Yet again ive made the mistake of hammering a game before the tournie, I'm now sick of this game :D

Fully unlocked apart from the 250 points for 1000 career points, which I cant be bothered to replay for. To be honest When you play ranked matches you realise just how good some people have got on this in a short time. I Have 60 gold stars and get totally whupped by players who play a perfect risk shot every time.

Can't see me playing this again so its gotta go. Roll on june when moto comes out ;)

I don't remember any lag online when I played the first Top Spin (though admittedly I only played a few times). I do remember people quitting on me when I was beating them, then one guy hammering me completely. Still, it was the hammering I enjoyed the best, certainly taught me a lot that enabled me to be even better.

I played a lot, i was quite good, but the lag just seemed to hit at the wrong time and 2 S controllers later i gave up for the good of my wallet :( Why can't they make pads like the Ps2 one :( I prefer the x-box controllers but i darent touch pro evo on it for fear of breaking the damn things, whereas the ps2 controllers could take huge amounts of punishment, never had one pack up on me and i used to throw them at walls as hard as i could, stamp on them repetedly in annoyance :D

Will invest in Topspin soon, and hope that my pads can take it :D

i seem to be rubbish against any player in the Top 15, im ranked 13th atm with only about 30 stars i think, and not long into season 2.

Any tips? they just seem to abuse me

Its just not consistent mate, as I said I got the top 15 and was the same. In the slams they ate me alive, but say roddick in the masters I could beat 3-0 3-0.

Where as my mate won everything for 2 years running without having to re-load. Every tournie he won. Yet when we played created player against created player, I kicked him off the court.

Strange. I also had no problems against the big names, soem made up rank 28 would give me hell in the slams, while federer would keep hitting the net.

I didnt like the AI for this one at all.

me and rp2000 had 2 amazing matches last night, i won both, but they were extremelly tight. i had my service game broken for the 1st time, and then a 2nd. so well played mate

managed to get past first round of Grand Slam, got Blake now.

Gave it a rest and played some Tomb Raider instead :)

...s'pose i should gt back to Oblivion at some point too.

IMHO 5 sets for the slams is too much, i'm just thankfull they didnt make it 6 games too.

The slams become a slog.

The majors, 3 matches with 3 sets was about right.

I need to play a few other people online to try and improve. Was a good couple of games. I may be on in a bit if anyone wants a game

rp2000

Got this as well as Tomb Raider today, will be playing through the single player some tonight and tomorrow, will happily play some of you online soon :)

somehow I managed to come out tesco with this as well :) only went in for king kong on DVD and some shampoo :D

thought it was difficult as hell at first, played it for a few hours last night and im really gettin ginto it now. although the single player A.I can be very frustrating.

anyone who fancies practicing on me feel free.

If the manual actually told you it was 5 years I couldve got the 1000.

It does say in the manual you only have 5 years :p

Right, my impressions after a good few hours on it - it rocks! I'm into my 2nd season in career mode, only got about 30 stars, but was ranked 21st by the end of year one, having won all the minors, the one major I could play, and got beaten in the semi's of the Paris Masters by Carlos Moya (on a final set tie break, after beating Coria in the previous round). Currently playing in the Australian Open, and face Moya again in the semi-final. The quarter final match was ace, went 2 sets down against someone in the mid 30's rank wise, and he completely had my number. I changed my game slightly, and finally got to grips with his service game, and ended up winning in 5 sets. Need a break now as it's too late to play Moya in the semi, that could easily be 5 sets as well.

Maybe it's the fact I played Top Spin a hell of a lot, but I'm not finding the top seeds as impossible as some others have mentioned here. Even though that have over 60 gold stars compared to my pitiful amount, the *only* match I've lost was that one against Moya (which could easily have gone my way in the tie break). I suspect that may change though, if I manage to beat Moya I'll face Hewitt or Federer in the final!

Its not the top seeds that are the problem, not when I played it was the high seeded made up players. Federer was so easy it wasnt worth the game.

You will see that you have 30 stars now but when you have 60 gold the matches you play will be no different to the ones you are having now. Federer has something like 75 gold but you wait to see how easy he is. He has one shot, the cross court backhand.

Admittedly I must have missed the 5 year part, can't check as my copy is long gone :)

Aye, the made up players have given me some fantastic matches (such as the 5 set match I mentioned), but I'll be putting a good few hours on it tonight so I'll see how I go. Only 2 wins away from my first Grand Slam title, would be great to win it so early in my career.

I bet by the time you have finished your career you will be sick of it. The trouble with career is you dont get any advance shots until you have 60 stars from training. Which if you play the matches for wins, takes a while.

So you get into season 4 before you get advanced shots, by then you wont even need them. Every point is pretty much the same. The guy serves, you hit it diagonally across he returns and you hit it to the other corner. All by using the topspin button. Your own serve doesnt even matter that much, infact if I was to play it through again I would recommend 1 star on service. I actually found the best serve to beat the AI was to safe serve at very low power. To 140 mph serve caused me more problems on the return than it did them in the first place.

i find most games ok, and anyone over rank 25 really. im currently 18th with about 36 stars, just won 3-1, 4-3, 4-3 against Vasquez or something in first round of Wimbledon, and i got Federer in the next round, i saved and quit though cos i dont wanna get smoked! i pretty much just use safe shots cos my other shots always go outta bounds. So wanna get some practice in, wanna be undefeated!!! Only in my second season :)

I had an exhibition match as Federer last night, and the advanced shots don't bother me. As a tennis fan, it's the great rallies which make this game great. I've had the AI running all over the court chasing shots, before finally putting a great cross court shot away, and they have done the same to me. I don't feel it cheats at all, as whenever they put away a fantastic shot I can't get near, I just do the same in return. Plus, as I mentioned above, even when someone seems to be far better than you, thinking on your feet can help you adapt your game and pull out a win.

So far for me, this is better than Top Spin was on the Xbox. Before I get too involved in it tonight I want to sit down and plan exactly what stars I want my guy to have, then I don't have to think about what training to do, I can just aim for the ones that give me the right stars.

yay i beat federed (number2 currently in my career thing) 3-0, 3-1 and 4-2, but in3rd round of wimbledon i now got roddick whos ranked number1 :(

/edit

just beat Roddick

4-3
3-0
3-0

:D

Thats far too sensible :D

I got to about 50 odd stars before I twigged I only had a few left, maxed out on power and that was everything just about gone.

Think Im just at the beginning of season 4, gained over 1000 career points, #1 in both rankings and its pretty much game over in terms of career. Can win hands down against the CPU, only time they win a game is if I simulate it. Think Im going to concentrate on the multiplayer now, unless there is a difficulty setting I havent noticed.

Great game though, certainly havent been disappointed with it.

The current belief from scouring places online, for stars. Is :

Stamina 5
Speed 10
Reflex 5
Focus 1
Service 2
Fore and backhand 10 each
Volley 3
Spin 1
Presision 5
Power 8

But I will say that I had 10 presision and I was no more acurate than when I had 1.

To play online max speed is a must. Ive met two types of player online, the newb who rushes in with 5 stars and the total pro who leaves me wondering how the hell they are pulling off shots and getting to the ball :D
