Oh dear, gone and done it...

Ok, done another quote for an Octavia VRs and it's come back the same as the MR2 and the GT4...hmmm

Seriously if you are wanting a more reliable car then the vRS is what you want compared to the GT4.

If you feel 180bhp isn't enough then you can get it remapped to 206-215bhp for £375 by Jabbasport. Or goto 212-230bhp with their custom remap for £475. Which in that really will surprise people who don't realise the performance the vRS has.

So it is down to how sensible you want to be really. But with a remap it will still shift well enough.

Done a quote on an Accord Type R too and strangly enough it's only £1300 p/a to insure! What the hell.

Can get insured on an Audi S4 too but not on an Impreza or Evo - strange stuff.

I still want a GT4 but it's proving difficult to find a standardish one in a good colour with the anti-lag and spraybar (WRC).

My mind isn't completely made up as you can tell so am open to more suggestions.

I'll vote for the VRS. It's the sensible choice but it's still a great drivers car.

Fiat Coupe? Not really in the same league as the Octavia for build quality etc., but then again they are a bit of a bargain at the moment, so you could have a bit of cash tucked away for fixing it.

Saab 9-5 HOT Aero? Quick, nice looks but a bit uninspiring and apparently vague handling. Might be worth a test drive.

ST200?

I want something that isn't boring to drive.

I drive all the time just for the hell of it so want a 'drivers' car. Fiat coupe doesn't do anything for me at all and a Mondy doesn't do anything for me either really though I do like them. :)

The little hole next to the bonnet vent, is I beleive for cooling the altenator! and its a vent not a scoop as its a liquid to air cooling system. The gt-fours always seem good for insurance for some reason.

They do have some wearable parts worth noting, the front suspension links, and rear diff mount generally will need replacing sooner or later on models in your price range, and any your looking at you need to check these things or budget for changing them.

you certainly do not want to consider antilag!. Playing around with gt-fours is a very expensive game, and unless you have thousands to waste on the car every year, then leave it alone and just enjoy it as it comes.

I've driven a octavia VRS and it was no where near a st205 in performance, not even close, maybe a remap would sort that though, but i do beleive it and its like will be a cheaper car to run in the long run, but i'd still take the st205 no doubt ;) .

Best advice, dont be blinkered into one car. Your doing the right thing considering other cars and listening to other people.

Remember, this is borrowed cash, so you want to get something that every morning you go to get in it, it works!

When you spend 1-2k on a car and it fails to start, you can shrug it off. When its double that you should be paying that extra to get rid of that doubt.

As much as i love my 1995 530, everytime i hear a noise, or feel something i start to think about the potiential repair bills! Not to mention the 16-18mpg!

No idea mate, that's insurance for you. Crap isn't it.

Anyone know why the GT4 has a little round intake thing on the bonnet next to the air scoop for the intercooler?

And what does TRD stand for? Toyota Race Designs? Vaguely remember it from Gran Turismo.

the little hole is to duct cold air into the cambelt bit, if a stone gets in there you're screwed :p

you after an ST205? at that price range they'll prob need their fig8's doing.

And its not an intercooler ;) its a chargecooler.

I get about 250-300 miles per £65 tank depending on how I drive, managed 350 miles once! :O

I was basically going to say what Fox said. If you need to get a loan out to buy it and your reasoning is something reliable that won't cost a fortune to run etc. then there isn't much worse than an old Jap turbo coupe.

ATR slightly more sensible.

Yeah I do want something that will be reliable, I don't mind forking out for maintenance and what not but on the other hand I want something fun. Something I will want to drive, I want to wake up in the morning wanting to drive to work. Sad I know but hey that's me.

The Accord Type-R is appealing more and more the more I think about it. :p

I went out in a friends Integra Type-R DC2 JDM which was incredibly nice, rather smooth which wasn't what I was expecting from it and incredibly revvy. The Accord isn't as revvy according to him (Honda nut or "spong" as he says lol). To quote him:

"Not quite as thrasy. More mature"

I'm prepared to put up with large fuel bills as I honestly don't mind spending at the fuel pumps...

Thanks for the input everybody, negative or positive it's much appreciated. :)

So you've applied for a loan before you even know what you want to buy?

Are you like a walking demonstration of how not to do cars or something? :p

ATR sounds like a good bet to me. Really cool car with an ultra-reliable VTEC engine.

The Octavia vRS is a nice car but just seems dull to me. The ATR on the other hand is a little different, a little quirky.

Celica GT4 is a serious enthusiasts car. If you're not one, it's only going to lead to heartache when things go awry.

Personally for £5k I'd be tempted towards a DC2 Integra.

I'm not 100% sure but I've got an idea of what I want. I'm not in that much of a rush to go out and get one. Sooner the better though mate.

I don't really want an Integra as it didn't really do much for me really, though there was three of us in the car so that hampered the experience somewhat.

It will if you drive one (properly). People pay good money for them for a reason. Compared to a tricked out 4wd turbo Celica it's going to have an infinitely better smiles:hassle ratio.

Fox, I'm only going to be paying the bank £600-odd in interest over 3 years so it's not all that bad.

Vila, Prelude does absolutely nothing for me mate. Have driven a friends 2.2 VTEC JDM and it was rather dull IMO. Sure it went quite well but just didn't feel fun at all!

Got my name on this. Do it do it :p

So you're gonna pay interest on money you are not using?

Thats a retarded viewpoint.

Whenever he gets the loan he's going to have to start paying it off, and regardless of when that is the repayments are going to be pretty much identic
al.

One could equally argue that the sooner he takes it out the sooner its paid off.

As for the cars, GT4 is a tad on the older side fro what i'd want, but if its what you really want there are worse (more unreliable) cars about (Fiat Coupé one which has been m entioned)

Enfield If you want the GT4 then get it :)

Its a sexy beast of a car andif you really have a thing for cars if something breaks then just replace it.
Its a Toyota so there are normaly more after market parts you can poke a stick at, just dont buy straight from Mr T(Toyota it self).
