Official Sword Coast Legends Thread

Putting peoples opinions on other games aside, I quite enjoyed what I played of this over the two weekends it has been playable, I think that the biggest draw to it for me is the DM module creation tools which allow you to create you own quests, NPCs, enemies & dungeons & then either play them yourself co-op with you're friends or you can DM the game for a group of others influencing the action in the background or by taking control of any NPC.
The possibilities are endless if the community embraces the tools.

That will only be any good if the underlying mechanics are any good. With people saying that this is a heavily cut-down D&D implementation, I'm not sure I care how much user generated content is possible.

If the basic mechanics suck/are dumbed down, then the whole game is dead to me, no matter what DM tools they have.

Ah come now. DA:O was a graphically superior NWN, only with the D&D mechanics ripped out and replaced with a kiddies version. The mechanics resembled an MMO with their "taunt" and "aggro" levels for tanks, and the combat was generally rubbish, consisted of "kiting" mobs around until they died.

The story was so boring I didn't even finish it.

A new D&D game is exciting because D&D has fantastic depth and strategy. Although I've not seen any CRPG using 5th ed rules, and I'm not a pen and paper player, so who knows if that's still true.

There's so much wrong with your post I don't know where to start.
It was never meant to be NWN and the combat had so much more to it than what you say, story wise, I'd gimp you out on the corner then Cleveland steamer you after just for putting boring in that sentence!

Joking aside it was a great game and me and the entire world say you're wrong :)

Enough about how wrong you are though, back to Sword Coast Legends, hopefully the story will be really good and sucks you in because just playing the dungeon crawl module it became a little tedious after the 2nd hour just spamming the same skills and rinse repeat the same tactic every room.

As your disagreement above about DA:O shows, what one man thinks is a masterpiece another will think sucks so they can't please everyone & nor should they try!

I don't think he's saying everyone feels the same, I think he's just saying that's the case for himself.
I do hope they can iron out the bugs so people like me can be proved wrong and get to enjoy the game in it's full glory and everyone seems to find something they like from it.

Final head start at the weekend prior to launch on Tuesday, had access to the single player mode which was quite enjoyable from what I played.
The DM mode is still my main draw to this & that seems to be getting regular improvements so I'm happy so far, can't wait till it goes live!

I will probably pick this up at a later date, due to the fact that there are too many games coming out these next few weeks and won't have enough time to play them all. I really want to give D:OS another shot and try to complete it since the new addition is out soon.

I have D:OS but I stopped playing it to wait for the enhanced edition as I found it slow going playing coop with a friend & am hoping that the new version speeds the game up a little.

There was a addon/ mod on the steam workshop that did just that iirc it was called andy's essentials, but I believe it was taken down by the creator due to issues that he didn't have the time to fix. I only used it briefly on a new save just to test it out and it did seem to solve a lot of the pacing issues I found with the game.

I have no idea why but I'm struggling to get into it.

I loved Wastelands 2, Divinity Original Sin, Dragon Age Origins, Shadowrun series) Witcher series - but having trouble enjoying this one & can't quite put my finger on why.

Because it doesn't have any depth to it and even combat is dull, loot is pretty crap as well and the skills are meh.

I don't agree with this opinion myself, think you may be unfairly comparing it to other games, I have enjoyed what I have played so far but then a lot of RPGs tend to divide the audience for instance not everyone holds Dragon age origin in the same high regard as seem to!

Nope I'm judging it on the actual game itself and not comparing it to any other game. If I had to rate it I'd give it a 5/10, not terrible, but not great either.

Well judging a game that is not out, on playing part of the content when you have not played the whole game seems legit I take it all back :P

You don't need to play a game to the very end to get an idea of how it's going to pan out, also for those that pre-ordered we've had access to the campaign for the past few days.

I just don't find the game that good for the reasons given previously, if you like then good for you but it just wasn't for me.
