I've just applied for a £5k loan. Everyones got to start sometime right?

Basically I've had enough of buying old and decrepit cars and want something that will last me many years. My car is needing a few things done to it and I don't think it will last a whole lot longer so have put it up for sale.

The car that I am going for is...*drum roll*

Toyota Celica GT4, preferably in white or black. Oooh yes.

Yeah, i've thought about this but not very much to be honest.

I hadn't planned on spending the whole £5k on the car itself but had intended on keeping say a grand for any repairs and maintenance.

I earn a £1k a month and live at home with only £25 a week rent and car insurance so I think i'm covered.

You only life once though that's my way of thinking.

Hell of an upgrade there Gaz! How much is that going to cost you on the insurance?

It's going to cost more to run/service than my Rover, but I think some people are still of the mentality that old performance car = BIG BILLS!

£1.3k a year for insurance, though I only have 1 years NCB and am 20 years old. Am 3 months into my 2nd year so won't have to put up with high insurance costs for a great deal longer.

Hopefully insurance premium should drop a fair bit more next year when I get 2 years NCB and am 21.

And those who don't realise this have their heads in the sand.

Your's is not a "performance car", its a rather quick version of a mundane car. A Celica has far more to actually go wrong, inflated prices for most component parts, and more expensive consumables.

Fair enough. But at least drive mine (or any modded one) before making such sweeping statements.

Yeah - but his cars just got that certain something - that makes it well, pretty cool!

Just to add...

I'm still yet to be accepted/declined yet so fingers crossed.

Some of you are probably thinking, hang on a minute didn't he want an MR2 turbo just a few days ago? Yes is the answer but I read somewhere that the GT4 has the same engine so have done a insurance quote on one and it came back about the same price to insure.

Looked around for some on PistonHeads and they are a little cheaper to buy plus they have 4wd. I was a little concerned about driving a RWD with the engine in the back and just don't trust myself so thought the GT4 would be a more "sensible" option.

EDIT: Please don't turn this into another Rover debate, had enough of that already. Andy, you have a nice car mate, peoples opinions on it are going to differ, so don't take it to heart with what other people have to say.

What sweeping statement? It is NOT a performance car, admittedly its very quick for what it is, and its certainly a lot of poke for your cash, but there was nothing I said that was a "generalisation".

I've wanted one of these myself.
Enjoy :)

Here's a few other things to whet your appetite, after all, there's plenty about for 5k that you might not have considered.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/164413.htm (Leon Cupra: loads of these about for this and less, can't seem to find one with the tidy bodykit though)

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/163884.htm (S14A: for drift0ring)

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/180399.htm (Pulsar: 340BHP forged engine. I guess this one is gonna disappear quick.)

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/177003.htm (Octavia VRS: 220BHP,sleeper, VAG, etc)

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/175128.htm (V70R: Quick sleeper, should be a nice cruiser too)

You won't, the pre-facelift cars were horribly dull looking, and the post-facelift ones will be out of budget. The Cupra R (or the TDi FR+ with the same kit) are the only real lookers anyway.

Hi Sock, Simon isn't it?

Can't get insured on the 200SX or the Pulsar. VRS is too expensive to insure, not keen on the Cupra really and the Volvo is toooo big for my liking.

I was (--------------) that close to buying a GT4

Plumped for an a3 quattro instead, not quite as quick but in over 2 years it hasnt needed any work (bar wear and tear)

I think what you are trying to say is Rover owners are very lucky in that they are able to pick up parts uber cheap because... they are cheap and they share parts with others in the R8 range.
I would disagree on the other point though; it clearly is a performance car... quicker than a Cupra R, out of the box.
