*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

Fits like a glove, awkward getting it up there. Really impressed with the quality for the price.

Got to add a mains socket next to it. Then reroute and extend all the network cables. NAS can sit in the bottom.
I was thinking of moving the ONT in to the garage as well at the bottom of my shelving bit I think I'll leave it in the under stairs cupboard. Less likely to get knocked. Everything currently is on the other side of the wall so not far to go.

I need to find something I can screw to the wall that I can then cable tie/velcro E cables to to keep them tidy.

I'm going to complete a side upgrade from UDM-P to Cloud Gateway Max and then USW24-PoE to the Switch-Flex 2.5 PoE. Will look to replace the U6 lite with U7 something too!

Chaps,

Any guidance on AP configuration? I was just trying to set a static IP but looks like it wants a gateway, subnet mask, DNS etc... I haven't done anything as I need it to work at the moment (at work). I assume I set the gateway as the UDM but does it really need DNS?

I have a bunch of other settings I haven't touched too. Is there any optimal config I should be aiming for? 3 APs with sufficient coverage.

It HUGELY depends.

Auto Channel planning with Ubiquiti sucks it only really likes using Band A.

If you have an Android phone use Analiti to look at what channels you should use, all APs should use different channels to local APs.

Your AP probably doesn’t really need a static IP.

More channel width = more speed if your devices support it.

You’ll get 900+mb with a 160 channel width on 5ghz.

OK, nothing to solve for atm so will leave it as is.

Definitely doesn't but DHCP keeps giving it IPs within my self-defined ranges/discontiguous IPs so it's just a bit annoying. I have reservations for everything else so annoying these things pop up everywhere/move about.

Don't run two DHCP servers?

Or put the APs and all UniFi devices on their own network.

The UDM handles DHCP --- not sure how it does DHCP for the APs but the settings are different to normal devices. Don't want to over complicate things - it says I can set a static, just trying to understand if I need a DNS/Gateway and why it would be different to regular reservations.

---

Is there any updates on Protect? I have it setup to record my Reolink cameras but it is impossible to use as there are no alerts to help locate footage, and browsing isn't super responsive.

They need gateway and DNS to pull down updates.

Latest Protect GA AFAIK is 5.1.87.

Guys, I have a question regarding STP Priorities. Any advice would be very gratefully received!

When I look at the topology of my network, I get the message "Multiple switches have the same STP Priority. Reassign priorities to ensure network loop protection." I have clicked through to their support page, but am somewhat confused...

This is my topology:

Now I understand that the root switch should have a priority of 0, the switches in the next layer a priority of 4096, and so on. However, their graphic doesn't represent my network, as I have 2 root switches. This is theirs:

So, what priority should I be assigning the Loft Switch and Living Room Switch?

Each step back increase priority, ie those further away from root device with highest priority.

Its really only an issue if you start adding resilient links, ie loops.

EDIT: this is obviously for home use, under enterprise deployment you would take link capacity into account.

OK, I get this, but it doesn't account for the fact I have 2 root switches (by their graphic). Would I assign both priority 0? Or is one more of a root switch than the other?

Whilst this probably won't change anything on my network per-se, it's always good to have a better understanding of this (along with getting rid of the info message of course!)
