****** Official World of Warships Thread ******

If anyone is at tier 9 then I would advise waiting until 1st January before moving up to tier 10.

This will then give you 1 whole year to do the missions to get a unique module for that ship. The missions take much effort and time.

If you get a tier 10 ship now then you only have till the end of the year to do these arduous missions.

You sure they didnt get disabled or perm disabled?

When i jump in nowadays i find myself playing the Zao a lot. Its such a good ship and super easy to get 120k + damage games
It could be that you tubes were disabled. Alternatively you might have had a bad internet connection.

Ah yes Humbug random Matchmaker is worse in WOT i forgot it was MM plus pay2win ammo that i hated. The game puts people with decent ability in with brand new players and when i came back in tanks i went right to tier 8 via a premium tank and cut my teeth there.

I would buy a Tier 8 ship but not go right into battle again this time and ruin someone elses games so it seems they both share this problem. But as for this matchmaker it is skill based then you say in random games too? What sort of numbers and modes would i be playing then in tanks its 15v15 and i think Ranked MM is 7v7 but i dislike small 7v7 to be honest. Thanks for the feedback too chaps i reckon after i get wow classic sorted i will get this downloaded it must be ok if you all still talk about it. :)

It is a fun game, yes i still play it despite my quibbles with it, premium ships are better ships, not massively but if you know how to use them they give you an advantage, i don't know about premium ammo, in wows you get flags, those flags give you perks like making your opponents guns disperse more, or yours less, visibility, manoeuvrability... as well as extra XP and so on., you can buy them, or win them.

I don't know how they do matchmaking, its not skill based or random, i seem to be permanently at least 1 tier above my own and that's not down to skill. I can have a good round but as i'm sure it does in wot it depends on your team mates, if you get people running off on their own or people running scared as soon as they are fired upon you might as well count them out because they are not contributing in a meaningful way, if that crap goes on and your opponents are organised its over in minutes.

Higher tier battles are 10+ each side, watchout for cloaked Destroyers they are like invisible assassins, and don't think because you're in a big fat Battleship you're immune to cruisers, while it takes you 30 seconds to reload some of those cruisers can do it in 4, they will run rings round you and rapid fire your fat arse out of the water if you're not careful.

Thanks so if i wanted a premium what are the OP choices? I know it is called Warships also but historically i think carriers and subs were just better weapon platforms so i was going to go with that meta actually. In Tanks i went with the Superheavy meta and that did not work infact it engraged me more mobile people could punch through my "superheavy" armor by using a premium ammunition with greater penetration values. Historically Superheavy tanks died like Dreadnoughts and Battleships to smaller lower profile tanks.

So i did not want to stick with the mets that died incase history repeats itsself ingame again, Would the T8 premium carrier be decent? Or would i want to look at a Battleship? Really i want something pretty OP no shame in asking whats OP right?

Edit will do thanks ^^^^^

I can only give you my limited experience.

I don't play carriers, i didn't like the game mechanics of them, at least at the time that i tried them, it was more 2D map gamplay, tho i think recently its changed a lot so it might be different.

I played a US premium ship recently, i think it was Colorado, i liked it, good ship, tier 7 or 8, good accuracy, hit hard at medium and long range unlike the tier 8 i own which is Bismark, really not good at all at long range as shell desperation is high and anything that does hit seems to ricochet, it seems to be a short to medium range brawler, 10KM or less you get a good hit with Bismark it hurts, i prefer not to get that close.

Different ship types for different play stiles, you will find your play stile, i actually like cruisers, i'm pretty good with judging how much to lead targets, the angle and direction of the target, you don't do a lot of damage with cruisers, its the high speed relentlessness of firing when you've got your aiming nailed down that gradually eats away at even the biggest Battleships, your manoeuvrability and narrow width gives you a lot of scope for avoiding incoming fire.

I've been grinding through the Russian BB line recently and my god they are stonk for bow on tanking... disgusting infact, at higher tiers only the Musashi and Yamato are a real threat to bow on tanking

Russian bias? Does the 2080ti destroy this? Hoping for 4k 120fps.

Also ty Humbug Carriers changed there was uproar about the change from rts to a more 3d hands on version. It looked cool thats what pulled me in that and torpedo subs. I will probably aim for three ships though no cruisers probably Carrier, Sub, Battleship is what i will stick to and pick out of them. I guess it depends on what out of those 3 have a really good premium.

Lol considering im bottle necked to **** by my CPU i get 80-85 fps, max everything with v sync and it runs smooth and looks as smooth as butter.

I was a reasonable decent carrier player pre-carrier rework (65% win rate is considered extremely good) but ive struggled a bit post re-work with CV's mainly as t8 and T10 have tonnes of AA cruisers where T6 and t4 is yolo free dmg and xp with CV's.

I highly recommend the Japanese Cruisers though as T8+ they are REALLY good fire starters and i rarely have a game in my Zao where i get less than 120k dmg. Russian BB are bow tanking stonk. Brit BB's are easy mode BB HE spam and anyone can do well in them

Additional if you want to discuss ship choices etc and what you would want to play let me know as ive hit Tier 10 for a fair few lines now and have bene playing since closed Beta so i can give you a reasonable overview of most of the ship lines and i have most of the remaining ones at tier 8/9

Cheers bud i guess Brit BB spam is like the Japanese Superheavy HE spam in that you point and click to win me and my mate platooned Type 5 superheavys lol. I like the Midway class of carrier it seems if i want a good carrier i must grind the line over buying a VIII premium and being content forever there. But the shop only sells Japan Carriers the Saipan and Kaga. I need to do some reading it does look like the best ships to buy are those IX like Jeanbart or maybe a Hood or something?

But if Saipan and Kaga suck i will grind Midway? Grind Submarine and buy a BB from the shop to make money to support my grind.

Midway is an interesting CV to play now days. The attack circle from the rocket planes is large compared to the japanese CV's. The Divebombers do stonk HE dmg and the torpedo bombers for the Midway drop 6 torps vs 2? for the Japanese but the midway torps do less damage compared and the torpedo bombers have a larger detection range on the US Cv's compared to Japanese so suprise strikes are harder as ships have move time to react with the US Cv's

Cool i think i will go Midway what cpu did you say was bottlenecking the 2080ti i have a 4790k (4770k @4.3) and will probably get a 2080ti next week.

I know the game has MSAA so i can if needed choose 8x Multisampling AA at 1080p 120hz or 4k 120hz but the fps drops hurt i have strobing over gsync so i like to overspec and maintain 120.0fps.

wows has a 75 FPS hard cap, you can change that by going to Drive:\WOWS\World_of_Warships_EU\res

edit 'engine_config'

I'm getting about 120 FPS, that's at 1440P with all graphics at the highest settings.

For very high refreshrates the game is quite CPU bottleneck'ish, its that single threaded performance thing, you can see one of my threads is at 84% with the rest not doing much, my GPU is at 98% and 120Hz is plenty so i'm not worried about it.
