Official Sword Coast Legends Thread

If you've linked your Steam account to your Sword Coast account, you should find a second entry in your Steam games list...
Sword Coast Legends - Head Start Access

which you can download now (105MB)

I guess there will be more to download later... it can't be 105MB, surely!

I ordered directly off steam & it appeared straight away then I registered with swordcoast.com which then added the early access link on steam as well. Have you checked you have not been emailed a code?

Sorry, I should have mentioned in my post that I have it in Steam, but it gives me no option to start installing now.

I think its closer to the old Neverwinter knights games than DAO from what I have seen

neverwinter nights :)
i thought NWN 1+2 and DAO had the same ppl behind them. I mostly saw the difference in the fact that nwn were more strict in the D&D rules and character creation and DAO had a great story and companions.

hopefully the multiplayer is good, the graphics aren't really up to much from the screenshots unfortunately

edit: inb4 'omg graphics arent everything etc etc' - my comment is just that it looks 'old' already.

Really? I think the graphics look pretty damn good. In the gameplay videos I've seen, it certainly doesn't look old and dated to me.

My only concern is normally before a release there are a load of reviews bigging it up. The silence is making me worry there may be an NDA to stop bad reviews getting out before people buy.

I'm a negative sod though :p

Plenty of depth on this. We muddled through a dungeon crawl like complete noobs but had fun with it. It's deliciously nerdy. Looking forwards to getting my skill tree (which is massive) opened up a bit

Haven't tried it tbh. I'm not one of those people that enjoys pausing the game every few seconds to micro manage my party (yes, I did not enjoy DAO for that reason, so sue me), so I don't think it would be for me. Playing with a team, however, was fun. I went with a cleric which found me serving the role of both tank and healer oddly enough, while Neil and Ice went with wizard and ranger respectively to deal out the damage. The ranger/rogue seems fairly integral as we would have missed a lot of loot and stepped on a lot more traps without it. At low levels you don't have a huge number of abilities to choose from so you use what you have, but I can see that changing as you fill up all 20 quickslots and the gameplay becomes more technical. The large dungeon crawls are very large, so don't worry about it being over too quickly. Just make sure the host sets the rewards before you start, unlike Ice who had us battle our way through precariously clinging to life only to come out with a bit of gold and some weapon drops!

Just seen this thread! Is it worth getting the DD version over the standard?

Couple of other questions for those more up to speed with it. The creation element, is it true its just 'dungeons' rather than a persistent world ala NWN? Do u have to buy assets from the store? The beholder monster for Dungeon Masters part of the DD version alludes to this?

Sounds good.

I'll give you a shout when I get it for some games!

Hmm... played dungeon crawls for 4h yesterday.
It really doesn't feel like a game that is launching in 2 weeks time!

Playing solo was incredibly tedious and not very well balanced.
Playing with two mates was much better but I still found it a very unsatisfying game.

Overall, regretting the purchase at the moment :(

There are a few threads over on the Steam forums with people saying the character creation / development is extremely basic and more like an action RPG.

Some examples of the skill system were people saying a priest had to use skill points to learn the turn undead skill, mages having to use skill points to level up the spells like magic missile (instead of them leveling with the character) and having all spells / skills on cooldowns instead of having a number of uses per rest.

Can someone who has played it confirm if this is true, as it sounds more like a diablo clone than a D&D game if it is :(

I'm with you on that man. Considering this isn't an alpha, beta or even early acccess but an early start for pre orders the bugs in this game are massive.
The progress not saving is a game breaking bug and should have been ironed out by now, not sure how this managed to get past testers.
Some of the character creation choices are pointless as well, what's the point in eye colour when you can't see the characters face during game play
