** Official WoW Catalysm Alpha/Beta Thread **

i super psyched about it but im struggling to decide which classes to roll. Think im going :-

Worgen Feral Kittypup Druid
Worgen Hunter

Goblin Elemental Shaman
Goblin Warlock

as i cant decide what to be out of those four........so ill roll all four :p

Even though I play Horde I want a Worgen! I'm not a huge Goblin fan.

Undead all the way! :D

Is this happening? I can imagine the nerd rage if someone isn't fully purpled without around half a dozen instances and 1 raid of hitting 80 :p

A quick look at the loot lists indicate that heroics will no longer drop Epics. In terms of other sources it looks like there will be a few epic crafting recipes, raiding and Justice points.

I'd be pretty surprised if a genuine casual was decked out in purples on day one.

SO basically to get the epics you need to raid, ala tbc and vanilla?

I'm curious if pvp gear will be blue then and how it will tie in to this average ilvl they have built into the game now. Will you find the hard HC instances full of pvp geared people to get round the ilvl restriction.

Pretty much, they said on MMO champion a few days ago it goes like this.

Questing/Crafted Blues to gear up for Normal dungeons.
Normal dungeon / Crafted blues/epics to gear up for Heroic Dungeons
Heroic dungeon Blues / Crafted Epics to gear up for entry level normal raids.
Normal Raid Epics to gear up for hard mode raids.

Pretty much.

Online upgrade is live now, I don't think it was yesterday. :)

Mine is done, roll on the 7th December. :)

During the first Tier (Tier 11) of content, yes.

When Tier 12 is released what was previously available for Justice Points will be purchasable with Valor Points, which can be gained via Heroic 5-man bosses. However this will only be T-11 quality, and not fill every equipment slot (i.e. almost certainly not weapons). Tier 12 quality items will become available for Justice Points, but if you're just grinding out daily Heroics for the JPs you'll only get them at a very slow rate.

Oh, and there are measures in place to prevent you from stockpiling Valor ahead of a new Tier release.

Essentially, with every new Tier release you get a means of grinding up to the minimum gear requirement for that Tier in some (not all) slots.

It's the other way round for the type of points, Justice is the heroic points, Valor will be the raid points. Valor will always get you the top tier gear while Justice will be the previous tier/blues. Valor will only come from the daily heroic (i think) and raids.

IIRC whenever a new tier is released they will convert your valor points to justice so nobody gets a headstart on collecting the new gear.

There is also a weekly cap on valor points, i'm not sure what it is but it has been suggested its set in such a way that a 25man raider will cap easily with just his raids but a 10man raider will have to add to his income with daily heroics.

Most of it is measures to ensure players aren't given the idea they have to log on everyday and grind the same instances over and over like in wrath to feel like they aren't slowing down their gear progression. Should help lower the amount of players getting burned out on content which in my experience has been one of the bigger problems for raiding guilds in wrath.

dont care for downloads.

i just hope i get my collectors edition :(

Well technically you've already downloaded all of the content, the online upgrade basically just gives you the key. I'm looking forward to seeing the servers crash at midnight on the launch.

But I see the point of going for the collectors edition if you want that. :)

Heh yeah I remember WoW vanilla when getting epics felt like a real achievement (before starting MC even). I was a resto druid (allways have been really) I can remeber saving up really hard for Jewelled amulet of Cainwen (something like that) and skinning the damn dog to get the epic trousers. 1st two epics took some real effort. I think just the fact that it was Epic (different colour) set it aside and made it feel like it was worth more. Modern Wow I have few items of 277 gear from Citadel Hardmodes (I quit in March), Even though this is better than the other gear and respresents extra work it just doesn't feel as special as an epic did in the early days.

I think that is the one of the main issues that more hardcore players are not happy with the casualisation of wow, essentially it's an epeen issue. While I probably suffered from this a bit it was a different reason I am not happy. I used to love starting a new instance like AQ40, it would take months to see the end boss and the feel of finally killing it was amazing!! For hardcore guilds now it's a case of finishing the instance in normal mode in a week or two and then starting on hard modes, but for me this is dull you have seen all the bosses allready and it just doesn't have the same feel or excitement.

I would much rather spend 2 months on a instance just to get to the end boss and then a further month to kill it than to kill everything in a week and then just wait for hard modes to unlock.

That really is my only issue with the game, other than that it is much better in every way than vanilla, making instances available for more is a good thing but unfortunately the current design just doesn't work for me in terms of end game instances.
