marders are the way forwards tbh, sit and snipe at long range and rack up those kill points, will take you a while to get to tiger xp but remember when you use the tiger you want other 5.7's to accompany it

Are german tanks super crap compared to Russian / US equiv? Seems like I have to pump 5 - 10 rounds into most tanks to kill them, even when aiming for weakspots and yet enemies manage to frequently 1 or 2 shot me when when angling / side scraping etc.

The nazi stuff suffers from a lack of angled armour vs the Russian and American stuff. Also, they had a habit of upgrading the guns on things and not doing much to improve the armour until MUCH later, when you get shirtzen (armour skirts and turret hats) that add spaced armour.
Don't get too discouraged, though, as it gets better later, and you will figure out how to use each tank to its strengths. Take a look at the armour and x-ray views on each tank so you know where weak spots are.
The early American stuff is dross. But once they get Shermans then they become rock hard.

major bonus!!!!!!!!!!!!

Client Update 06.05.2015 (1.70.1945.65)

Friendly fire against allies has been disabled in ground forces Arcade Battles. Aiming at an ally will result in your crosshairs turning blue, which will disable your vehicle’s armament whilst it is aimed at your ally. Shell ricochet can still damage cause damage to allies.

That will be handy. I've shot 2 allies in the last 2 days, genuinely by accident (them crossing my path whilst I aim at enemy), and I imagine it can be a little annoying.

Slowly getting the grips with the PzIV F2 (Glass Edition); shoot then hide seems to be the way forward. Not like the Russian tanks which you can just wander through the enemy lines picking off others with no care in the world.

Stopped using ACPR and started using APC rounds and this happened:

I guess that was where i was going wrong :)

Hi guys new to this, started playing Ground Forces (US) out of protest for WoT.

Can I ask what does the green named player on the team mean? I also saw a recent update vid and it mentioned command binocular view but I cant seem to find anything other than "V" for aim down the barrel. Is that my only choice in Arcade?

Cheers

Yep, I read into the different types of ammo a couple of weeks ago. Changed it in game and it made a huge difference, especially in the Russian tanks :).

Welcome, and good luck with the US tanks. I really struggled with the early ones as they are quite poor.

I'm no expert so someone may correct me on this and the following question, but I believe the green players are your squad mates. You may not actually be in a squad, but the game will automatically assign you to one in a match, for that match.

Right-click gives you a slightly zoomed view, but it's only top and gun sight view in Arcade.

As molinari said, greeen indicates your squad member - so if you're in a match with say, 3 other OCUK'ers you'll see 3 other green planes or tanks.

For all other battles, you get randomly assigned a squad-mate. For planes, it's pretty pointless but for tanks it can sometimes be great if you work together and reduce each other's repair times, but other times you just get a complete idiot who has no idea of how to play as a team member.

I quite like the early American tanks. :) It's a shame they only have the reserve tank and now an utterly terrible machine-gun only tank at 1.0, compared to the Russians who get 5 tanks at 1.0 armed with 45mm or 20mm cannon. (Russian bias? What Russian bias comrade!)

But with a 1.3 BR there's quite a few nice nippy little tanks that pack a reasonable punch from the 37mm gun, and can often use their speed for flanking attacks.

(Not played American reserves since the latest patch, so that info could be total doggy doo-doo now, given how everything is out of whack with the new penetration mechanics)

Thanks molinari and matt_fsr, I didnt realise it auto-assigned me a platoon member I just thought the green player was some kind of team commander? lol I never paid it much attention but will bear that in mind thanks.

Im well into Tier2 after spending all day Tuesday (day off) and last night on it. I use the M3 Stuart, M4A1 (i think?) and the M10 TD.

It's a shame the US tree seems to lack vehicle diversity, having both M4 Shermans as mediums and heavies isn't massively appealing but needs must I guess.

In options you can assign a key to both driver view and commander view. Driver view is fairly pointless, but some people like the option. I've not worked out how to use the 'auto driver' function where you're supposed to be able to set your driver performing a maneuver and then concentrate in gunner position.

edit: 'Auto driver' feature is still in dev.

I feel the need to get my hands on the M18 murder tank on Mr Boycey's recommendation (I've also noted that in sim and realistic battles it's a bit of a monster) anyone feel like a bit of squadding this evening for some sim/realistic battles at say 3.3-3.7 tanks??
