*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

Thanks for the generous offer, but with my current post count (and rate) I don't think I'll have MM access anytime soon.
I'm also likely to be moving in a few months so I was also thinking I'm probably better to hold off and go straight to fibre.
Ahh sorry I did not notice your post count

Out with the old and in with the new.....

Got some QSFP28 to SFP28 cables from Aliexpress (I know!) and they're not working. I've ordered the SFP Wizard to see if it can pick them up.

Tried Mikrotik to UniFi, and also direct to a host and the links never come up.

If that's on the UNAS-Pro-8, I have a pair of Ubiquiti DAC-SFP28-3M to the Aggr Pro and those work without an issue.

Part of the delivery was a G5 Pro, replacing a G5. No real reason other than the sale price. Image is much nicer, better FOV, and now that it's dark it's really showing up the old camera.

Currently it's Mikrotik to ESX hosts, but they also don't work connecting it to my Agg and Agg Pro switches. I'm hoping I can reprogram them, because sending the cables back will be a faff and expensive.

That's a solid improvement over the normal G5

Isn't the G6 a slightly better (AI detections) G5 Pro and otherwise the same IQ and the same price?
It wasn’t in the sale at the time, the G5 Pro had a nice saving. For outdoor cameras I’m not really after the latest and greatest, if anything they are a visual deterrent.

Are you confident that the HDD will be happy with the temperatures in the loft, both min and max?
Confident? No. RAID is a backup, right? Right?

In all seriousness I've had the NVR in the loft for over a year, albeit it's using SSDs, and I've had two other NAS's in there but only 2 drive devices. I'll likely move the UNAS downstairs into my office once I have a larger rack.

Installed the final two G6 Turrets, G6 Entry (standard) and a PoE Chime yesterday..

Some notes
1. The G6 turrets have a stupid mounting system, one grub screw to hold the turret to the base and to tighten the turret in position, however for some reason mine are not tightening that well, so not sure if they'll move over time.
2. The chime ceiling mount is genius, I placed it in the hallway next to a U7 Pro access point and it looks nice and neat (Cabling was a mare though.. dragging another cable up to the loft from there was a bit of a PITA as I couldn't use the existing holes so had to create a new path.
3. The G6 Entry was far easier to install once I realised my uPVC front door has some small edge trim that simply lifts off and can hide the cable to the top of the door and I luckily have a porch/wood work that allows me to hide the cable all the way to the soffit, then in through the back of one of the G6 turret mounts and in to the loft..

Overall, that's 1 x G6 Bullet, 2 x G6 Turrets and a G6 Entry and with continous recording it's estimating 24 days with the 8TB NVME.. I'm also archiving all events to my NAS so I'll have clips of any motion or AI detections for several months.

Silly me for trusting auto-neg. I've manually set the link speed and all is good. I wonder if reprogramming them to a different vendor will allow auto-neg to work since it's working with another breakout cable.

Try it with fec disabled

Interesting, that seemed to work, but I don't know if that's because the interface was up before. It's a homelab, so probably don't need FEC and IIRC it can cause issues but it's been a long time since I've been in the weeds of DC networking.

I recently had the same problem in work between a nexus tor switch and vxrail switch, new 25gb sfp's as well. I was prepping to rma the lot but found they worked without issue on a ios xe switch so did a little troubleshooting
