Allegedly, Gio Dos Santos has 'resigned' from the Mexico team because his brother was dropped.

Which is a bummer as I'm sure if we were thinking of selling him, the World Cup would have been ideal to bump his price up nicely.

Haha, what a stupid reason "Take my brother or I'm not going" :p

Acting like a prat will most likely lower his transfer value too!

Surely selling clubs will want the opposite though :p

as I said risk of injury - player having a good season and then for whatever reason a so -so tournement......just as many reasons to get it sorted now.....not to mention actually get their own transfers sorted also (which they wont want to pay a premium for)

Quite a few big players have been saying "I want to get my future sorted before the world cup so Im not distracted during it" To have it dealt with before the WC is probably less distracting for the player than thinking will I, wont I, where to....

was just surprised how few had been announced thats all

If you look back historically a lot of deals get left to August even.

For the other three out of every 4 I would agree - just thought with the WC especially clubs would be eager to resolve stuff before thats all (for the players already "known")

None of the players you have mentioned or indeed the clubs and the amount spent are significant in getting the market moving.
Valencia cant spend any of the Villa money as it will be servicing debt, there is nobody left of any large value that madrid can buy who will substantially improve them (bar say Torres).
Until Barca make a proper big bid for Fabergas, and all the smaller teams managers have seen if they can poach any unknowns on the cheap from the tournament, no money is going to move.

What, Madrids entire back 4 is dreadful and their backup left/right backs are awful, Kaka has been a turd, Guti is off, Gago/Granero/Benzema are all crap/probably off.

Madrid could if they wanted to(had the money or the government just wanted to get them a really nice birthday present) buy huge money players for about 6 first team slots that are up for grabs. That was if the manager stayed the same, with Mourinho, either Diarra could be up for sale.

Frankly, keeper, Ronaldo, Alonso, Raul(if he's not retiring this season) are about the only "safe" players right now. Mourinho also gets unhappy when he can't buy who he wants so they'll likely give him a tonne to spend.

AS for spending before the world cup, the buying teams probably want deals done now while the players could be cheaper. But the selling teams will hope a huge world cup showing by any player might make their guy the one Real/Chelsea/Utd/Barca decide to make their big name signing at 60M+.

Players are with their national teams, training, busy and managers(club and country) probably don't want them distracted as they get ready for the World Cup. A couple weeks off after the cup finishes and the transfer market will go mental.

I can kind of understand the WC factor for the selling club, and that'd they want to wait, but does it mean anything? I'm sure it's more the media looking at transfers that have gone through before hand, and screaming to the hills that a summer goal or two has 'added' £10m onto a player's value. Arshavin had a great Euro tournament last time around, but we ended up getting him for the price we wanted anyway.

It may have been something years ago but then don't forget most clubs are broke now, there really is one Real, one Barca, one Chelsea, one Man City & UTD. Not all players are going to attract those clubs.

Don't forget also about e.g. Dzeko, he's not even at the WC this year. It'd therefore make sense for the German club to cash in now, before a potential emergent competes against him for a big money transfer this summer.

Edit - looking through the source of all things right (Wiki) it says the transfer window in Spain hasn't started yet. How have Barca got Villa?

Arsenal's next signing looks like it's going to be one Laurent Koscielny if you believe any of the gossip...I assume no-one else knows who the Fully star out swear words please. VS he is either. We've had a bid rejected once, and now we're greasing his team - Lorient - up by loaning them Coquelin for a season.
Hopefully another one of Wenger's diamonds in the rough :)

I draw your attention to the phrase 'of any large value', which had you paid attention would have saved you writing that load of drivel. football finance opperates the same as other finance, it needs something to kick start it.

Rumours are the Edin Dzeko will be signing for £36mill for Man City at some point this month. Good signing for City if they manage to get him...

As for Fabregas?? as long as Arsenal stick to what they want for him £40mill+ then i dont mind too much...anything less is ridiculous.

Yes, I'm sure that he can't be simply replaced with one player, but if Arsene uses the large sum that we are expecting to receive wisely, then there's no reason why we can't kick on next season without him.

Barca made a formal offer for Fabregas as SSN reporting at the moment...no fees or anything like that has been reported so its very likely Fabregas will be at Barca next season.

I hope he enjoys riding that bench next season;):p

Can't see it happening before the WC, it'll probably last all summer then he'll go at the last minute and not get a replacement in :(.

40m + Keita, then buy Gourcuff and a goalie. It'd be bad to lose Fabregas but the money certainly opens up other doors which soften the blow

We've got to get 40million+ for Cesc he has the potential to be one of the best midfielders ever and is still very young. Anything less would be an error.
