Ok... might get console on way home today. Need advice.

Is that not OK?

NOOOOOO!!!! :p

Just joking, just think some of the stuff said is a bit wrong that's all.

IMO, you'll be happy with either console! So get either the xbox or the PS3 and you'll be happy. Just have a look at the the game coming out and the current games.

Enjoy!

Without bickering, Just wanted to point out, I don't own one. But I've been playing one since the Japanese launch. Including stealing it away from the actual owner for a good few months when he went back to japan. So I'm allowed an input :p

If both consoles have enough games you like, and everything else being equal..

If you have £300-£350, get a PS3 with games, you won't be disappointed

If you have £230-£250 get an Xbox 360 Pro with games, you won't be disappointed..

If you have £200 then get a Wii .... if you can get hold of one..

You do need to weigh up your own situation, if you need WiFi access then it's £40+ extra for the 360...

Personally, if you don't need WiFi, and it's about the games I'd get an Xbox 360, it's catalogue to date is superb.. and as with all these things reassess in 12-18 months..

Yeah definitley go for a 360 :)

By far the better console due to the games library and online system at the moment

Premium console with PGR4 for £250, with extra wireless controller costing £20.

So £300 or thereabout with one more game.

There was a combat flight sim in there, but for the life of me I have already forgotten the name. Was going to ask if anyone knew what it was like!

From not owning or playing any, then it should be the Xbox360.

Games like Project Gotham Racing 3 & 4, Forza Motorsport 2, The Darkness, Bioshock, Dead Rising, Test Drive Unlimited, Gears of War, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1 & 2, Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4, Assassins Creed, Tomb Raider: Legend, Burnout Revenge, Burnout Paradise, Halo 3, Condemned, The Orange Box, Oblivion and many more.

I'd really recommend Dead Rising, Bioshock, The Darkness, Call of Duty 4 and Project Gotham Racing 4 as 5 to get on with.

I have both and am flat out on the 360. My ps3 has hardly been used apart from the great media extender and blu-ray movies

games on both formats I pick the 360 format because of gamer points :)

In saying that the games am most looking forward to is on the PS3 this year

Oo and i have not played my wii since last xmas

Bioshock/CoD4 are out on PC and the OP has a PC that will play them with easy. The other games aren't must buys imo.

Right now the Xbox360 is a better buy, but going forward the PS3 will probably be the 1 to have. It's outselling the Xbox so it will be getting more and more support. TBH it's a very poor "console race" atm, neither have many must haves.

The Wii is quiet different, but also lacks support. If you like nintendo games then its a no brainer, but as you havent tried a console before you don't know. You would also be able to download a lot of old classics from the last ~20 years on Nintendo machines for the Wii but retro gamings isnt for everyone.

Have decided will go with 360. Just hope I find I enjoy gaming on console and its not a waste (hence why considered much cheaper PS2).

Will get PGR4 with it, and might get Aces Combat 6. Just need to find a fighting game, but the blockbuster did not seem to have many besides WWE rubbish :(

Asked earlier, but question may have gotten missed - are the fighting games like virtua fighter available to buy online, and how much do they cost, more or less?

no they aren't. Both DOA4 and Virtua Fighter 3 are full retail, but should be available quite cheap by now. There may be some live arcade fighting games but none are springing to mind.
