he wants to go, they want him, he's better than struggling to a CL spot next season and Wenger just isn't going to improve the team.

They've started a bidding war now, we could have said, we'll let him go for £60mil, we either get a huge payday now rather than less next season, or they'll say he isn't worth that much and maybe Cesc would actually prefer to stay at ARsenal where he feels more valued than Barca who won't pay for him.

What happened last time with Henry and Vieira, ignored 30mil + offers, begged them to stay another year, then they left for around half the money the next season after we failed to live up to whatever promises we made them.

Realistically, 40m this year, or 20mil next year for a player who by then has been lied to too often and completely wants out with no chance he'll stay, we'll be screwed.

Again Wenger showing he's incapable of learning from past mistakes.

As for money plus Keita, Keita really isn't very good, at all, Yaya I quite like, is a little over rated, but considering Wengers clearly not going to be dropping Song, are we going to move to a 4-5-1 with two DM's now and get even worse? I'd take Yaya over Song any day, but if Wengers going to insist on playing Song, Yaya will be a complete waste.

I see that statement as one of two things.

1 - Trying to get the best deal for Arsenal financially.
or 2 - Wenger thinks he can convince Cesc to stay.

I still believe that he will go eventually, but it's nice to see Arsenal not be bullied by Barca. I usually admire them for their values but they've acted quite arrogantly in this situation.

Cesc stays or they get £45M + Yaya Toure would both be decent situations for Arsenal imo.

@drunkenmaster - I don't think Yaya would play DM for Arsenal, I think Wenger would use him at CB with Song retaining his position. He could then also cover for Song if he gets injured/suspended.

How exactly has he done it wrong? I guess you would have just sold him for £30m

Either Barca come back with a higher price or he stays. Either is better than letting him go for £30m. I am so glad you are not in charge of the deal lol

And we are hardly going to let him go for £20m next season are we. Henry and Veira were both getting on in years and not having much left on their contracts.

Fab will still have three years on his contract next season, still enough to bargain with in my eyes. I do think we will get more for him this season tho.

I think if we sell him now, we will get £40m + Next season depending how well he does £30m +

Cant we sell DM to Barca? Your comments are always so negitive about Arsenal. Personally I think this is great news, either we get more money or we get to keep our Captain for another season.

The more this goes on, the more I think we're playing the long game which is the smart way of doing things. This way as well, we can operate to get other players without sellers fleecing us knowing outright we have Cesc's transfer money to spend. Then perhaps, we sell him right at the end of the window. Or we have by then accumulated enough players for Cesc to have changed his mind. Don't forget the one thing we have on our side is that he'd likely warm the bench if he leaves now, almost all of our transfers who have gone there in recent years haven't done particularly well. This may convince him to spend another year here.

You never know as well, a new amazing midfielder could emerge from the WC who Barca want and they'd forget about Cesc.

I can also see something like the Cole/Gallas/£5m deal happening, I suppose it'd be funny if it happened again with Cesc and Toure, but that is just how little leverage we'd have with a player wanting out.

Anyway, the offer apparently was £29 which we've rejected. Let's hope we get well over £10m more for him one way or another.

Seems harsh to keep him there if he wants to go. Saying that, if they're not stumping up the cash then Arsenal have no requirement to sell, but you do wonder if he'll play with the same heart...

Meh, it's over for the summer now anyway hopefully, Barca said they'd respect the club and the contract so I can't see them pursuing this until next summer, and then it will depend on whether Arsenal have had a good or bad season probably. I still think Fabregas wants to win something big with Arsenal. Wenger should buy a couple of good and ready players though to show everybody (not just Fabregas) that he has ambition to really go for the top trophies, it's time now.

Arsenal aren't doing anything wrong, he has a 5 year contract which is extremely lucrative and the club have built a team around him based on that contract. For him to be anything less than professional would be hugely disappointing.

Why exactly has Cole been allowed to leave Chelsea for free? I thought perhaps his age, but then he's only 28. Totally spent? He's had 60 appearances in two years, not ideal and noting our injury problems are we taking on somebody who could be turning into a crock?

As said earlier in this thread, perhaps this could be the end of Arshavin and/or Rosicky.

No chance.

Fabregas leaves, move nasri infield. Cole to play in nasris wide position

Apparently Cole to Arsenal is a BS story so says the Oliver Kay from the Times

In other news...

Sports daily Marca had a picture of Liverpool captain Gerrard on its front page on Wednesday, with the headline "Warm, Warm."

Marca said that Real president Florentino Perez "has already chosen" Gerrard to be the "star of his second super production," meaning his second season in charge since returning to the club presidency exactly a year ago.

Marca, which is notoriously close to Perez, added as an afterthought that the signing of Gerrard "has the approval of Jose Mourinho," Real's new coach.

The Portuguese coach was quoted as saying about Gerrard, who turned 30 on Sunday, that "I like players at the end of their careers."

According to the Spanish media, one of the conditions that Mourinho had for accepting the Real job was that he would basically be in charge of deciding who to buy and sell.

Perez spent a staggering 260 million euros (317.92 million dollars) on eight players, without consulting with coach Manuel Pellegrini, a year ago.

Pellegrini was sacked last week after a trophy-less season, in order to make room for Mourinho.

According to media reports, Perez is prepared to splash out up to 200 million euros this season, which would again make the whites the biggest spenders in world football.

Meanwhile, AS, the rival sports daily to Marca, said that Real are very close to signing Brazilian right-back Maicon from European champions Inter Milan, following a request from Mourinho.

According to AS, Mourinho is also interested in Daniele De Rossi of Roma, Lazio's Aleksandar Kolarov and Angel Di Maria of Benfica.
