** Official WoW Catalysm Alpha/Beta Thread **

What idiots? Do you know something the rest of us don't?

I assume he's guessing we were banned because of a few people being idiots, so the lot of us were kicked. I got a few responses from blizzard, basically saying that they won't tell me why I (we) was banned from the beta, and that it's a permanent ban from all testing of Blizzard products, and that they consider the matter closed so will not be providing any more help; ah well. No point really discussing it any more, nothing more we can do unless Colin manages to work some magic.

Glad we've got a few guys here in the beta though, I'm sure we'll all have questions for them! Liking the idea of the smaller talent trees too, less time spent worrying about if a1% increase here is better than 0.5% there, and more time playing, good move IMO!

I really don't know why you're all fussing to be honest, it's just early access to an unfinished game, you can't really rate it on an alpha release. There are plenty of details on websites as well if you're desperate.

Can we get this thread back on track please, it's supposed to be a discussion about the beta and instead has turned into a whinge about Blizzards NDA policy and lack of communication, lets be fair here, Colin wasn't meant to invite people from random forums and so Blizz took away all the recipients access...job done...back on track please.

ATM the trees are not quite working. Some talents cannot be learned without the server throwing a hissy fit. Well, thats how it was last night, hopefully they have fixed it.

One thing I have noticed about the difference between Alpha and Beta is the speed of the fixes and patches. Beta is a lot faster. Not to mention that the blue responces are much faster too.

Time to transfer my account out and create a new battle.net account then.

I'm really not a fan of the new talent tree's tho, they really do seem poo - well the DK one atleast. and only 41 points...

Not everyone Colin added has been banned.

If you have been told you are permanently banned from all future beta's then Colin does at least owe people an explanation to the people that did nothing wrong.

Exactly, if we're banned from all future testing that means no PTR access for when the inveitable pre cata patch goes out for testing. To me thats miles more annoying than losing beta access.

Oddly though my Starcraft 2 beta still works so they haven't killed everything

Ok, so I'm thinking about going back to WoW, the last time I played was September 2008, so I've missed one whole expansion. I have a level 70 Hunter but I got bored with that character so I would want to roll a fresh character and get it to max level quite quickly, how long does the levelling process take these days? Would you recommend coming back or not? It was my first MMO, so it's usually a case of the rose-tinted glasses and then when I have gone back to it in the past I have realised it wasn't as 'great' as I had imagined and I usually get bored of it pretty quickly.

But this is the longest I have not played the game for, the other breaks were usually just a few months here and there, I'm thinking there could be some good stuff put into the game but then I always hear people complaining about the way they have made the game item dependant. So basically I'm asking in here whether you think it's worth me coming back to the game and to get some proper opinions.

The question would be, what was it about the game which bored you before? Followed quickly by has that thing actually changed? If it hasnt, then its probably not worth you coming back as you will only end up feeling the same way towards the game, if it has then maybe it is worth coming back.

One thing is for sure, there will be a lot of people coming back for the expansion and I fully expect almost every gaming forum on the internet to be yabbering quite heavily about WoW and Catacylsm by the end of this year, which will serve to make even more people come back as they wont want to feel "left out".

It's going to sound ridiculous, but I just get bored with the levelling process. I always reach a point where I just feel like I can't be bothered and usually end up stopping. For me, I just want to get to end game as soon as possible, I find levelling tedious/boring in any and all MMO's, not just WoW. I know people say that levelling is all part of the fun, but I just prefer to reach end game as soon as possible, for the raids and such.

I do like playing MMO's, it's just I prefer the end game content as opposed to the actual levelling process.

Maybe you could buy an account with an already maxxed out character on it ready for Cataclysm so that you can just start all maxxed out straight away, saves yourself the trouble and gets you straight to the part you like

If you get bored with levelling then there's no point to going back. Unless you think repeating the same dungeon over and over again is more interesting than actually levelling up your character.

It takes about 4/5 days (/played) to get leveled to 80, just set up a quest addon that shows you where to go, you'll get it done in no time.

This is never a good idea, and is against all Blizzard T&C's.

Worst idea ever, especially in his case.

OP, don't do that.

I don't know many people that enjoy leveling, I hate it too - but just think of it as something temp, once you reach 80 there is no more to it...

Can have mine for £80 :D

Now i have to work i'm really not looking forward to release. Going to need to take some holiday and make sure i know where the hell i'm going if i'm going to lvl in any sort sensible time. Hopefully any guild i join wont say you must be 85 and in full hc epix by 7 days after release

Oh I know its against their T&Cs, then again so is botting, sharing accounts, buying gold and so on, yet we often discuss those here. In fact I recall a thread not long ago on here about sharing an account.

Lets face it, if someone doesnt like levelling and wants to play endgame only, then buying an account is the easiest way to achieve that. Blizzard frown on it but having said that my mate bought his account in 2007 and is still playing it now so them "catching" you is by no means a certainty and on the plus side for Blizzard it gives them 1 more paying subscription that they may of otherwise not got.
