The hole centres match the spacing on our outlets - UK and European single gang boxes have hole spacing of 60.3mm and 60mm respectively. Images of how it goes together are here

I’ve searched the UI site and this thread but failing to answer this:

How do the in-wall APs mount to a UK socket? I have 1-gang wall boxes I put in in most rooms with either single or double faceplates for Cat5e/RJ45 (the modular type). Am I right that I could just remove the face plate to reveal the wall box, terminate the cable in an RJ45 connector and screw on the AP backplate onto the wall box and the AP would mount properly without leaving gaps?
Yup exactly that.

I stuck one in a couple of months ago where I had a regular single socket sized faceplate/backbox.

Took the regular faceplate off, and was actually super lazy and just kept the keystone jack as it was and had a teeny tiny cable I plugged into the jack, and the other end into the u6-iw, all stuffed in the backbox.

U6-IW mounting plate just screwed on using the existing faceplate/backbox mounting holes.

Have found an issue with the new zone based rules. Previous speed limit rules were migrated to QOS, but the time schedule isn’t honoured.

Not idea when trying to restrict kids on a family member setup. Looks like others on community site have prob. Logged a ticket earlier in the week, but no response.

Morning. Need some advice please.

Currently got a UDM which does the controller and WiFi for the downstairs. Two UniFi 8 port switches and a nanoHD in the ceiling upstairs. Currently on BT 900/110. Thinking of switching to CF 2.5gb. I have Cat6 to the desktop (which also does 2.5g) upstairs.

I would be quite happy to keep the UDM if it had 2.5g support which it doesn’t. So either get a UXG-max (control it with the UDM and turn off the NAT on it) or replace it entirely (my preferred option but more expensive). UCG-max for the router and controller but what WiFi AP would you recommend that can replace the UDM (mounting to the ceiling downstairs will be difficult)?

I think it is a replace entirely situation.

If you need the same coverage as the UDM, the ‘mesh’ form factor are probably the direct replacement, otherwise an ‘in wall’ is the next closest alternative.

They’ll both need POE.

UCG Max wouldn't that be on the slow side for 2.5gb, it says 1.5Gbps with IPS so without it should be okay, maybe.

As I can finally order full fibre I am looking at getting Unifi based setup to use instead of the ISP router is the equipment below all that I would need? I already have a Qnap switch but it is not PoE enabled hence the injector in the list below.

  • Cloud Gateway Max
  • Ubiquiti 802.3af PoE Injector
  • U7 Pro AP or similar

Exactly what I have on a 1Gb symmetrical FTTP connection, works a treat. Also is 2.5Gb ready when those packages land with my altnet provider.

It might a bit of an odd question. But to the other rooms in my flat I have powerline networking so if 1 AP is not enough. Could I put a second ap powered by an injector in another part of the house and plug its ethernet cable into the powerline adapter in that room.

Also so it ready for the future am I best going for one of the Wifi 7 AP's?

You could, but you’re still constrained by the quality and speed of your flats electrical wiring and how much those power line plugs can carry bandwidth-wise for you. But it’ll certainly work.

WiFi 7 is entirely up to you if you have many capable client devices or plan to in the near future? Personally I did as the cost difference for a U6 Pro and U7 Pro wasn’t a lot.

I have most of my cable runs sorted, many hours spent under the floorboards, that was fun.
Ran out of cable so waiting for more for the runs in the garage for the cameras and lights and a doorbell still no idea exactly where and how to mount that best.

As I cannot mount the ap on the ceiling is it ok to put it on a wall? Or should I get the U7-WALL instead?
You can place them upside down on the ground floor if that’s easier. I have a U6 Pro under my stairs sitting on a 3D printed mount that covers my whole house without issues

As others have said they are designed to radiate out of the dome. You decide if that will mess things up in your setup. I've seen a lot of praise for the in-wall AP though.

I'm tempted by the U7 In Wall but on a desk stand I imagine it would be fine facing in towards the house at the far end. I'd like WiFi 7 in the Livingroom mostly.
