Ok... might get console on way home today. Need advice.

Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting Edition (I think its this one)
Ultimate Mortal Kombat

Super Street Fighter 2 HD on the way.

Getting really excited about this now :)

Its expensive, but at least its something the other half and I can enjoy together rather than sitting on our own pc's in different rooms!

360, it has the best and most plentiful games and the best online system.
Well actually, since he's specified the PS2 as a possibility, that is the console with the best game library.

And if the OP has never had a Gamecube, then I'd say the Wii holds a more varied lineup than the 360 for him too.

EDIT: Oh, just seen you want multiplayer games. Either get a 360 for its collection of co-op games, or a Wii for its sheer ton of awesome multiplayer (mainly Gamecube admittedly) titles.

Sorry, but can someone answer my earlier question to Ripper where I asked if Ultimate Mortal Kombat was available on live?

Its just that the fighting games is one of the major reasons I want a console...

Thanks....

But I just thought of something... I would need to be a live subscriber to get access to it right? So I would have to spend £40, just to be able to buy it through live?

Cool :)

Feel like such a noob :)

You guys have been most helpful! Many thanks!

I will report back tomorrow with how I am getting on with console gaming :)

Dont waste your money on a PS3, or an Xbox360 if youve got a good gaming PC. Get yourself a Wii for "A bit of something different" ;) i vowed some years ago id never buy another games console, as they always get left gathering dust in a corner due to my PC being used instead. My girlfriend influenced the decision to get a Wii ( we went halves on the cost) and i absolutely love it :D

Do you have a HDTV?

If not get a PS2 and play some of the absolutely fantastic back catalogue of games to see how you like it and get on with it, then if you like it, upgrade to a PS3/360 and HDTV when you have the cash.

my 2p

No ones mentioned it yet but get Guitar Hero III (with the wireless guitar.) It's fantastic fun and you'll find both you and the mrs having a blast.

That has very much been a consideration of mine. But I think I will go with the 360. No, I don't have an HDTV, but thats not to say I won't have one in the near future.

If I get bored with it, or find that consoles are not my thing will just re-sell it on Ebay.

The PC will more than likely remain my main platform for games, however I just think it would be nice to just lie on the sofa and play, or to be able to play against the other half from time to time.

I don't think consoles will ever be as valuable to me as my pc for gaming, but I do think consoles have their place, and could potentially be a lot of fun :)

Before splashing all your cash on games, there are 100+ demos from what I remember and loads of live arcade game trails so download and try before you buy :)

Hope you enjoy it mate, you can't really go wrong with either the 360 or PS3 - Just try to stay out of the fanboy wars that happen quite a lot on here. I loved my 360, and now love my PS3, Enjoy!
