UNAS-Pro has arrived, I am just waiting for the drives now :(

I would comment on it but it looks the same as my UNVR-Pro
How are you planning on setting up storage? I mean it looks nice, but it’s not exactly giving us anything significant in terms of functionality that I can see, and R5 leaves me cold with todays drive capacities.

I'm going to use it in basic protection mode with 4 WD Gold 16TB drives for now, which gives me more than enough to move everything from my Synology onto it.

I'm still waiting for the last WD Gold 16TB to arrive, which should be due Monday. It's doing a resync because I only got it up and running on a single drive and then popped the others in.

It's been fairly straightforward to use, well once you understand the users but the Time Machine for Mac is very easy to set up. In terms of power use, it seems to be very a efficient little unit drawing around ~40w at the mo once it's all settled in I can pull some more detailed state from it. I will need to look at a backup solution for it though, which is much the same as the Synology be that Azure / AWS or other Cloud Storage.

I'll be building another NAS to replace the Syno, which will be flash which seems to be a lot harder than I first thought due to MB sizing / short depth rack cases / PCIe lanes etc... but what this does allow me to do is get rid of a load of old 12TB WD Golds and a Synology DX517

Looks like this is a simple signal strength issue rather than an ap issue. The speeds look fine for the signal strength.

That said, is the wifi speed actually an issue in the real world, are you getting and drop outs etc on the devices at the edge of its range? I guess what I’m trying to say, is there really any real world benefit of buying more kit?

P.S. im not one to talk, I’ve got 3 APs, one middle of the house, one on the back of the house (external) and one in my garage!

That's the reason I let it be over the last few years as 300ishmb weren't too bad but tbh it's always annoyed me the upload has always been so much better than the download even standing just below the current AP.

However it's time for me to get another AP and I'm torn between u6 enterprise or u7 pro max.... Maybe I can convince the wife we need to e7 :D

I'm tempted by WiFi purely because there is zero interference none of my neighbours have it yet so the more of my devices that can use it the better.

I really like the Mesh form factor though so hoping for a U7 Mesh.

The u7 pro max keeps getting left off the ea firmware updates so I would be passing at moment

Are there any best practice guides for my ucg max?

Also, having issues getting Plex working outside my network if anyone has any tips?

I’ve tried port forwarding, I’ve enabled upnp and I’ve added a static ip address to my brsk package so the Plex public ip matches everywhere else now

UNAS-Pro has been installed in the rack and given a bit of a clean-up, it's early days yet but the UNAS just works transfers are in the 400/600MB/s region so I am pretty impressed tbh

The best part is I am down quite a bit on power compared to the Synology, I will give it a bit more time to bed in before giving my final thoughts on it.

Rack 2024 setup, a few bits will change in 2025 :D:cry:

Lovely setup there, whats connected to the 25gb ports on the Pro-Agg at the top, I am assuming its a Pro-Agg.
The UDM-Pro Max is connected to at the moment, foreshadowing what it may be replaced with. :D

The UniFi 25Gb DAC cables have the blue pull lab on them.

I'll never be able to get mine that tidy, with the Pro Max I need some devices on the 3rd set of 8 ports for the 2.5GB, cables will be criss crossing all over.

Did you only use your Synology for storage? Use mine mostly for Plex.

I use QNAP and really want to replace with the UI NAS but need DLNA support as bare min.

Also wondering if they are going to release a 4 drive version, seems the current one is based on the 7 drive cctv unit of which there is a 4 drive 1u unit available.

1gbps in line of sight and 400mbps minimum would be brilliant. This is why I tempted to go with the u6 enterprise as generally I rarely hear anyone say anything bad about.

I've tried different channels and even tried the DFS channels but still the same. Its possible I have defective unit but i lived with it over the last few years. This time I'll test the hell out of my new AP and return if there are any issues instead of taking too long trying to fix it or hope a future firmware will fix it.
Yeah i get 500-odd with my old NanoHD; line of sight. With channel 52, 160 channel width. So something is up.

Might get the U7 pro instead and use it with my u6 lr.

My biggest annoyance is my upload is fine and I can get up to 850ish under line of sight. would have thought if anything the upload would be an issue

I know a lot of people get off on the Apple clean asthetic. But i can't, it's too clean for me. I would have to customise it in some way, to add some colour.

I used it for all sorts of stuff, docker, iSCSI, Plex, and Storage. However, as it was one of the Xeon CPU (XS Mode) Syno's it was pretty rubbish for Plex.

I’ve been looking to move from a QNAP TS-873A to a Synology unit. I originally ordered a 1821+ a week ago, but cancelled it.

Waiting to see what Synology do Q1 25 if anything.

Storage wise, NFS, iSCSI and SMB atm. I do like the look of the backup apps on Synology, but could run a veeam instance instead on the proxmox box.
