*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

Pretty much the consumer stuff Nik, so camera's, routers, switches (POE switches would be nice), the access points etc.

Some popular competitors such as the rainforest have some items but the lead time can be quite large. I'd be most welcome of a UK distributor with shorter lead times!

Starting discussions about listing Ubiquiti gear. Is there any products in particular that people want to see so I can prioritise?

Nice!

USG
ERL
ERX

AP-AC-Lite (this will be the hottest seller)
AP-AC-LR
AP-AC-Pro

Cloudkey

Unifi Switches

FYI, they are shipped to the UK with EU power leads. They'll need C5 UK power leads.

The Edge Router X is a good upgrade from a Hub 5. Definitely more reliable but significantly more complicated to setup.

You can also power the Edge Router X with the injector from the AC-LR and then pass it through to supply the AP.

Cheers.

What details need setting up on the ERX? I've done a Google search but mostly brings up CLI configs, would rather do it through the GUI if possible.

On my Asus router I can use mac filtering to block devices from connecting to 2.4GHz since most devices aren't very smart about staying on my 5GHz network, from reading the Unifi stuff doesn't support mac filtering at all?

It has band steering. If you enable that, devices capable of 5GHz as well as 2.4GHz will be pushed onto 5GHz regardless of their initial preference.

The newer firmware for these devices mean that unless you have a very specific requirement, you can do everything in the GUI. They even have a setup wizard now, so you're up and running within 2 minutes.

The WAPs would probably be the most popular/useful for you to sell. As would the CCTV.

You'd probably do quite well out of all the Unifi range (well maybe not the 48 port switches).

Easy enough. Even easier if you're either decomissioning the current VM Or can change it's IP address.

What I did recently was:

- Grab a backup out of your current controller
- Shut down the VM (or change IP address and disable the Unifi service if keeping the VM)
- Fire up CK
- Set CK IP address to match what the VM was using
- Restore the backup from the VM into the CK

That worked fine for me.

Thanks, no issues running it as a local only controller?

The UniFi G3. I have to admit I haven't got that far in the planning; I just bought them before Christmas when I was on an Ubiquiti splurge, as they were reasonably well discounted. They won't be going up until the building work is finished so I'm not really in a rush.

I've read about people getting them setup on a NAS, I'd look to do something similar I guess, using a VM if possible.

That said, it might just be significantly easier to buy the NVR.
