Looks like my USG PRO 4 is dead - doesn't stay switched on for longer than around 20 minutes then simply dies, started last night. For now replaced with ISP provided D Link whilst I decide what to replace it with ...

Anything worth troubleshooting? Tried the obvious (ie. power cables) and blew out some dust from the back that hadn't been cleared for years in case it was overheating

UDM or UDM SE.

Any lights at all on the front? White/blue light on the square indicator?

Have you tried a full hardware reset (paper clip in the hole for 10 seconds)?

If you’ve tried all that and it still doesn’t work then yes, you’ll need to find an alternative. Or just keep using your ISP router…

It can power on like normal, works fine. But within 20 minutes … it just turns off, all lights off. I did try a full reset already

Randomly started during the night, hasn’t managed to stay switched on for more than 20 minutes or so since.

I want to upgrade my home network. Do I buy the dream machine se or the gateway professional?

I have one connection but wouldn't mind a backup but might as well use it all the time so load balancing would be nice.

One is just a gateway and requires a separate network controller application, the other has it bundled in along with protect etc.

Without going through the entire thread, I have a couple of UAP-AC-LR access points and I think one may be a bit iffy. If I want to enable WiFi 6, is it simply a case of unplugging the possibly dodgy one, plugging in a new unit and adopting it? Is there an equivalent WiFi 6 access point?

I would 'forget' the old one from the network application first, then plug in the new one and adopt.

Do you want WiFi 6 or WiFi 6e? I think there is a WiFi 6 one which is the newer model of yours for around £100 (U6 Lite).

Dunno. Newest devices here at the moment are my three year old iPhone 13 PM, AW U2 and my M2 MacBook Air. But as time progresses, more devices will support it.
6e is expensive, for a normal home user I would say it is not necessary.

There's also a WiFi 6 LR AP which is closer to £180 which I think is the actual replacement for yours. U6 Long-Range.

The pro is also a worthy successor and is slightly cheaper.

If I remember the LR is pretty big compared to the pro and the lite which is smaller again.

The differences are:
LR is 4x4 on both 5ghz and 2.4ghz
Pro is 4x4 on 5ghz and 2x2 on 2.4ghz
Lite is 2x2 on both 5ghz and 2.4ghz

You don’t really need 4x4 on 2.4 ghz (IMO of course), anything that has a high throughput should be on 5ghz.

2.4 is pretty much down to IOT stuff these days.

Moving home soon and thinking of moving on from USG4 + need more than 8 port switch.

Looking at UDMSE+Pro24 switch (maybe PoE, need to think hard and be realistic on this lol) and 2x AP
Anyone know how hot these two can run and the sort of noise generation?

Have the option of attic/basement/office placement for them. Office obviously ideal for ease of access but concerned about noise and adding to heat in summers (although free heat in winter perhaps)
