*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

Starting discussions about listing Ubiquiti gear. Is there any products in particular that people want to see so I can prioritise?

Go for the boring ones, be careful with your product listings, list only the features that are *actually available* because consumer protection here is better than US :p

Of course it's hard to tell because Ubiquiti put things in the specs at the beginning that never exist/work.

Don't bother with cameras (ask a gen1 owner how they feel)

Don't bother with mFi, it's maintenance only for software

Things like the AC-Pro/LR/Lite should be all you need really, perhaps edgerouter.

I'm looking at a Gateway, a POE Switch and a couple of AC AP's for expanding our infrastructure when moving to a new office.

Do I just need to purchase the Gateway, Switch and AC AP's and then I can host the controller on my own VM? or is there something else I need to purchase as part of this?

Just srarted to set up my system, and the first shock is this:

Billion 8800AXL
Code:
Max: Upstream rate = 20175 Kbps, Downstream rate = 103477 Kbps
Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 16996 Kbps, Downstream rate = 79999 Kbps

HG612
Code:
Max:	Upstream rate = 19922 Kbps, Downstream rate = 62764 Kbps
Path:	0, Upstream rate = 16996 Kbps, Downstream rate = 53850 Kbps

Quite an eye opener that the BT box is so much less! Without the 10m RJ11 I'm sure it was similar, but for now I'll be using the Billion.

edit : This is nothing to do with the router of course, just a quick update pre-router installation.

The only thing you might need is UK power leads as the leads they ship with have EU plugs.

They may have finally started shipping UK targeted stock, but I've installed a quite a few UniFi APs over the last 4/5 years and they've all come with EU cables in the box and a separate UK power lead provided by the supplier.

Wonderful thanks, so I don't need to pay for the controller at all if we want to self host?

And looking at the edge routers instead of the USG, anyone got any thoughts on this?

If you're not bothered about the stats in the controller software or being able to admin via the controller then the edge routers are superior in software features.

Well finally finished mating the Billion as a modem, and X as a router and a AC LR as wireless.

As with all these things, it took the best part of 10 hours and numerous hard reset and yet in the end it works.

Will see how stable everything is now it's all been done form the bottom up.

What issues did you have? The only issue i really had when installing the controller was a Java problem.

Using the Billion as a bridge only was the start of the issue, so I ended up having to factory default then all. For some reason the LR then throught a wobbler, no idea why but it's old static IP wouldn't change. Soft factory reset wouldn't reset so had to get the ladder out to hard reset the LR.

Once that was done, I reset it and it all, then went in X>LR>Billion setup order and jobs a good 'un. That's when as per norm all the CCTV cameras decided to go missing.

The controller was faultless.

I was wondering if anyone has some information on how best to sort this issue out.

I have a NAS that runs on 192.168.1.200, using 8000 for http and 8001 for https.

I used to have remote access without much issue on the Billion, so I can watch the CCTV etc from home.

For some reason I'm getting stuck in making this work with the X. The EZ-Router section of my NAS errors with : No UPnP/NAT-PMP router found. Please check your network environment first.

I couldn't find the UPnP so using the wizard by means of factory default I selected it.

I'm not 100% confident I opened the 8000/8001 ports correctly, so if anyone has a quick guide that would be great!

Firewall/NAT>Port Forwarding
1.Tick Show Advanced Options
2. Select the interface that is your WAN port
3. Tick "Hairpin NAT" (allows you to access the forwarded port from another computer behind the same router using your public IP as well as your internal IP) Tick Enable auto firewall.
4. Select your LAN interface if you want the port forwarding on a single interface or select "Switch0" for the port to be forwarded on all the ports that are part of the switch.
5. Add Rule Original Port and Forward to port the same, Protocol is probably TCP, add the IP of the NAS
6. Repeat 5 for the other port.
