Official Sword Coast Legends Thread

Can someone who has played it confirm if this is true, as it sounds more like a diablo clone than a D&D game if it is :(

Yup, that's all true.
I played a Cleric and had to spend a point to turn Cure Wounds I into II.

Cantrips seem to have a 2s cast or cooldown but you can pretty much chain them constantly, although they are pathetic in terms of damage.

The real spells are all on cooldowns... from memory my Cleric's 2 heals were on 20s and 40s CD and the aoe prayer was 60s.

The FFA looting is a killer 'feature'... you just could not play in a PUG... you would have to trust your party members to roll on loot or share it out.

And no XP if you're down when the critter dies!
In our 3-man run, the end boss was a beholder.
One of us died seconds before the boss and he received 0 XP - the other two received 350XP... a large XP gain and very unfair that the unconscious team member received nothing!

It's not D&D as I knew it but I can't comment on how true it is to modern rules.

As a computer game, it was just very unsatisfying :(

I quite enjoyed what I played, admittedly I spent more time with the DM mode/creation side of things but on the whole I thought it was pretty good, I had a couple of little bugs here and there but nothing major & I'm sure those will be fixed for release.
Anyone know the actual release date?

I'm not sure its a media blackout if the game is not due to be released until the 20th of next month, poor marketing perhaps, I had not even heard about it till just before the early access started & there are quite a few videos on YouTube from the devs doing live streams.
If we don't see reviews the week before release then I may start to worry but at the moment I'm optimistic after the early access which I quite enjoyed although I did spend most of my time in DM mode.

The comments do not look promising. People all over the 'net saying it's completely unfinished and needs about 6 months more work.

They've already delayed launch by a couple months, so it seems there are issues the developer recognises.

I'm not liking the fact that the devs have gone on record to say you do not need to pause the game. BG and the like was all about planning out your moves with the game paused.

The games obviously got something going for it when you look at all the prizes it has won but I do get the feeling (no factual basis for this) that's it's rushed and unsure what it wants to be. Does it want to be a BG game and a true d&d experience or is it a trashy dungeon crawler (which may stil be a good game) trading off the d&d name.

Hopefully the former get a sad feeling it's looking like the latter, May stil be a good game but wouldn't be what i was looking for when I seen this.

On the plus side at least there is a new BG coming out :D

From the other thread:

"Having pre-ordered and played in the last 2 head starts this game is nothing like what they've advertised.
The head start itself is nothing more than a disguised beta test, it also stops you from getting a refund in steam as it's classed as a full game.
The previous head start weekend was just 8 days before the game was released and it was nowhere near complete, it wouldn't even save progress for a large amount of people and the dungeon master mechanic has so much missing from it.
The pausing in game for tactics? Nope. You can pause but that's about it and it's nothing like Neverwinter Nights, it's more Gauntlet with added skills.
The D&D system? Very loosely based.
Things may change but the core game will stay the same so I'd probably wait for the game to come out first and then wait for trusted reviews before you hit buy.

While it was fun in multiplayer it's nothing like what's advertised and if I could get a refund now I would."

Take those prizes with a pinch of salt, how can a game receive prizes when nobody has been able to play it?

Also the collective game press jizzed all over Dragon Age, which I personally thhought was utter ******. Since the same people are making this, I'm not getting hyped.

Dragon Age: Origins was the utter ******, the other 2 not so much.
If you were talking about them then you are forgiven but if you're talking about Origins then call yourself Peppa and call me David

Ah come now. DA:O was a graphically superior NWN, only with the D&D mechanics ripped out and replaced with a kiddies version. The mechanics resembled an MMO with their "taunt" and "aggro" levels for tanks, and the combat was generally rubbish, consisted of "kiting" mobs around until they died.

The story was so boring I didn't even finish it.

A new D&D game is exciting because D&D has fantastic depth and strategy. Although I've not seen any CRPG using 5th ed rules, and I'm not a pen and paper player, so who knows if that's still true.

Putting peoples opinions on other games aside, I quite enjoyed what I played of this over the two weekends it has been playable, I think that the biggest draw to it for me is the DM module creation tools which allow you to create you own quests, NPCs, enemies & dungeons & then either play them yourself co-op with you're friends or you can DM the game for a group of others influencing the action in the background or by taking control of any NPC.
The possibilities are endless if the community embraces the tools.
